We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The most important advantage in using AWS Lake Formation is its ability to connect the data lake to the other technologies in AWS. This is what I advise my clients.""We use AWS Lake Formation typically for the data warehouse.""The solution has many features that are applicable to events such as audits.""It is seamlessly integrated within the AWS ecosystem, making it straightforward to manage access patterns for AWS-native services.""The solution is quite good at handling analytics. It's done a good job at helping us centralize them."

"The key element in this solution is its rapid response. If you have a question about prices, buyers, customers, providers, or services, you need the answer in a minute or two. That's the key benefit for us that a solution like BW gives us.""What I like most about SAP Business Warehouse is that it's a seamless integration platform. A valuable feature in the tool is the monitoring alert that makes you aware of what process chain has failed. There's no manual monitoring required if you have configured an alert system, so the process chain can run in the background, and you can get alerts about it. The functionalities I find good in SAP Business Warehouse are alerting and monitoring. If you have configured the tool and have integrated it with SAP Solution Manager, then it's a good product to use.""The features that I have found most valuable are its capabilities to connect to Excel and to slice and dice.""The most valuable feature of this solution is the advanced structuring of data capabilities. You can get different structures of data to suit your needs.""SAP Business Warehouse is a scalable solution.""Out-of-the-box reports are very useful.""With the technical support, the response has been pretty good from the SAP side.""The most useful feature has been he ability to feed data into multiple systems in various formats."

Cons
"For the end-users, it's not as user-friendly as it could be.""AWS Lake Formation's pricing could be cheaper.""The solution could make improvements around orchestration and doing some automation stuff on AWS front automation. It would be useful if we could use automation to build images and use hardened images which are CIS compliant.""In our experience what could be improved are not the support, performance or monitoring, but at a managerial level, the very expensive professional services of AWS. This could be an area of improvement for them. It's too expensive to acquire their support.""It falls short when it comes to more granular access control, such as cell-level or row-level entitlements which is a significant drawback for organizations that require precise control over who can access specific rows of data."

More AWS Lake Formation Cons →

"I would like to see a different end solution in order to read the data and attract internal users.""We are very unhappy with technical support. First of all, they send their sales agents or pre-sales agents and most of them who don't know the solution as a properly trained tech would. We have an on-site SAP representative who is supposed to help us with our high priority and production issues, and they're not satisfactory to say the least.""There is room for improvement from a technical perspective.""SAP Business Warehouse could improve by having more out-of-the-box use cases to cover more business types or operations.""What I'd like improved in SAP Business Warehouse is its setup. It could be more flexible, and it could be a configuration-based setup.""In the next release, my suggestion would be to have user-friendly interfaces and performance issues be addressed.""What I'd like to improve in SAP Business Warehouse is its data structure, that's a little bit rigid. It could be a bit more flexible, so you can design your data structure and improve performance when creating a solution. Currently, the way data is stored in SAP Business Warehouse is rigid.""The way the data is stored is kind of rigid in SAP BW as a product. It could be more flexible so that when we are designing a solution, we can design our own data structures and try to improve performance."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "AWS Lake Formation is a bit expensive."
  • More AWS Lake Formation Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "It's moderately expensive, but definitely has its branding and price value for it."
  • "It's quite pricey. SAP changed its pricing policy, so they give you one engine and then you have to buy everything next to it, like MSS, the BPC licenses, and everything else."
  • "The license for SAP Business Warehouse is paid yearly, and there's no extra cost in addition to the standard licensing fees."
  • "Overall, the pricing is not fixed and is expensive."
  • "The licensing cost for SAP Business Warehouse depends on your revenue. Its licensing structure is a little bit complicated. The more your revenue is, the higher the price, but SAP does have different pricing structures for various companies. For small businesses, licensing isn't based on revenue, but for big companies, it's revenue-based. There's some agreement regarding pricing for huge companies, so it's different, and SAP Business Warehouse pricing isn't fixed. On a scale of one to ten, I'm rating the licensing cost for SAP Business Warehouse as five because it's very high. As your revenue grows, your licensing cost also increases, so you have to factor that in when calculating your cost."
  • "SAP Business Warehouse licensing is a bit expensive compared to other products in the market."
  • "I would not recommend it to small-scale companies. The price is too much."
  • "The solution is quite expensive."
