Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"I like GitLab from the CI/CD perspective. It is much easier to set up CI/CD and then integrate with other tools.""GitLab is a solution for source code management, container registry, pipelines, testing, and deployment.""The SaaS setup is impressive, and it has DAST solutioning.""The most valuable features of GitLab are the review, patch repo, and plans are in YAML.""The stability is good.""It is very useful for reviews. We are using branch merging operations and full reset operations. It is also very useful for merging our code and tracking another branch. The graph diagrams of Git are very useful. Its interface is straightforward and not too complex for us.""The tool helps to integrate CI/CD pipeline deployments. It is very easy to learn. Its security model is good.""The most valuable functionality of GitLab, for me, is the DevOps. Besides the normal source control based on Git, I find the Auto DevOps features most important in the solution."

"The platform has some amazing features and the integration option makes it very simple to plug with any of our favorite tools.""Testing against multiple run times, versions, and environments is a plus point with the additional pipelines making it more interesting to see what is happening across your development process in a single pane of glass."

Cons
"Some of the scripts that we encountered in GitLab were not fully functional and threw up errors.""GitLab doesn't have AWS integration. It would be better to have integration with other container management environments beyond Kubernetes. It has very good integration with Kubernetes, but it doesn't have good integration with, for example, AWS, ETS, etc.""GitLab would be improved with the addition of templates for deployment on local PCs.""We would like to generate document pages from the sources.""Even if I say I want some improvement, they will say it is already planned in the first quarter, second quarter, or third quarter. That said, most everything is quite improved already, and they're improving even further still.""I would like configuration of a YML file to be done via UI rather than a code file.""As GitLab is not perfect, what needs improvement in the solution is the Wiki feature of the groups or the repertories because currently, it's not searchable by default. You'll need an indexing service such as Elasticsearch to make it searchable, and that requires too much work, so for me, it's the main feature that should be improved in GitLab. In the next version of the solution, from the top of my head, the documentation could be improved. Besides the Wiki, it would be good if there's documentation that would be automatically generated based on the code repository. In other words, there should be some tutorials from GitLab for developers in the next release.""We'd always like to see better pricing on the product."

  • "The price is okay."
  • "It seems reasonable. Our IT team manages the licenses."
  • "Its price is fine. It is on the cheaper side and not expensive. You have to pay additionally for GitLab CI/CD minutes. Initially, we used the free version. When we ran out of GitLab minutes, we migrated to the paid version."
  • "It is very expensive. We can't bear it now, and we have to find another solution. We have a yearly subscription in which we can increase the number of licenses, but we have to pay at the end of the year."
  • "I don't mind the price because I use the free version."
  • "We are using its free version, and we are evaluating its Premium version. Its Ultimate version is very expensive."
