We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"StarWind support has been great in helping resolve other issues not caused by their software.""Recovery and maintenance are now less stressful and most importantly, it allows our users to keep working.""Having the ability to scale horizontally if needed is a huge plus for future growth.""I've had to open a few support cases over the years due to administrator errors, and the support received was top-notch.""Immediately we noticed huge performance gains, even on older hardware and once we implemented a 10GB link between both servers, the sync was near-instant after the initial sync was complete.""The most valuable feature is the reliable storage replication, which enables me to create a robust infrastructure to run our business.""High Availability is the best feature of product.""The fact that we can expand our storage and add on to our compute nodes easily and how amazing the StarWind technical support team is really adding value to our purchase."

"The solution is scalable.""Saves us a lot of space in the data center.""The setup was very straightforward.""The catalog of APIs for automation has been most valuable, although they are quite limited.""We're doing a lot of VMware for IT so this solution is really valuable from a VMH point of view. We're trying to assist our customers mainly with management, because that's what they want. The most important aspects are ease of management, as well as ease of configuration, allowing them to attach additional nodes and resources for the applications.""It is easy to use for management and operations teams because the tools are in one place.""The most valuable feature is the overall integration and just seeing the three different layers which make up the machine software. Altogether, it's something that I would say is much better than any other solution that I have experienced before.""The program is stable."

"It is easier to manage compared to the other vendors.""HPE Nimble Storage dHCI is stable.""I love InfoSite. That gets you a lot of good detailed information.""We have the ability to increase the storage without any additional costs.""Simply being able to move objects and the duplication feature have been quite effective.""Nimble DHCI is really user friendly and not complex""Very good in-line compression.""Nimble is easy to use, but hard to install. Once it's installed, it's user-friendly. Reporting is another advantage because we get a lot of statistical forecasting. It helps us see into the future with that."

Cons
"When StarWind Virtual SAN for vSphere nodes go offline unexpectedly, the nodes have to re-sync disks fully which takes a long time. We had a power failure and when both nodes came online, VMware vSphere didn't see StarWind disks before I manually re-scanned them form ESXi administration console even though it should happen automatically""It is not very clear within the StarWind Management Console or the StarWind support documentation how to perform maintenance on a single node in a two-node HA cluster.""Initially, when we first started, the sync was horrible.""They need to improve the speed of the interfaces, thus allowing for better traffic on the network.""The main issue we ran into was the documentation. We attempted to set up the product in our test environment by ourselves and ran into several areas of the documentation that were unclear to us.""Feature-wise we are only waiting for the release of a "planned disaster" feature that would allow us to patch a hypervisor node without having to take the full storage offline.""I would definitely like to see quite a bit more on the monitoring side of things.""The documentation can be better for the free tier."

More StarWind Virtual SAN Cons →

"Licensing restrictions can be frustrating.""The storage capability must be improved.""We're also running Hyper-V virtual machines. But we recently discovered that migration of the Hyper-V virtual machines is a bit challenging. Maybe if Dell EMC can come out with a tool that will make it very easy for us to migrate the Microsoft Hyper-V machine, that may be an improvement.""I am not really impressed by the technical support of this solution.""Exporting data from the dashboard is not very user-friendly. It's just designed in a way that it's going to cover let's say 90%, 80%, of the end-users needs. If you need more sophisticated reporting it's not easy to have.""The solution must be more flexible.""The solution needs to offer more documentation and educational materials.""I would like to see a more user-friendly interface."

More Dell PowerFlex Cons →

"The product does not support file services.""I rate Nimble one out of 10 for ease of setup. Setting up Nimble Storage was a nightmare. It took us three months to deal with all the kinks and bugs. We had two people from HPE assisting us and two from our team.""Their documentation needs to be simpler to read yet more detailed so it's easy to compare models and easier for clients to pick.""Lacking integration to the cloud.""The performance of HPE Nimble Storage dHCI could improve. Other solutions, such as Cisco, are better.""The product’s performance needs improvement. It could also help with more environment monitoring and AI technologies to improve the performance and thresholds.""I'm not sure if there are features lacking.""The initial setup is a little bit complicated."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "The setup cost is very low. The pricing is great."
  • "We are happy with the price."
  • "The license is reusable. We can always rebuild it and apply the license. Then, boom, we get new servers, apply the license, and we're back up and running."
  • "The pricing is fine for the work that it does."
  • "When we did all the analysis for StarWind, it was approximately 20 percent less than any of the other solutions that we looked at."
  • "The scalability limitation for us is its licensing. At some point in the fairly near future, we will probably have to upgrade our license so we can store eight terabytes instead of four. We are currently at four terabytes, but we're starting to knock on the door of that capacity."
  • "The pricing is excellent. It will run on anything. You don't have to buy a $100,000 server, with hardware you don't need. You just pay for the license and you're good to go."
  • "The licensing is a bit weird. If you license the standard version of StarWind, it allows you four terabytes. Then, they have a pro version, but with the pro version, the only difference is it doubles the terabytes to eight."
