Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The firewall and site-blocking features are valuable.""It does a little bit better than some of the other products health-wise and updates-wise. It is really clear that a firewall is getting the signature updates in this timeframe. In some of the other products, usually, you have to go a couple of screens in to see that, but not so much in this product.""From a scalability perspective, I found the solution to be completely fine...The solution's technical support is absolutely fine.""The most valuable feature of this solution is application control.""The role-based access controls give us granular control over what features to present to a customer, and the integration into FortiAnalyzer is the most valuable feature.""The documentation has been satisfactory.""I like the tool's controller facility.""The customer likes it for the graphs, the dynamics and the reporting functionality it offers."

"The most valuable features for us are some of the trending and analysis on workloads. It doesn't just look to see if something is maximized at 100%. It figures out what the normal is for the application, so it's not just if something is maxed out and causing a problem, but if something is higher than normal or running outside of its normal range. This helps us to identify something that other products might not necessarily note as an issue.""It has helped us reduce the time it takes to troubleshoot issues.""There are many valuable features. The top feature is historical trending analysis and future workload predictions. There's a workload forecaster/predictor model in there and it's very helpful for capacity planning.""It does exactly what I program it to do at this point, which is to tell me if I've got machines running out of disk space or over-utilizing CPU or memory. The monitoring component of it is the most valuable feature.""The most valuable features are the health tree and the alerts that tell us what's going on from a glance at the dashboard. As far as showing us where the problems are, what's useful is that it gives us suggested solutions to fix them, so that's helpful.""The most valuable feature would be the capacity planning. I can see where we're at as far as usage on our data stores, our CPU and memory. It lets us know where we need to grow.""This solution is most definitely scalable. We've already gone back to the drawing board and specifically designed it from the ground up, to be scalable with the size of our environment moving forward.""The most valuable feature is the insight into how our infrastructure is actually working and the kind of performance that when users either say there is an issue, it gives some insight into finding out what's going wrong with it. I think its cause we have it mainly based on our production units."

Cons
"Fingerprint access security would improve this solution.""The product must have in-built SD-WAN connectivity.""There can be defects in Fortinet FortiPortal when functioning at high temperatures.""Fortinet FortiPortal could improve by providing a learning portal and better security.""If you are a very small company or a person on your own, it's harder to get any response from technical support.""I find their logging a little bit trickier to manage. The logging of events is broken up into a lot of different categories. Instead of breaking up my logs into several different places, I personally like to have all the events in one spot and then filter them down. In particular, I find that troubleshooting on Fortinet takes a little bit longer just because of those functional breakups in the logs.""So if it's more than a thousand, there could be some scalability issues. It becomes more complex as you go.""It's useful for us but if it had more educational reporting, it would good. It's not necessarily lacking but it's an area that could get better."

More Fortinet FortiPortal Cons →

"The database services in the tool as backup services are friendly and can be deployed in the release to production. However, in the new features, I would like to include more online documentation that can help service generate early alerts.""I would like to see multi-cloud support. It would be nice to see analytics not only on-prem but on VMWare Cloud on AWS. I think that's in the roadmap.""It's getting better from what it used to be but it still has a pretty steep learning curve. It's not super-intuitive when you first log into it. To find a lot of the information you need, you have to dig through multiple categories, subcategories, panes, and dashboards and widgets. They've been making it better by presenting some of the most commonly used ones more in the forefront. But some of the more advanced stuff is still pretty difficult to find.""If this tool can integrate with other products, for example, those that monitor the network devices or any other storage devices, it will be very beneficial.""If I could integrate with vCenter with vROps, then I could execute more things by managing vSphere from within vROps. That would be great.""Lately, the chargeback site has improved, but it could be simpler. You need to create your own dashboards. It should be simple to get a virtual machine and break down the compute and storage costs.""In the past, when we have raised priority one tickets and they have sent us level one engineers. This wasted time because the L1 was only able to perform the troubleshooting steps that we had already completed.""It's a very complex product. It has gotten better over the years, but they still have some work to do. It still requires a lot of time, and some training, to get accustomed to it."
