Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The most valuable feature is that it is journal-based and you don't have to replicate a lot of data.""RecoverPoint replicates workloads fast.""It is a point-in-time restore, which is quite handy.""The workload can be moved directly if the disaster site is the main site.""One of the standout features of Dell RecoverPoint for Virtual Machines is its real-time data protection capability.""The most valuable features are the data center recovery administration and the time of recovery.""The installation is straightforward if the version you have is compatible with your infrastructure.""Continuous replication with lower RTO and RPO is the most innovative feature. Its tight integration with VMware for VMware VMs is also valuable."

"One thing I have noticed is that it is very simple to move the data where we need to move it, delete it, or archive it if we need to archive it to StorageGRID.""The solution’s Snapshot copies and thin clones in terms of operational recovery are good. Snapshot copies are pretty much the write-in time data backups. Obviously, critical data is snapshotted a lot more frequently, and even clients and end users find it easier to restore whatever they need if it's file-based, statical, etc.""Its features help us to have a backup of our volumes using the native technology of NetApp ONTAP. That way, we don't have to invest in other solutions for our backup requirement. Also, it helps us to replicate the data to another geographic location so that helps us to save on the costs of backup products.""With NetApp, you can integrate malware scanning or malware protection. This is something valuable that is not offered in SaaS solutions typically.""Another feature which gets a lot of attention in our environment is the File Services Solutions in the cloud, because it's a completely, fully-managed service. We don't have to take care of any updates, upgrades, or configurations.""For us, the value comes from the solution's flexibility, speed, and hopefully cost savings in the long term.""NetApp's XCP Migration Tool... was pretty awesome. It replicated the data faster than any other tool that I've seen. That was a big help.""The most valuable feature of this solution is that it makes our data readily available and we don't have to go through a lot of trouble to access it."

Cons
"The solution is not easy to use. It's actually quite hard. If it could be simplified it might be better for the end user.""I would like to have the HTML 5 interface working because it is currently not functioning with the VMware environment.""It would be good to have a critical application on the customer side.""The configuration process seems a bit challenging, and the installation takes a bit longer than expected.""It can have better integration. It would be good if, in addition to VMware VM, it can also support other hypervisors. I also want to see support for Oracle databases. As of now, it supports only SQL and Exchange. It would be good to also support other databases.""It should have features for recovering a group of virtual machines and full-scale security. For recovering all the VMs at once, they don't have a GUI option, and we have to use the command line.""I would like to see integration with EMC NetWorker in the next release.""In the next release of this software, I would like to see options that help to decrease the bandwidth required, such as compressing the data."

"The solution is not stable when using single nodes. This is a problem. NetApp should work on this solution to make it more stable with HA nodes and resolve this issue.""NetApp CVO needs to have more exposure and mature further before it will have greater acceptance.""One difficulty is that it has no SAP HANA certification. The asset performance restrictions create challenges with the infrastructure underneath: The disks and stuff like that often have lower latencies than SAP HANA itself has to have.""Their support and development teams can collaborate better to resolve an issue.""Multipathing for iSCSI LUNs is difficult to deal with from the client-side and I'd love to see a single entry point that can be moved around within the cluster to simplify the client configuration.""Something we would like to see is the ability to better manage the setup and tie it to our configuration management database. We manage our whole IT infrastructure out of that database.""If they could include clustering together multiple physical Cloud Volumes ONTAP devices as an option, that could be helpful.""Not a perfect ten because it's not very efficient with upgrades and management."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "This is not a very cheap solution and compared to others, it is expensive."
  • "This is an expensive product."
  • "Pricing-wise, it is pretty much fair for any customer who only has a VMware environment. Licensing is based on the number of VMs that you want to protect at any given point in time. Licensing is not based on size."
  • "There is a license required for this solution and the pricing depends on how many virtual machines you have."
  • "It was a part of a backup solution. So, it was free for us."

  • "Purchasing through the AWS Marketplace was good, but it was a test system, not a real purchase."
  • "We purchased the product directly from NetApp."
  • "The deal with the seller was acceptable; the pricing is reasonable."
  • "The AWS consumer-based pricing model makes it easy for developers to use their credit cards to spin up virtual servers immediately."
  • "Compared to other storage vendors, NetApp, is not always able to compete with their pricing. Yet, we acknowledge the ease of use ONTAP brings with the AWS integration."
  • "They allow a special price if you are working closely with them. Since we have a lot of NetApp systems, we got some kind of discount. That's something they do for other customers, not just for us. The price was fair. In addition to the licensing fees, you're paying Amazon for your usage..."
  • "The standard pricing is online. Pricing depends. If you're using the PayGo model, then it's just the normal costs on the Microsoft page. If you're using Bring Your Own License, which is what we're doing, then you get with your sales contact at NetApp and start figuring out what price is the best, in the end, for your company."
  • "In addition to the standard licensing fees, there are fees for Azure, the VMs themselves and for data transfer."
