Quotes From Members Comparing Micro Focus SiteScope vs Quest Foglight for APM

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
SiteScope has built-in flat file DB, hence it removes the dependency of an external DB for higher stability.Has a simple setup. It can be up and running within hours. It can monitor over a 100 technologies with built-in solution templates. The Monitor Templates functionality allowed us to spin up monitoring with .csv files pretty easily.Simplest tool for monitoring servers, web content, databases and other hardware. Its dashboard is really good.Simple deployment: The deployment uses protocols such as NetBios, SSH, WMI, SNMP, which means that any device with any of these protocols will be monitored. It's easy to template standard monitoring configurations, and automate monitoring configuration. It's a very flexible product so you can run a script out of it, even straight out of the box.

The most valuable feature is drill-down monitoring, which shows us from one interface the transaction chain from the front end to back end.It provides a history of the activities on our SQL servers.Infrastructure Monitoring and End User Monitoring are the product’s most valuable features to me.Having standard monitoring features and a central repository saves us a lot of time and reduces risk of incidents.Dell Foglight does analyze and optimize your virtual infrastructure. It definitely reduces operational cost.FxV is valuable as we can playback the session. At a glance I can easily see what is going on with all of my VMware environments, including top consumers of resources.Intuitive, Single-pane-of-glass dashboards for real-time statistics and long-term statistics for capacity management and in-depth analytics

Cons
Direct integration with an SMS gateway for sending critical alerts to the support SME. This will help customer investing in third party middleware solutions for SMS.They have not kept up with browser security requirements or advances in GUIs, they switched to a corruptible database architecture instead of text config files. They should provide more templates for new vendor devices. It could be more reliable using a database repository instead of a log repository.Full application functionality available via the API. There are some functions you can perform managing monitors, that are only available through the UI.More out of the box Cloud integration and capabilities.

I want to see a new interface that contains HTML5 features. The current version of Foglight (on-premise edition) is so fusty in comparison with leaders of Gartner APM Quadrant - i.e. Appdynamics, NewRelic, Dynatrace.I would perhaps like to see more SSMS connections. We are running a Webmethods stack (Software AG) and Foglight is unable to instrument. We are in a POC with Dynatrace and it was able to instrument with little effort.Being able to incorporate other bespoke monitoring into Foglight would have made the tool even more useful.I think installation and setup needs little more improvement especially when you are installing with external database.I want to see mobile access application in the next release. They need to improve the stability of FxM and FxV.The “cartridge” concept for every little thing is a bit of a bother to implement.

Pricing and Cost Advice
SiteScope licensing can be node based-or monitor-based. I would recommend for node-based licensing. You have to pay for their "solution templates". Other tools do not charge you for knowledge-based monitoring bundles.Depending on your requirements, there are two licensing models available. A simple point model, or an endpoint model.Licensing is a little steep.

Since the product split – the licensing is a bit more complex.Foglight can be expensive I would go with the pricing at a three year deal. The price is expensive for us.I recall it being a very expensive solution relative to function and stability.
