Quotes From Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros
"It is much more scalable and flexible than everything else in the market.""It's the leader in backup and archiving.""It's very stable.""It's a complete software that can protect all the main applications. Perhaps that's the feature I like most. The integration with the NetApp and other apps is also very nice.""We are using a KVM system in our cloud, and this solution works very well with it.""The solution provides us with a single platform to move, manage, and recover our data across on-premise locations. Some of the guys have been using it to move a virtual machine from VMware to the Microsoft solution, Hyper-V. They back it up and then they restore to the different virtual machine provider, and that works great.""The multi-tenancy is the most valuable feature for us because it's the only software that is fully multi-tenant and that has all the features we need to provide to all our tenants. It provides us with advanced features for MySQL and Oracle, among other platforms""The most valuable feature is sharing data sets like they're in a private cloud. We call it our "private cloud" because we can share anything that is inside our backup set with our colleagues or with other people, and yet, everything is still in Belgrade, in Serbia. It's not somewhere else on cloud servers. Everything is in our environment."

"The most valuable feature is its consistency.""It actually does its job very well and has interesting capabilities, but it has the most awful interface.""This is a full software so deployment time is very quick.""The web-based interface makes it easy to use.""One of the features I have found most valuable is the restore point - it gives us what we need at the time we need it. The important thing is that the backup for Acronis doesn't depend as much on the device.""The most valuable feature is that you can do a bare-metal restore even with dissimilar hardware.""It's always stable. It's very good, useful, and user-friendly.""The most valuable feature is the fact that it backs up my systems transparently in the background, and I'm not even conscious of it."

"This solution works well and has good integration with technologies such as VMware and Hyper-V.""The most valuable feature is the ability to back up IBM Power virtual servers.""The dashboard was good. I loved to see the maintenance dashboard every time I logged on. That was my first screen because it always gave me a reminder of how many days before my next renewal.""The most valuable feature is the user-friendly interface.""The interface, dashboard, and pricing are all perfect.""The solution is very scalable. Whenever we grew, it was just a matter of adding new licenses, so it's easy to grow.""I have not seen another backup solution as scalable as this one.""Veritas is simple and easy to deploy. In terms of the presentation and UI, they do their job well."

Cons
"Support for this product needs to be improved because I have seen a couple of cases where it is taking more than the required time to solve issues.""Its competitor, Veeam, includes backup and replication in the same product. I don't know if Commvault has it or not, but they should if they don't.""The back of virtual machines needs improvement. I know they're working on it. They're always doing new things but I think they still have a little bit more to do.""I think the one thing that could be improved is the customer experience. The interface should be more user friendly.""This solution can be complex and difficult to administer because it supports all of the many platforms, so it would help if they could simplify it.""Just to keep it running is time-consuming. There are five people on my team. Commvault was supposed to be one of the less time-consuming solutions, but in reality it takes 60 percent of our time just to keep it running, and that's not even fine-tuning it; that's just to keep it running.""There is room for improvement in its user interface and web console, called Command Center. They are improving it every year so if they continue in that direction, I think it will be a very reliable console.""They can always improve the interface design to make it easier. Sometimes, you need to click two or three times to do something. They should look at what tabs are used most and make them more accessible, to cut the time it takes to get to that information."

More Commvault Cons »

"This is not a feature-rich solution.""The whole product structure is confusing. You can actually get to do what you want to do. But Acronis seems to have a singular ability to make things difficult.""No technical support and minimal documentation.""When an error occurs, the information is not always easy to understand and these messages should be made more clear.""For smaller companies it's a little more challenging to maintain.""In the span of six months, maintenance is done at least twice and you are told that it is coming up, with apologies for the inconvenience. It's a distraction, and it interferes with the backup schedule.""I would like to have more hardware space. It would make it better. I would like to have two more terabytes.""When I first started using Acronis, I found it a little bit confusing when it came to the configuration."

More Acronis Backup Cons »

"This solution does not support image-level backup of a physical server.""Compared to other vendors, there are features that you will find not included in Veritas.""The cost is quite high. Along with the general costs, the supposed agents that you have to buy for the various options that you want to use ends up driving the costs higher as well.""There are some issues with the Backup Exec Library and the random picking of tapes.""Better integration with non-Microsoft products would be an improvement.""In terms of improvements, I think the pricing model could be improved. They charge you by port, for every port that you have even if you're not using all of them.""The user interface needs to be improved.""Maybe they could improve reporting capabilities and predictions."

Pricing and Cost Advice
"In my experience, compared to solutions like Veritas and Veeam, while they do have their technical pluses and minuses, Commvault can save you on average forty percent initially, and then twenty to twenty-five percent annually.""The price could perhaps be lower as well.""Our cost is around $20,000 per month. The previous year, it was around $30,000 per month. It now costs less because Commvault changed the licensing type for providers.""Our yearly cost is around €20,000... The cost is based on the number of users and the amount of data. They sell it per terabyte.""There is a bit of cost involved with signing up the entire solution. It's not a cheap solution.""Commvault licensing is a perpetual license so only the support is being renewed yearly.""The complete license gives us options for all the features. Commvault does not license based on storage or the management components. It can integrate with any storage vendor. That means that when we are out of storage and need more, we can integrate without additional licensing. In my opinion, Commvault needs to reduce the licensing cost by 20 to 40 percent to make it cost-efficient.""We went from Veritas NetBackup to Commvault. We switched due to upfront licensing and costs. We have more visibility into what we're actually purchasing. It seemed like, overall, the cost of Commvault was cheaper."

More Commvault Pricing and Cost Advice »

"Our licensing fees are on a yearly basis.""The pricing is comparable to the newest solution available on the market, Altaro.""The cost of updates is less than $100 USD yearly.""It is very cost-effective for the SMB segment, especially for start-ups and smaller environments. It is cost-effective for on-premises and on-cloud deployments in such environments.""This is an affordable product and fits within our customers' budgets.""Licensing fees are billed annually and there are no extra charges.""The price of the solution is expensive and could be reduced a little.""You pay for what you use in the cloud. If you don't start the virtual machine in the cloud, you only pay for the information stored there. But when you start the virtual machine, another pricing model is activated."

"We are satisfied with the price of this solution.""It's a good price for the product.""The price of this solution is a bit high.""It is a mid-range solution on the pricing scale.""Its price is reasonable.""This product is priced for smaller customers.""There is an evaluation license available to test this solution.""It has a good price-value ratio. Its price-value ratio is better than Veeam."
