We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros
The most valuable feature was the backup - it was easy to back up. It was also very easy to administrate and manage the system; much easier and faster. Finally, it was easy to extend the disk capacities. The integration between the storage and the server applications is the most valuable feature of this solution. It cuts down on the necessity to buy a secondary storage system.. It saves money in the long-run.The most valuable feature of Cisco HyperFlex HX is that it is self-contained.Cisco HyperFlex HX has improved the way our organization functions in the way that the time to deliver a VM takes me five minutes. In comparison, my cloud team's response is a couple of days based on all their overhead policies, procedures, and ticket requests. This is substantial. The most valuable features of this solution are the connectivity, consistency, and that we now have fewer vulnerabilities on the network. The most valuable features of this solution are scalability, performance, and reliability. It scales well inside of a large data center. The most valuable feature for our company is that it works internally. We have a lot of internal projects for optimization. The most valuable feature is that it is something small that can be more easily deployed than a full data center set of servers.

During the maintenance periods, on any part of the storage or VMware migration, we have had no downtime. The ability to pool the storage to leverage thin-provisioning is a huge saving in space and costs.Supporting of Automated-Storage-Tiering (AST) is a good feature that saves money.DataCore's ability to seamlessly move virtual volume data between storage pools as well as their synchronous mirroring has made maintenance and disaster recovery planning achievable.DataCore has helped provide flexible, highly available, high-performance storage that otherwise would have been outside our price range. The features I have found most valuable are the active-active, or so-called grid technology, and the integration into our VMware-vCenter.I'd have to say that the biggest improvement gained by using SANsymphony has to be the performance of the product. The most valuable feature for us is that we can adjust the size of the storage very easily, without stopping production.

The HPE Hyper Converged solution is used in a hybrid cloud configuration. We assess the disk space and partition additional capacity.I've found the data protection features the most valuable. If you were comparing this solution to VMware, it has more features, and it's very fast on the recovery. The most valuable features are resiliency and data protection. Our storage and IT are now at an enterprise level with all the necessary controls and restrictions being enacted. The HA, which means I have a copy of the VMs always available, and the moment a VM is down, the system tries to power it on again.

Cons
I would have liked it to be able to back up the system to a cloud, to be able to work from any other placeWe would like to have the ability to not have to reboot while doing updates. Being able to work through updates with as minimal amount of impact to users. The initial setup of the Cisco HyperFlex HX platform was medium-level difficult. It's a little bit different from traditional servers. It takes getting used to the learning curve.Cisco's technical support originally was outstanding, but it has declined over the last 12 months. I've heard they're trying to do better, but I haven't been overly impressed with their support recently for HyperFlex. The additional feature I would like to see included in the next release of this solution is more security. We want to add more data servers to all the hosts all over the world. We have 140 hosts that connect to one data center in Manila. The scalability could use improvement. The deployment could be made a little bit easier, as we still seem to struggle with it a little bit for a day or so to get it running. We would like to see better integration in the next release of this solution.

I think the performance reporting can be improved by adding historical statistics into a database for the purpose of comparing.Having an enterprise "Storage Dashboard" that can show capacity, usage, performance, and any issues would be very beneficial. We are waiting for container support (on the roadmap), as well as a user-friendly full web-administration capability, and an improved API.DataCore needs a more efficient and better way to keep track of metrics and counters so that we can do baseline analysis to measure performance. The cost is becoming prohibitive since they moved to a subscription model.I think an easier way to open a service call, right through the DataCore GUI, would be an improvement, especially when there is an urgent issue. There is no way of quickly matching the exact size of a vDisk to a disk pool. The alert system could have more features.

Some improvement is required in the availability of the data and performance. The solution is too expensive for our customers. The pricing should be lower. The price can be improved. We would like to see support for some open source virtualization technology like for example KVM.One problem I've had is that I was trying to do a move and it was not working. I was given an error and a message asking me to shut down the machine first and then move it to another host.A software-only version of the solution, without the hardware, would be nice. The storage efficiency is weak and needs to be improved.Data protection and optimization: It is really weak. They do not offer deduplication or compression.

Pricing and Cost Advice
It's much more expensive than rack servers. It was an issue, but when you compare it to the number of people who were administrative assistants before, it's on the positive ROI side. It's much cheaper. We currently have a perpetual license, which is kind of unlimited, so we don't have the normal licensing cost, yet.Our licensing costs are large, but it is combined between all of the Cisco products that we have. One of the challenges we have with HyperFlex is that they have a subscription fee for the operating system that runs on it, and if I remember correctly, it costs approximately $15,000 USD per month. It is relatively expensive, but it can easily return value by freeing up other resources. It's roughly $30,000 per Hyperflex license, so that would be about $60,000 a year. Our licensing is Hybrid. We have all of our applications for billing and outage management through this. They are not the cheapest on the market. But there's an old saying I like to quote: "If you know that you are getting what you pay for, it's fine if it's expensive."

This solution allows the use of off-the-shelf hardware and charges by the TB of storage.Make sure you are made aware of the annual subscription cost when purchasing. The cost is at the same level as other storage solutions and it is easy to understand the licensing. The pricing and licensing are better with DataCore.

The solution is too expensive for our customers. The pricing should be lower. It is an expensive solution, however. If they could adjust the pricing, that would be helpful.Pricing with Dell EMC is double the price which I paid for HPE. However, in the end, Dell EMC is double in performance. This is not an apple to apple comparison though, as I have a four node from Dell EMC and a three node. The price per value compared to other solutions, like Nutanix and SimpliVity. (We made the deal before approval of HPE SimpliVity deal).
