The total ranking of a product, represented by the bar length, is based on a weighted aggregate score.
The score is calculated as follows: The product with the highest count in each area gets the highest available score.
(20 points for Reviews; 16 points for Views, Comparisons, and Followers.)
Every other product gets assigned points based on its total in proportion to the #1 product in
that area. For example, if a product has 80% of the number of reviews compared to the product
with the most reviews then the product's score for reviews would be 20% (weighting factor) *
80% = 16. For Average Rating, the maximum score is 32 points awarded linearly based on our
rating scale of 1-10. If a product has fewer than ten reviews, the point contribution
for Average Rating is reduced (one-third reduction in points for products with 5-9 reviews;
two-thirds reduction for products with fewer than five reviews). Reviews that are more than 24 months old,
as well as those written by resellers, are completely excluded from the ranking algorithm.
I have found great use out of many features, most notably the Management Console and the Database Designer. Many people with lots of experience creating table projections can get frustrated trying to optimize some complex queries, however, in... more»
The fast columnar store database structure allows our query times to be at least 10x faster than on any other database. This enables us to get answers to data questions as well as numerous analytics on our data out to our internal and... more»
Documentation has become much better, but can always use some improvement. Love the tech support, but hoping Micro Focus will invest in some additional training for the Level 1 responders so they are much more familiar with more areas of the... more»
Scalability: Ability to load huge number of datasets (I have experience with petabytes of data) and process those things. Storage is not limited. We can increase whatever we want. Performance: The distributed architecture of Redshift has the... more»

I have seen queries that take over 24 hours on MS SQL Server to complete, complete in less than 10 minutes on Vertica. I have seen queries that take several minutes, up to an hour, on MS SQL Server, complete in less than 10 seconds, sometime... more»
While the documentation is very extensive and relatively complete, it’s poorly organized and there are way too few examples. It’s come a long way since the first version I saw, but it still has a long way to go. Plus, there is very little... more»
The biggest, most valuable feature for us is the clustering aspect with a share-nothing mentality. Most clusters usually require their own shared storage, shared subnet, etc. and this becomes a pain and a nightmare to maintain. The second... more»

Developer Tools - Vertica really needs some kind of IDE plugin for a system such as Eclipse or IntelliJ. Developing external functions in Vertica can kind of be like shooting in the dark sometimes. Also, an improved monitor or monitoring with... more»
We are currently in a basic stage of analytics and the first goal we have is to make sure the numbers are correct. BW has some features that help you to build factors and ETL in such a way that it's easy to get to correct responses. That's... more»
The key element in this solution is its rapid response. If you have a question about prices, buyers, customers, providers, or services, you need the answer in a minute or two. That's the key benefit for us that a solution like BW gives us.
One of our requirements is the ability to easily get answers regarding trends and exceptions. In BW, it is not that easy to get such information. I expect better trend and exception detection, better pattern detection. When I think about the... more»
* It is based on PostgreSQL. * It’s managed. Meaning, AWS takes care of handling infrastructure, deployments, encryption, and uptime for you. * It’s cheap when you consider the price per terrabyte per year. * It’s integrated into the AWS stack.
At my previous company that does mobile analytics as its core product, we moved all the analytics backend from MongoDB to Redshift. Where I currently work, we use it as our main data lake/data warehouse.
While It's probably the best product of its category (managed SQL-based data warehouse at scale), it has a few shortcomings, although very few. The main issue people complain about, and I agree with the claim, is that it's hard to load your... more»

IBM has taken a new approach to database technology. One of the most amazing features of dashDB is how it uses compression to get results in lighting speed. dashDB uses advanced processing which doesn't require the entire dataset to fit in... more»
I believe that many organizations need to look at how they are servicing their customers. dashDB doesn't necessarily replace your existing infrastructure. However, as an add-on, you can now expand your overall operations and performance goals.
Every product has room for improvement. This is one of the most important things that comes to mind about IBM and their mind set when it comes to managing customers using dashDB. As a fully managed cloud service, the day-to-day backend of... more»
Vertica is an excellent data warehouse platform. Its column-oriented architecture makes it a powerful database specialized for data warehouses. Data should be designed around a star schema. Data is accessed via SQL, which most developers are... more»

The feature of the product that is most important is the speed. I needed a columnar database, and its speed is what it's built to do, and so that's what really does differentiate Vertica from its competitors. I think what also draws me to it... more»

Vertica is in our core technology stack. We are serving reports and dashboard to clients from it. It's very important to us that it fulfills its function correctly and provides us with an advantage over our competitors.
The internal documentation. As a DBA, I really want to understand how its internals works. It needs to handle high concurrency short queries better as Vertica is not handling these well, and we have had to develop our own tool to help us with... more»

What do you think of Amazon Redshift?
Easy to build out our snowflake design and load data Ability to dynamically increase space requirements Good speed Extremely reliable
• Improvements to My Organization
We use Redshift as our primary BI data repository. It provides BI for all four of our product lines, which run on Redshift. It is low cost and highly reliable!
• Room for Improvement
It would be nice if we could turn off an instance. However, it would retain the instance in history, thus allowing us to restart without beginning from scratch.
• Use of Solution
We have been using this a little over a year.
• Deployment Issues
It is pretty easy to learn and use. If you've worked with SQL before, you won't have any problems. Also, it works very well with Talend, which is our ETL tool....
