The most valuable feature of the 7700 series is probably the multi-context subset VRS, which lets you use multi-VRS, multi-context, and also VPC setup, where you have two logical devices that are still separate in terms of management planes, but have shared, virtual core channels.Solid product, communications and support from a well-known dependable company.Nexus provides inner redundancy. It allows us to perform updates on individual switches, while still maintaining reliability and uptime on the server. It provides a very flexible connection to a server. When you go into history and the VPC, it provides a very flexible connection from it. Once a server goes down I can instruct it easily. So the network actually keeps quality even if onsite it is down. The most valuable features are the great performance, high availability and easy administration. We leverage Cisco DCNM a lot, which allows us to automate. The setup was very easy, but managing it in operations was very complex. The most valuable feature of Cisco Nexus is the performance, flexibility, configuration, and cost. It's not a traditional pricing model from Cisco. They've offered our company a considerable reduction in price. That makes Cisco Nexus now very competitive with other vendors.

Cons
The only problem is that at the moment it's an Extreme product and Extreme is not really pushing it. They have to make up for weak innovation and I'm not sure if they want to do that.

The initial setup was pretty complex, mostly because of our environment, having to do multi-context. That's where you have a lot of different logical routes that are in one physical device, and it can get kind of complex trying to think about how to set all that up. You really have to whiteboard it out a lot.The product could be updated more frequently for other phone model support.Overall, I wish it was a more intuitive OS.There is some room for improvement when it comes to the frequency on the network. Our only complaint is about the licensing because it can always be a little more cost-effective.We lag on the configuration. The changes make a difference in troubleshooting. One improvement needed is support for Multi-CAD scale that we were concerned about. We're not hitting any limits at this point.I would like to see more granularity.

We have a three-year subscription for our licensing fees.We have three hundred to four hundred data centers of Nexus. So the coverage associated with Smart Net is 27 by 4, is basically what we spend each year. If the incentives get better, which I know they're working on, it would be great but right now we're buying year to year. Our licensing costs for this solution are approximately $100K a year for the switching part. It's around $160K a year for our license. This solution should be made more affordable. Our licensing fees are paid annually. We only have a yearly support contract, as we do not use any of the subscription-based functions at this time. The licensing fees for this solution are approximately $800,000 USD annually.
