Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"Firmware compliance is one of the most valuable features.""The most valuable features are the composable structure, infrastructure, and automation.""Provides the strongest support for automation.""Have a single plane of glass across all of the server platforms.""Just the ability to provision the servers with storage and network everything within one interface, not having to go into multiple interfaces to provision those pieces.""It gives us a view of all our servers, which we did not have before in real-time.""I don't have to use CD-ROMs or anything like that to provision the servers.""We get templates, so it's speed to delivery for us. It's a big difference with the template features."

"Nutanix has one of the greatest support organizations that I've ever had to use. They're polite, you get someone on the phone fast, and they always find a solution for you.""Prism provides us with insights and the ability to access all the sub-components of Nutanix's hyperconverged platform.""What I like the most are the self-healing and the ability to see everything at a glance, from metrics to the resiliency status of the hardware. As soon as you log in, that's what you see.""The most valuable features are Prism Central and the Disaster Recovery.""The features that I have found most valuable are its storage flexibility, linear scalability, and perhaps ease of use and powerful support.""The Clone and Snapshot features are two of the most valuable aspects of the solution for our organization. Rather than simply one-click automation the Snapshot and reverse Snapshot are great.""There are so many valuable features but Nutanix Flow for microsegmentation of the network, and the Life Cycle Manager for dating hardware and software are among the most important for us.""Because in my role I create a lot of reports, it is very handy to be able to show the customer, "This is your cluster. At the moment, you are using this much CPU, this much RAM, and this much storage." I can give them information on what they're using, how many VMs, and the amount of data they're using."

Cons
"We ran into a couple of issues here and there with the baselines for the firmware and not having enough space on the appliance itself to be able to have more than two baselines.""They can improve reporting and provide more customized reports. Currently, reporting is a bit limited. It can be complex to learn and manage for beginners. Because of my experience, I find it comfortable to manage, which might not be the case with beginners. It would be good if they can make it a little bit easier to understand. They can provide a more graphical view of connectivity and other things. Their technical support can also be improved.""Specifically, it would be great if we had the ability to reapply the server profile faster.""I have to chop it up into smaller parts, because I have an installation in Europe and it covers the whole world. That is not so good. They need to be more localized, so I am going to chop it up into smaller bits.""It would be better if we can add every HPE device to OneView, such as MSA, as well as the other servers like the DL server and ML server.""We've had issues, for example, with RAM.""I had some minor difficulties with upgrading, but the solution still works fine.""It's a little slow sometimes. Overall, I think it does what it's supposed to do. I think that as they evolve it, it'll get quicker."

More HPE OneView Cons →

"The process of converting and importing virtual machines to the Nutanix environment is quite complicated.""The solution should offer the ability to change network settings without removing the network card from the virtual machine.""I would like to have some cluster management tools included.""Nutanix is a great product, but I won't say it is a data center product. If it could leverage or work with non-Nutanix infrastructure, it would be a total data center solution. Right now, with Prism Central, we can only manage Nutanix clusters.""I think that the Nutanix Prism Pro the terms it uses, it's not very user-friendly.""The simplicity that Prism provides is something of a dual-edged sword. It can be almost too simple at times. When there is an issue and something is really wrong, it can make it a little more difficult to track it down because the Prism interface is very limited for drilling down into those highly technical or highly complicated errors.""The main area where an improvement could be made would be the pricing.""Prism is not very user-friendly, particularly in its upgrade process, compared to vSAN."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "HPE had some other solutions, but they were actually quite expensive to buy. So, when OneView came along, it was kind of reasonable in terms of price for licenses, etc."
  • "Use it. It is free."
  • "I am happy with the price."
  • "HPE could lower the price."
  • "I think that the price of OneView is $500 USD per server, which is a little high."
  • "The solution is free to use, but if you want the management aspect you require a virtual machine such as C7000 or Synergy which require licenses."
  • "Synergy does not require iLO licenses but servers and enclosures must be purchased."
  • "This license cost for OneView was $3,000 USD."

  • "A lot of my customers complain about the price of renewals, so I think that this can be improved."
  • "Compared to VMware, the price of this solution is great."
  • "Nutanix Prism is priced better than some of the competing solutions."
  • "This product is cheaper than using VMware."
  • "The license we bought for Nutanix Prism is perpetual, so once you have it, you can keep on using it. It's a three-year license that's paid one time. The license we have covers the three-node cluster."
  • "The license for Prism is costlier than other VMs."
  • "We have spent a lot of money on the Nutanix solution with Prism. Yet, for this amount of money we could be buying high-end storage with a lot of IOPS and bandwidth, even more than with Nutanix."
  • "Nutanix have bundles for pricing. On a single bundle, we get everything including vSAN or VMware and there are no additional costs. It is just a single license that is needed."
