We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"I like the ease of customization from an admin perspective. I'm really excited about some of the things that are coming in version 10.0.3 as far as what admins are able to do.""I like the automated calculations, especially on the resource side. When project managers enter their resource requirements into their staffing profiles, they are automatically translated into labor forecast calculations. PPM automates a significant portion of the forecast calculations. Timesheets are also built-in. We automatically process time sheets and bill them accordingly.""Overall, they have a very strong workflow management capability. That's a very strong feature because then you can model any process easily. Whether it is a demand management process, a pipeline management process, or your project delivery methodology, it is much easier because of their workflow management capability.""The data provided by PPM is trusted and is available almost immediately; without trusted data there is very less scope of any tool to be successful.""The portfolio management and the resource management are the key features.""There are so many different pieces of functionality, and we use almost every single piece from deployment to demand, project, resource, and time management.""Micro Focus Project and Portfolio Management (PPM) has a very strong workflow engine.""Scenario comparison is the feature most valuable to us and the reason why we decided to choose HPE PPM over other portfolio management products."

"We have a variety of different modules, but it is mainly used for costs, risks, and resources.""Overall, our company has all disintegrated systems, and with Planisware, we are getting a very integrated view of my portfolio reporting, cost and load, and everything else.""The area that could benefit from improvement in this Planisware is the project management tool. I have previously used Project Server, which is a Microsoft solution, and I found it to be more user-friendly as it included a client solution. In contrast, with this solution, the only option available is the online version, making it difficult to create activities, milestones, and other necessary components. This is in comparison to Planisware, which offers a more comprehensive solution.""It stands out by automating the intricate mechanics of project execution, eliminating the need for highly technical individuals to manage and reconfigure models.""There are two things in particular that I enjoy. The first is the portfolio planning section. Another advantage is that it is highly customizable.""The solution is performance-oriented and easily customized accordingly to many areas, such as performance KPI."

Cons
"There are some limitations when it comes to attaching receipts. For example, if we are going to buy some non-labor-related assets such as hardware, we are not able to attach the receipts in the Financial Management module in version 9.41.""We had a couple of issues with stability or performance degradation about a year ago, around the time of the initial rollout. Since then, we've only had two unexpected outages that were quickly resolved.""I would also like to see improvement in PPM's reporting and alerts. PPM has reporting capabilities, including HTML reports and portlets. But a majority of clients will build their own reporting platforms, or they will use external reporting platforms like Tableau and QlikView.""I was not involved in the initial setup. I know that the project involved a lot of consulting that took a long time.""Micro Focus PPM should be less dependent on coding. It could also benefit from some updates to the software architecture. These have been on the roadmap for years now, but they haven't been released.""They can make its UI better. Currently, the UI is a bit clunky.""The user interface is very, very old and is missing some functions, such as, for example, re-do, follow, and share functions. The UI is not good.""Currently, HPE PPM does not allow “Project” approval, but only simple “Demand Request” approval (mobility)."

"The area that could benefit from improvement in this Planisware is the project management tool. I have previously used Project Server, which is a Microsoft solution, and I found it to be more user-friendly as it included a client solution. In contrast, with this solution, the only option available is the online version, making it difficult to create activities, milestones, and other necessary components. This is in comparison to Planisware, which offers a more comprehensive solution.""The solution's user experience and user interface need improvement because they are not that great and intuitive.""Its stability should be improved. Its stability is the main issue, but we sometimes also have issues with calculations.""The learning curve is steep and there could be more avenues for opening up learning materials to a broader audience, enabling individuals to gain practical experience with the tool.""More integration is needed with other kinds of products for better collaboration.""They do not have anything that can assist customers with multi-year roadmap planning."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "Support and license management are two hurdles for us. Every time we purchase new licenses, it has taken us half a year to implement those."
  • "It is SaaS without a base fee."
  • "HPE PPM SaaS model is comprehensive, however, the base fee component has customer resistance to its recurring setup,"
  • "Now, we also received an increase in the support license prices, without any advanced notice. At this point, switching to unify all our licensing under HPE and customer support has been poor."
  • "We have an annual license, and it is fairly priced in comparison to that of other solutions."
  • "A large organization will find Micro Focus PPM affordable, but it may be a bit costly for a small or medium-sized company. The license is based on the number of users."

  • "The solution could be less expensive and the cost of scaling is expensive too."
  • "There are training and certification costs."
  • "The solution is expensive and support is an extra cost. There are three license types to choose from, and we only pay for support and cloud services depending on our needs."
  • "It comes with a high cost."
