We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"We use it to build API proxies for securing targeted back-ends with an emphasis on Continuous Integration/Continuous Development (CI/CD).""Apigee makes proxy management very simple.""Apigee's best features are flexibility and breadth of capabilities.""The features I found most valuable are how the APIs are published, the whole process of finalizing the API, and then controlling it.""The following features are most valuable: API Management, Analytics, Quota, and the Developer Portal.""One of the best parts of this solution is the implementation as we did not need to use code or out-of-box policies. When it comes to the cloud-based architecture, there is a high level of reliability.""It nice and easy for the clients and those using the product to access the product's help resources.""We have been using Apigee mostly for proxy FGIs. We also use its security features as well as traffic control features."

"The most valuable aspect of Mashery is its stability.""The reason why we selected the solution originally was because of its ability to have a gateway both on-premise and in the cloud. This is the most valuable aspect of the solution for us.""We can completely manage the APIs at the org level and BU (business unit) level.""Conversion to RESTful and SOAP protocols and management console (can manage individually throttled settings to manage our service levels for customers).""The solution is a good general API manager. They have a few propriety features but are offering items that are standard in the industry as well.""When we did the product evaluation, we saw that TIBCO Mashery offers end-to-end API life cycle management. It provides all API features that are required for managing the complete life cycle. It includes the developer portal and tools for API monitorization. The out-of-box security features that TIBCO Mashery provides are enterprise-grade, which gives it an edge over other API products.""It is easy to work with .""The platform's most valuable features are its capabilities to support security measures such as tokenization, token refresh, throttling, and enforcement of payloads."

Cons
"They should improve the monitoring tools for on-premises environments.""Apigee could improve by integrating with more identity providers and offering a default authentication module.""Development IDE, especially for Architect Review.""It is an expensive solution.""I see some lagging in regards to integration capacity""I would like them to add features, such as caching and mediation policies.""Integration should be improved.""The caching capabilities are somewhat limited. This is more on the developer-oriented capabilities."

More Apigee Cons →

"They can fix some stability issues and probably make it more user-friendly so that not only an IT savvy person but an end-user can also easily navigate through this solution.""The security needs improvement, specifically, propagation of security to an API. Calling other APIs is something that is missing in the product and that makes us think about going to a competitor.""It lacks many features at the API gateway compared to other solutions.""The way agile life cycle is working needs improvement. I also want to see more support for open API standards. I want to see some improvement on the protocol transformation. That is quite missing now. These are the three main issues.""Monetization is not that great in API management. You need customization. Improvements are needed with sandbox local as well as with monetization. Those features are missing.""TIBCO Cloud API Management should improve its installation and make it easy.""The management console of API and customers' applications are not the most intuitive.""Policy management has been a bit of a concern."

    Overview

Apigee is a platform for developing and managing APIs. Apigee offers an interface for your core services by wrapping them with a proxy layer which is then accessed by other developers. With Apigee, you can design and build APIs and then securely share their services and data without exposing any code.

Because app developers make HTTP requests to an API proxy rather than directly to your services, your services are separated from the developers. All the developer needs to know is the URL of the API proxy endpoint, necessary query parameters, authorization credentials (if they exist), and the response data format.

The API proxy isolates the app developer from your backend service. Therefore, you are free to change the service implementation if the public API remains consistent. By maintaining a consistent frontend API, existing client apps will continue to work regardless of changes on the backend.

Key capabilities of the Apigee API management platform include:

    • Security: Protect APIs, messages, and backends with configurable policies such as OAuth, API key verification, XML/JSON threat protection, and access control.

    • API gateway: Secure and mediate the traffic between clients and backends, and between a company’s APIs and the developers who use the APIs.

    • Developer portal: Attract and engage application developers, enabling them to discover, explore, purchase, and test APIs and register to access and use the APIs.

    • API console: The console helps developers learn and work with APIs.

    • API lifecycle management: Manage the process of designing, developing, publishing, deploying, and versioning APIs.

    • Automated documentation: Automate the development of API documentation and software development kits.

    • Machine learning: Utilize machine learning and analytics to generate actionable insights and reports.
    • API monitoring: Apigee offers monitoring tools for API troubleshooting, security, and optimization.

    Reviews from Real Users:

Apigee stands out among its competitors for a number of reasons. Several major ones are its rich developer portal, its advanced analytics, and its central monitoring system.

Carlos R., a software architect at Caja Los Andes writes, “The central monitoring feature is the most valuable. It also provides security for the APIs and high availability for our use cases. Apigee is the best product in the industry in comparison to other API management solutions. It helps in fast development, which is a top point. It also supports a lot of industry standards and has excellent documentation.”

An associate vice president at a tech services company notes, “The analytics function and the developer portal are the two valuable features of Apigee. The analytics part is very good, and the developer portal is quite rich in features. The authentication mechanisms are quite easily built into Apigee, which is something that most of the other products have also now started supporting.”

APIs are critical business assets that form the foundation of digital business enabling new business models, improved operational efficiency, and connected customer experiences. TIBCO Cloud API Management empowers users to maximize the business value of their APIs products through an end-to-end solution that provides full lifecycle API management alongside capabilities for API discovery, implementation and analytics that speed business value realization across your digital ecosystem.
