We performed a comparison between Nutanix Cloud Manager (NCM) and Nutanix Prism based on real PeerSpot user reviews.
Find out in this report how the two Virtualization Management Tools solutions compare in terms of features, pricing, service and support, easy of deployment, and ROI."It is easy to access. Since it is web-based, you just punch in the API and it gives you all the servers in the company. The solution has helped optimize database performances."
"The file server feature in Nutanix is very good, offering a solution-worthy feature that can host files, blocks, and object storage in the same cluster."
"Using X-Play is simple. In three steps you can define things and there is also a wizard to guide you... The wizard is the simplest way to automate and the resulting automation saves us time."
"The solution’s ease of use is mind-blowing."
"It's easily expandable storage-wise and compute-wise."
"The ability to do Layer 2 stretching across data centers is valuable. The migration of VMs from one location to the other is also valuable."
"The solution has automated reports and workflows. You can configure it to automatically send out reports to the business units responsible for managing cloud costs, so you don't need to log into the tool to get information. Cost Governance's user interface and dashboards are beautiful. The customers love it because it's easy to use. They can run it and get a report an hour later to immediately see the savings."
"Prism Pro has given us a central administration of our entire virtual environment. Everything can be managed and updated through Prism. Being able to turn features on and off with one slide of the mouse is such a great feature. It allows us to manage storage and containers as well as the actual machines through one pane of glass. No need for any additional software. Pulse is in my opinion is one of the best features. Having the cluster monitor itself and notify support of any issues is a plus plus."
"Nutanix Prism is very simple to use compared to other products. I have tried a number of tools, including VMware ESXi. Nutanix Prism is much simpler to use and we feel data transfers in it are very fast."
"It also does a good job when it comes to optimizing performance with machine learning and AI. It's able to identify the VMs that are constrained and not constrained, and which ones are "bully" or not. It gives you a recommendation based on your usage. It learns your user environment."
"Prism Central is a single point to manage every cluster. Everything can be managed in one panel. Everything is there on the main page of the dashboard."
"The most valuable features are the dashboards."
"Because in my role I create a lot of reports, it is very handy to be able to show the customer, "This is your cluster. At the moment, you are using this much CPU, this much RAM, and this much storage." I can give them information on what they're using, how many VMs, and the amount of data they're using."
"For me, the speed of cloning virtual machines and the hyper-convergence feature are the most valuable aspects of the solution."
"Resource monitoring is the most valuable feature."
"Before implementing Prism, we had an issue with too many alerts for similar issues, so it was difficult to maintain them. The alerts kept coming, and we had a hard time keeping track of everything. We had multiple alerts about CPU, RAM, and storage. Prism helps us identify and eliminate false alerts because most of them were redundant."
"Nutanix Cloud Manager could partner with more partners to bring technologies that align with the area's policies and business needs."
"Compatibility with multiple clouds and a single control would help us. We are also getting onto GCP, and there is limited compatibility with GCP in the areas we need. We are using GCP primarily for data analytics."
"While using Nutanix, we need to switch off the VM in case we are doing an update. We have to turn off the VM if we are updating the memory or hard disk space. In a normal scenario, we switch off the VM, update it and then update the RAM. Once updated, we need to switch on the machine and wait for the RAM to initialize. The same goes for hard drives as well."
"While there are multiple clouds supported, we want less friction around the ease of delivery. We want the ability to integrate other clouds, unify the accounts."
"NCM's analytics could be better because we're not getting an accurate analysis of our virtual machines, and we're over-provisioning some of them."
"The one thing I wish it had was that it worked more closely and more cleanly with custom data inputs, which I know is a lot to ask."
"I would like to see a desktop application for administration of the solution. That's the thing I missed the most. Other solutions have a client that you can install on your computer. You can actually connect to and do the administration from an application instead of using a web portal, which is what Nutanix provides."
"In the gambling industry, you have a lot of regulation from different countries. One of those regulations states that you have to be able to send all the logs of your Prism to a separate server, what we call the syslog server. On Prism Central, this doesn't work. We have opened a case for it, since this is a basic feature nowadays. We spoke to Nutanix, and they said that it will be in future updates. We did an update, following their support, but once we did the update, it wasn't fixed."
"I think that the Nutanix Prism Pro the terms it uses, it's not very user-friendly."
"Although this solution has very good analytics capabilities, it can be even more granular."
"There is a bug with the HTML5 interface."
"One problem I faced when creating a VM and adding a hard disk to is that Nutanix Prism did not allow me to reduce that VM's hard disk."
"The initial setup is extremely complex. I am Nutanix Certified, so I had the ability, but there were still things that we weren't trained in. They mandate—not recommend, but mandate—having an approved installer do it, and it was a very painful process. The installer that we took from CDW was not good, in the extreme. I had to go back to Nutanix directly and get all the problems fixed."
"I would like to see the capability to use FC SAN storage."
"In our environment we are using it alongside VMware, so some integration with that would be nice. VMware has SHD (Skyline Health Diagnostics) which diagnoses health and gives suggestions. A plug-in for taking information out of it would be helpful."
"One thing I would like to see is one-click migration. I know that's on the roadmap, but we don't have it yet."
