Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"Google's technical support is very good.""The features that I have found most valuable are its graphs - if I need any statistics, in Kubernetes or Kong level or VPN level, I can quickly get the reports.""I like the monitoring feature.""The most valuable feature is the multi-cloud integration, where there is support for both GCP and AWS.""We find the solution to be stable.""It's easy to use.""The cloud login enables us to get our logs from the different platforms that we currently use.""Our company has a corporate account for Google Cloud and so our systems and clusters integrate really well."

"I like the fact that we do not have to maintain all the cloud infrastructure. That is probably the main thing about the Splunk Cloud Platform.""The log search capabilities are very good.""The Splunk search is powerful compared to similar solutions. We get millions of data points within seconds.""The initial setup was straightforward.""The most valuable feature of Splunk Cloud Platform is its flexibility and readiness because it's already prebuilt, and everything is click-to-go.""This is a complete log reporting tool.""Dashboards and alerting are the most valuable features. The dashboards let us see how the system looks in terms of anomalies, and the alerts trigger us to go and look at what possible problems are happening.""Its monitoring is completely automated."

Cons
"It could be even more automated.""It could be more stable.""If I want to track any round-trip or breakdowns of my response times, I'm not able to get it. My request goes through various levels of the Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and comes back to my client machine. Suppose that my request has taken 10 seconds overall, so if I want to break it down, to see where the delay is happening within my architecture, I am not able to find that out using Stackdriver.""While we are satisfied with the overall performance, in certain cases we must add additional metrics and additional tools like Grafana and Dynatrace.""The logging functionality could be better.""The product provides minimal metrics that are insufficient.""Lacking sufficient operations documentation.""This solution could be improved if it offered the ability to analyze charts, such as a solution like Kibana."

More Google Cloud's operations suite (formerly Stackdriver) Cons →

"The only thing I would say is an issue is the cost. It matches other products. The costs can be justified for the value that we gain. The entire threat analysis stack should come in a bundle. If the cost was matchable with other products I think Splunk would pick up in the market.""The security connection should have a seamless integration. Other than that, the way we are using it, so far, it seems quite good.""The training models can only be accessed for 30 days, even if it is paid training.""Some of the implementation is challenging. They're not very proxy-aware.""Customization could be simplified.""There can be more modules and more integration with other areas in the cloud and on-prem. I am not sure whether it includes network devices and things like that.""The Splunk interface is on-premises, so we have limited access to Splunk Cloud. Splunk support is not so good on Splunk Cloud. The Splunk side of the Splunk Cloud should also be more customizable. Integrating Splunk UBA, Splunk Phantom, and Splunk Cloud is also a bit difficult.""From an enterprise standpoint, we are more limited in terms of what data we can export and how we can present it."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "The cost of using Stackdriver depends on usage."
  • "The cost could be lower."
  • "We have a basic standard license without any additional costs."
  • More Google Cloud's operations suite (formerly Stackdriver) Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "The licensing is based on the amount of data that we send to the cloud on a daily basis."
  • "The price is something that people complain about."
  • "The licensing costs depend on the state of your environment and the fees are paid on a monthly basis."
  • "The pricing model makes this an expensive solution."
  • "There are additional features that you would need to purchase depending on your use case."
  • "The cost of using Splunk Cloud Platform is high, but the value it provides is worth the investment."
  • "I am familiar with the pricing and licensing model a little bit. I am not sure about the particulars of the actual price that we have, but I do like the idea of going towards a more CPU-based approach rather than the ingest approach because it allows us the ability to ingest more data if we need it."
  • "It is a touchy subject because we are locked into it. That goes back to the rehydrating data. We cannot have the retention that we want to store for legal and compliance purposes because that is seven years' worth of data for some of the indexes, so we ship them off into S3 buckets and install them there, at which point they are invisible to Splunk, so we have to rehydrate them, but we cannot rehydrate those pockets into Splunk Cloud. We have to rehydrate them into a self-hosted version of Splunk, which can take days to set up and get going. I would not call Splunk's licensing and pricing predatory, but they have made it very difficult to maintain the independence of your own data."

    Overview

    Real-time log management and analysis

Cloud Logging is a fully managed service that performs at scale and can ingest application and platform log data, as well as custom log data from GKE environments, VMs, and other services inside and outside of Google Cloud. Get advanced performance, troubleshooting, security, and business insights with Log Analytics, integrating the power of BigQuery into Cloud Logging.

    Built-in metrics observability at scale

Cloud Monitoring provides visibility into the performance, uptime, and overall health of cloud-powered applications. Collect metrics, events, and metadata from Google Cloud services, hosted uptime probes, application instrumentation, and a variety of common application components. Visualize this data on charts and dashboards and create alerts so you are notified when metrics are outside of expected ranges.

Stand-alone managed service for running and scaling Prometheus

Managed Service for Prometheus is a fully managed Prometheus-compatible monitoring solution, built on top of the same globally scalable data store as Cloud Monitoring. Keep your existing visualization, analysis, and alerting services, as this data can be queried with PromQL or Cloud Monitoring.

Monitor and improve your application's performance

Application Performance Management (APM) combines the monitoring and troubleshooting capabilities of Cloud Logging and Cloud Monitoring with Cloud Trace and Cloud Profiler to help you reduce latency and cost so you can run more efficient applications.

Splunk Cloud is the industry’s only enterprise-ready cloud service for machine data, offering a 100% uptime SLA and standard plans from 5GB/day to 5TB/day. Watch this video to find out how you can accelerate time-to-value and stay focused on your core business using Splunk Cloud.
