Pros
"It has a quick implementation and onboarding of users. It is flexible with reports and powerful.""ByDesign's best features are its speed, real-time data, and reporting.""The standard system is stable.""I find the tool’s every feature valuable.""When comparing SAP Business ByDesign to much larger ERP solutions, such as SAP ECC 6.0 or SAP S/4HANA, SAP Business ByDesign is more user-friendly and easier to implement.""The most valuable feature is the feature called Financial Closing Cockpit. This feature allows us to monitor our accounting and processing closely.""The most valuable feature of SAP Business ByDesign is it has a streamlined design.""I have found the consolidation of the business and group reports very useful. There is plenty of features and the manufacturing and finance aspect of the solution are strong."

"I like S/4HANA's automated features, readymade processes, and user interface. It supports various processes required by large international companies, like logistics, procurement, payments, sales, etc. All of these features were available in previous SAP solutions, but HANA has an updated user interface and improved integration with other systems. The readymade processes make HANA a good option if you're adopting a greenfield approach.""The most valuable aspect of SAP S/4HANA Cloud is its ease of deployment and the reduced hassles of infrastructure support.""It is stable and scalable. In the S4HANA plain version, they have new dashboards and things like that.""Since SAP S/4HANA Cloud is a SaaS application, it is already providing a lot of standard out-of-the-box features.""The guidance SAP offers for implementing the product is clear and the online resources are great.""The solution is versatile with various integrated tools such as connecting with finance modules, controlling parameters, and creating universal journals.""Speed has improved and getting analytical reports has been simplified.""SAP S4HANA Cloud is stable, and its computational power and speed have improved in later versions."

Cons
"Scalability is difficult.""The database needs to be more customizable.""The Arabic localization is neglected. It should have an Arabic interface. It lacks Arabic translation or support from right to left.""I would say budget controlling needs improvement. I mention this because it does not have all the functionalities that we need in terms of managing the budget.""The solution does not support customization for forms and reports. It's not flexible in case you need some enhancements in business processes.""SAP Business ByDesign is a very vast product, but it has to be a bit more centralized. All the models need to be more centralized for a better experience.""SAP Business ByDesign can improve the flexibility and user-friendliness of the reporting during the implementations. Customizing the reports inside the device requires a lot of knowledge and most of the time a developer level is needed. For example, if you want to have a more specific reporting layout.""I would like the tool’s interface to be better. Currently, we use a client application to access the product. I want that to be replaced with a web version. I would like to improve the tool’s internet availability. I also want the product’s setup to be easier."

More SAP Business ByDesign Cons →

"The pricing is high.""It is a complicated solution. So it should be easier to use.""One thing that could be better in SAP S/4HANA Cloud, especially in the public cloud, is how easily you can make changes.""Public cloud is single-tenant so there are limitations on what can be customized.""Analytics could be improved.""The user experience has some room for improvement. S/4HANA covers various scenarios based on the best business practices, but users complain about its user experience. It is not a user-friendly ERP solution. I rate the current UX seven out of 10.""The initial setup can be complex, depending on the environment.""We'd like to have more of a low-code platform."

  • "The pricing is competitive with other products at that level in that category."
  • "I feel the solution is expensive when it comes to what can be obtained with open source software."
  • "This is a pricey solution that best serves large enterprises. Be sure to ensure that your company's requirements need to be fulfilled by SAP. There are many other ERP's that are cheaper yet highly functional. However, it is still cheaper than some of the competition (i.e. Oracle, ESD, etc.)"
  • "I don't remember the specifics about the licensing, but it's scaled and modular. You pay for what you use. It's not a one-size-fits-all license. You have a license for every single module. It's similar to Oracle."
  • "The licensing process for SAP S/4HANA Cloud has worked well."
  • "It's very expensive."
  • "Pricing wise, SAP S4HANA Cloud is very expensive. The licensing cost can be 100,000 euros per year, depending on the number of users in your company."
  • "S/4HANA is an enterprise solution that many can't afford. You must invest a lot to get the most out of it. It isn't cheap. I rate the price seven out of 10."

The main difference is RISE is associated with S/4 Product Range on Cloud while By Design is modeled after SAP Business One also on Cloud.

So both are SaaS but the difference is in enterprise size and also application complexities. Also, RISE offers a bundle of pre-configured modules while By Design is similar to B1 with a lot more flexibility and high scalability. License wise both are per user on the cloud.
