We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The most valuable feature for UFT is the ability to test a desktop application.""Integrates well with other products.""One aspect that I like about Micro Focus UFT Developer is the ability to integrate it into a testing framework as a library.""The solution helps to accelerate software testing automation. It will help to reduce lead time and increase productivity and efficiency.""The most valuable feature of the solution is the number of plugins for object recognition. The predefined libraries allow us to automate tasks.""It is a product that can meet regulations of the banking industry.""The most valuable feature is the automation of test cases.""This tool is really good. We don't need to write any code, but it writes the code itself, only record and play. And it is simple, and it is not heavy; I mean, it doesn't have a large footprint, and it works well for us."

"My company has not had an issue with OpenText UFT One since we have been using it for the past three to four years.""The scalability of Micro Focus UFT One is good.""On a scale of one to ten, I would give OpenText UFT One a 10 because it is a reliable product, it works, it's as good or better than similar solutions especially because you get technical support from real people. Additionally, upgrades are always provided on a consistent basis.""The solution has good out-of-the-box protocols.""It offers a wide range of testing.""The high-level security, high standard and compatible SAP are great.""The most valuable feature for me is that it works on multiple platforms and technologies.""The ease of record and playback as well as descriptive programming are the most valuable features of UFT (QTP)."

"The most valuable feature is the option to pull changes from others or make local changes in your own change list."

Cons
"It would be improved by adding a drag-and-drop interface to help alleviate the coding.""The parallel execution of the tests needs improvement. When we are running tests in LeanFT, there are some limitations in terms of running the same tests simultaneously across different browsers. If I'm running a test, let's say to log in, I should be able to execute it through IE, through Microsoft Edge, through Chrome, through Mozilla, etc. This capability doesn't exist in LeanFT. Parallel execution of the test cases across different browsers need to be added.""The price of the solution could improve.""The support from Micro Focus needs a lot of improvement.""The tool could be a little easier.""UFT Developer is good, but it requires high-level development skills. Scripting is something that everybody should know to be able to work with this product. Currently, it is very development intensive, and you need to know various scripting languages. It would be good if the development effort could be cut short, and it can be scriptless like Tosca. It will help in more adoption because not every team has people with a software engineering background. If it is scriptless, the analysts who wear multiple hats and come from different backgrounds can also use it in a friendly manner. It is also quite expensive.""The support for .NET Framework and Visual Studio in Micro Focus UFT Developer is currently limited. At present, only Visual Studio 2019 is supported, despite the release of a newer version (2022). Similarly, the tool only supports up to .NET Framework version 4.3.8, while there have been six newer versions released. This is an area that could be improved upon, particularly in the Windows environment.""Easier connectivity and integration with SAP would be helpful."

"Jumping to functions is supported from any Action/BPT Component code, but not from inside a function library where the target function exists in another library file. Workaround: Select search entire project for the function.""The artificial intelligence functionality is applicable only on the web, and it should be expanded to cover non-web applications as well.""Technical support could be improved.""Sometimes UFT can take a while to open and sometimes will run slower than expected.""Perhaps more coverage as far as different languages go. I'm talking more about object identification.""The AI feature needs improvement. For banking applications, we input formatted text from documents, but the AI feature is recognizing three fields as one field, e.g., for a phone number, it puts all 10 digits in the international code or country code. Then, the script fails.""It doesn't support Telerik UI controls and we are currently looking for a patch for this.""It could work with more browsers other than Internet Explorer, and could better handle new things like Ext JS."

"It would be very helpful if a queue was implemented to handle, for example, 100 requests at the same time."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "It is quite expensive and is priced per seat or in concurrent (or floating) licenses over a period of months."
  • "The pricing is quite high compared to the competition."
  • "The cost of this solution is a little bit high and we are considering moving to another solution."
  • "When we compare in the market with other tools that have similar features, it may be a little bit extra, but the cost is ten times less."
  • "It is cheap, but if you take the enterprise license, it is valid for both software items."
  • "The licensing is very expensive, so often, we don't have enough VMs to run all of our tests."
  • "Its cost is a bit high. From the licensing perspective, I am using a concurrent license. It is not a seed license. It is something that I can use in our network. It can also be used by other users."
  • "The price of the solution could be lowered. The cost is approximately $25 per year for a subscription-based license."

  • "It took about five years to break even. UFT is costly."
  • "The licensing and pricing model is confusing."
  • "It's an expensive solution."
  • "For the price of five automation licenses, you simply would not be able to hire five manual testers for two years worth of 24/7 manual testing work on demand."
  • "The price is only $3,000. I don't know how many QA analysts you would have in any given company. Probably no more than five or 10. So if it's a large corporation, it can easily afford $15,000 to $25,000. I don't see that being an issue."
  • "The way the pricing model works is that you pay a whole boatload year one. Then, every year after, it is around half or less. Because instead of paying for the new product, you are just paying for the support and maintenance of it. That is probably one of the biggest things that I hear from most people, even at conferences, "Yeah, I would love to use UFT One, but we don't have a budget for it.""
  • "The pricing fee is good. If someone makes use of the solution once a day for a half hour then the fee will be more expensive. For continuous use and application of the solution to different use cases, the fee is average."
  • "The price is one aspect that could be improved."
