We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The ability to keep data accessible even in the event of hardware failures is highly valued, as it ensures business continuity.""I've had to open a few support cases over the years due to administrator errors, and the support received was top-notch.""It also provides a high degree of mobility, as the virtual SAN can be moved relatively painlessly between on-site devices and the cloud.""We have been able to use more on-prem hardware to reduce cost and also use old disks that we do not trust enough for ordinary RAID or usage.""The ROI is great on this product.""StarWind allows us to move virtual machines from one physical host to another, which greatly reduces the downtime required for maintenance.""The most valuable feature for us is having the ability to configure our local storage using a limited number of disks and using the StarWind VSAN software to keep the cluster nodes in perfect sync.""They offer top-tier support."

"The most valuable feature of Acronis Cyber Infrastructure is the multi-tenancy model, we can create customers and services for them.""The most valuable feature is the backup capability.""The most valuable features are the full image backup, and the file or document sharing, allowing documents to be easily accessed from anywhere."

More Acronis Cyber Infrastructure Pros →

"In our implementations, HDS Storage Virtualization has helped in migrating data with the least amount of downtime, compared to other storage technologies.""This solution allowed us to move from using standalone systems to having all our data center management in one place.""The replication technology can move data faster than EMC MirrorView and requires less bandwidth. The Storage Virtualization technology is the most mature in the market, outside of IBM’s Storwize (which has a lot of compatibility issues, and EMC’s very expensive VPLEX solution); and it works."

Cons
"Initially, when we first started, the sync was horrible.""We don't really have any issues with this product.""Updating the software can be a bit tricky.""It would help if the manufacturer provided clearer and more detailed documentation, with explanations of how the application can be installed in various HA configurations.""The only way I can see this product needing improvement is the consultation level of the StarWind sales and engineers.""High availability for direct attached hardware drives could be useful for increasing the performance of a storage appliance.""It would be nice if we could designate pools, or tiers, for storage of different speeds, and then assign rules to new VMs that would automatically place them into the proper pool.""The reconnection of the attached drives upon a reboot could be improved."

More StarWind Virtual SAN Cons →

"If they could make improvements with the virtual environment then it would be better.""Acronis Cyber Infrastructure is too populated. They have many features, but some features are still missing, it is not complete. They need to improve many features, such as email security and disaster recovery.""I would like to see real-time backup supported in the next release of this solution."

More Acronis Cyber Infrastructure Cons →

"An area for improvement would be technical support. In the next release, I would like to see more features added to make this a more complete solution.""An update to its technology would be good. The G Series has been around for more than five years and HDS seriously needs to ramp up, since the competition has better performance at a lower cost with better features and functionalities. For example, it needs redirect on write Snapshot, preconfigured storage tiering with better IOPS, built-in deduplication technology on hybrid disk, etc.""HDS reaches a ceiling depending on model. The G200 cannot transition to G400, the G400 can transition to G600 but cannot transition to G800, which is the top-end model."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "The setup cost is very low. The pricing is great."
  • "We are happy with the price."
  • "The license is reusable. We can always rebuild it and apply the license. Then, boom, we get new servers, apply the license, and we're back up and running."
  • "The pricing is fine for the work that it does."
  • "When we did all the analysis for StarWind, it was approximately 20 percent less than any of the other solutions that we looked at."
  • "The scalability limitation for us is its licensing. At some point in the fairly near future, we will probably have to upgrade our license so we can store eight terabytes instead of four. We are currently at four terabytes, but we're starting to knock on the door of that capacity."
  • "The pricing is excellent. It will run on anything. You don't have to buy a $100,000 server, with hardware you don't need. You just pay for the license and you're good to go."
  • "The licensing is a bit weird. If you license the standard version of StarWind, it allows you four terabytes. Then, they have a pro version, but with the pro version, the only difference is it doubles the terabytes to eight."

  • "The pricing is on the high side and the subscription is renewed every year."
  • "We pay monthly for the use of Acronis Cyber Infrastructure. There are additional features that we use that have an extra fee."
