We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The most important features are logical and physical models that we can compare and develop. Also, the Data Dictionary can be created out of your studio. Finally, database schemas help understand the logic that's behind the scene, behind the SQL tables. Especially when there are a lot of them, the schemas help everyone understand the business processes.""It's easy to model and has a user-friendly interface. I like the team portal because, once we upload, the entire team can see the model.""One of the valuable features is inheritance when joining tables. When setting up RI and domains and rules, ER/Studio does a lot of the grunt, boilerplate code that would otherwise have to be hand-coded.""It's much easier to develop the database structure and change it on the fly, rather than doing it manually in SQL Server itself. That saves time.""Developing new dimensional models; for the data we're hosting, dimensional modeling is more useful.""The interface is really simple to use and it allows me to pick and choose which tables I want to reverse engineer.""The data modeling module is important to me because I am a database developer and designer... It's very fast, reliable, up-to-date, so easy to use, smooth.""When validating the model, the ability to provide sub-models to developers, and generate a physical model from the logical, makes it easier to review a logical model with stakeholders."

"Interfaces well with downstream systems of data.""The ability to import data and generate reports from it. That's where its power lies.""One of the product's most valuable features is its ability to configure hardware devices.""Ease of use is the most valuable feature. From an enterprise architecture perspective, it's not too cumbersome with too many functionalities, yet it has a lot of attributes for the content it covers.""The solution has a very useful assessment tool that automatically populates from input data to produce a detailed analysis of customer's environments.""LeanIX has good usability and stability. This SaaS is intuitive, easy to use, and comes with a nice reporting feature.""The most valuable feature would be application portfolio management, which is where they came from, but over time, they have got artificial intelligence. They built up a very good repository. If I identify a system by name, from historical information, oftentimes, they can tell me that this is deployed with this number of CPUs and they can give me a really good profile of the application for me to put it into a change management database with very little effort.""The usability is very high. It almost looks like a Facebook for Enterprise architecture, it's pretty nice. It's HTML5 based. The repository is very easy. It has 10 different ways of sorting the objects you have in your architecture repository. Maintaining new data or to add data to your repository is very easy."

Cons
"The only thing I had an issue with was licensing, and the support was very good.""The model diagram because very clumsy when you save it on the team server and the models are very big.""The screens are a bit outdated. They could use a new look and feel.""What I would like to see improved is the reliability of the releases, releases that are a little less buggy.""I would like to see better documentation/help for the Data Architect tool. Creation of tutorials would be nice, as there are some features which are not as clearly defined as they should be.""We would always like to see Repository performance improve, checking in and checking out.""Sometimes our version is a little unstable. But I think this problem occurs because our version is old.""One limitation I have found in ER/Studio is that when you want to make some changes to the table definitions, you have to go item by item. You cannot do it globally. Another issue concerns defining the foreign keys between the different tables. It is a little more tedious in the ER/Studio than in ERrwin. With ERwin it is direct."

"They could include a combination of LeanIX and some modeling extensions.""The solution’s API integration needs to improve. I would like to see a digital screen watch feature also in the solution.""It's hard to predict the pricing of the system.""Report generation could be more detailed. There are some shortcomings when creating reports. We can't create tag-based reports or go beyond basic technical reports.""What would make LeanIX better is more variety in terms of reporting, and more flexibility with its data importing feature.""The solution needs to incorporate a data patch tool that moves within and irons data.""Not a ten because you always have that gap between complexity and easy to use. And the more complex the tool becomes, the more difficult it is to get the usability.""They're probably positioned pretty well. I hope that they would not focus that much on the business architecture, and they would focus more on the overall cloud strategy and how we can leverage multi-cloud and transition back and forth from other cloud providers. With a lot of current vendors, you get locked in with one cloud, and then you try to migrate to someone else, and it becomes very problematic. What they need to do is to look at the overall data strategy, and they probably need to amplify their data strategy, especially around multi-cloud."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "The product is pricey."
  • "The process of licensing could be much simpler, from our experience."
  • "I'm a firm believer that all software is overpriced these days but, comparatively speaking, I think ER/Studio is worth the money."
  • "I feel the product's pricing is a good value."
  • "Pricing is on point, but do your due diligence - not every developer needs the tool."
  • "As an individual user, the renewal is a little costly."
  • "Pricing is expensive and on the higher-end."
  • "At my previous company using ER/Studio, a database compare took four hours before using the product and 15 minutes after using the product."

  • "As the tool is cloud-based, its cost is more affordable."
  • "The solution's pricing is based on a licensing model that is competitive and in line with other products."
  • "There is a sweet spot of where they need to be on pricing right now. They could go up a little bit in pricing, but it has to do with the cost savings, and it has to do with the practitioners using it. I use it where I get cost savings and I can justify it, but they probably have the ability to flex a 10% up channel on their sales on that. So, they could increase their settle price, not their offering price, when they sell. They can probably hold that up a little bit higher than it is because there are cost savings that we can drive from it."
  • "The tool needs to include more flexible licensing options. We do not use the tool all the time. So pricing should be considered only when we use the tool."
  • "I would rate the pricing a one out of ten, where one is cheap, and ten is expensive."
  • "The pricing is very good. We definitely get good value for the money."
