Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"Technical support has been very good. They usually respond quickly to our requests.""The solution is dependent on the network bandwidth. For example, if they have a bandwidth of 10Mbps the solution will run a little heavier. If the bandwidth is good the solution runs well.""The most valuable aspect of CloudEndure Disaster Recovery is its instant block replication feature. This allows us to perform live block verification and eliminates the need to concern ourselves with recovery point objectives. This capability is particularly advantageous for critical workloads.""We went from an organization with minimal to no disaster recovery. I was able to spin up the disaster recovery environment with AWS rather quickly and meet business requirements.""It's on the cheaper side and not too expensive for users.""We have never had any issues with scalability.""For regular backup and restore solutions, this product is fine.""The initial setup is really straightforward."

"The most valuable features are the special plugins such as SAP HANA databases, Microsoft SQL, and various types of virtualization.""It works great and it provides you with several standard tools to restore your backup, even after a big failure.""It brought many advantages - such as the learning curve being very light.""It is easy to scale Bacula Enterprise even if your system is growing tremendously in data and servers.""The solution has extensive documentation and a very active community.""Bacula is pretty stable.""It can be used in virtually any environment we have onsite."

Cons
"The UI could be a little sleeker.""I would like to see better support for creating and working with archives.""The bandwidth is a constant upload communication to the AWS DR environment, so if you do not have the proper bandwidth, it will definitely eat up your internet line.""I have not seen any areas that need improvement at this time.""The user interface, customer support, and the recovery time for the current customer query could use improvement.""I set up a test, deleted the source, and went to fail it back, and it didn't work.""Sometimes a server will get a bit behind. ""The failback could be improved. It should be more intuitive."

"It could improve its interface or offer a specific screen for the manager of the company.""Easier setup and configuration, perhaps including a GUI, would be an improvement.""We would like to see an improvement in the functionality of the GUI.""The initial setup could be a bit easier.""We are looking for a unique interface that can rule both enterprise and open source editions. Such a thing does not yet exist.""Bacula needs a graphical user interface because, for administrators, the command-line interface is okay, but for the average user it is not very easy.""A more user-friendly interface (GUI) can be developed."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "We were happy with the pricing that they gave us."
  • "They license us on a per machine basis. We have a set number of machines, which we have licensed."
  • "I feel the product's pricing is a good value. Licensing is pretty straightforward."
  • "The pricing is better now that they had come out with the Tier 2 which replicates a little less often. In comparison to what I would have been spending with any other type of solution, the pricing is fair."
  • "Where the price adds up, there are CloudEndure licenses, then there is the AWS environment, and finally, there is the AWS storage, so cumulatively, it adds up."
  • "It has saved us money from having to buy hardware for disaster recovery."
  • "CloudEndure Disaster Recovery is charging clients $20 to do the DR backups. It is an expensive solution."
  • "I rate the price of CloudEndure Disaster Recovery a six out of ten."

  • "This is an open-source solution."

    Overview

AWS Elastic Disaster Recovery (AWS DRS) minimizes downtime and data loss with fast, reliable recovery of on-premises and cloud-based applications using affordable storage, minimal compute, and point-in-time recovery.

Set up AWS Elastic Disaster Recovery on your source servers to initiate secure data replication. Your data is replicated to a staging area subnet in your AWS account, in the AWS Region you select. The staging area design reduces costs by using affordable storage and minimal compute resources to maintain ongoing replication. You can perform non-disruptive tests to confirm that implementation is complete. During normal operation, maintain readiness by monitoring replication and periodically performing non-disruptive recovery and failback drills. If you need to recover applications, you can launch recovery instances on AWS within minutes, using the most up-to-date server state or a previous point in time. After your applications are running on AWS, you can choose to keep them there, or you can initiate data replication back to your primary site when the issue is resolved. You can fail back to your primary site whenever you’re ready.

Bacula Enterprise is a highly scalable, especially robust and secure data backup and recovery software. Its unique low cost subscription model empowers data centers to truly escape data volume price traps. With a high degree of flexibility and customizability, Bacula offers native integration with a wide range of hypervisors, databases, file systems, cloud interfaces and containers. High numbers of enterprise organizations worldwide (incl. NASA, Bank of Austria, Swisscom or Sky PLC) have adopted Bacula Enterprise backup software in mission critical environments because of its advanced features and ability to handle high data volume at very low cost.
