We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

"Overall, the solution is very good. It's easy to use and simple to handle many actions, such as VM cloning, testing, and prediction.""The patching is the most valuable feature. We spent a lot of time and effort on the patching of our SQL instances after hours. With Nutanix Era, you can schedule and automate them during your normal operational hours (during the day). You schedule all the patching, then everything happens automatically with minor tickets from the engineer. So, our patching, which took four hours, went down to an hour for the engineer. This is much better for us from a return on investment perspective.""The Time Machine is the most valuable feature for us. Using it means that we don't have to take regular snapshots, yet we are still able to restore the database quickly in the event of a problem.""It has wizards that are very helpful in the installation, and it handles automation as well as virtualization once deployed.""One feature that is very good is the backup and validation process that's built into Era.""We have an enterprise-level backup product that we're required to use, so we don't rely on Era's version. [But] it could be an awesome first-line backup. It's very elegant the way they designed it. It's quick and it doesn't take up nearly as much storage space as traditional backups. It would definitely help to save on tier-one storage.""It has some very good features. It really works with multiple silos in terms of infrastructure, database updates, and migration. So many things are easy with Era."

"There are a number of different user interfaces you can choose from.""The product gives us as much control as we can have by providing a complete picture of the whole set of Oracle products.""Due to the infrastructure's size, the introduction they offer is very, very useful. It helps with an overall understanding of the product.""The 13cR2 updates to the OEM family, strongly integrate Cloud (off-site, hybrid and on-premise) services providing a seamless way to see all of your resources regardless of where they are deployed.""We use it extensively for performance tuning testing, monitoring, and configuration.""SQL Tuning Advisor, ADDM, Top Activity, ASM Space Manager, Incident Notifications""The most valuable features are security and speed.""It is the best monitoring tool for Oracle databases."

"Their support is helpful, but maybe they need more technical staff. Their response was slow once, but that was the only time it happened, so I'm not sure.""The solution needs to improve compatibility with other back-ups and products.""If there were data integration services included with the platform then it would be interesting, and it would help us a lot.""The initial setup was a little tedious and complex. If they could make the setup slightly more user-friendly, then that would definitely be beneficial. If they could give a clear indication of what ports are required across the business and multiple VLANs, then your prep work can be done beforehand and before you do the actual installation. Because the documentation that was provided was not 100 percent accurate, so we had to do a lot of custom firewall rules after we deployed Nutanix Era.""The patching should be a one-button function. Also, it works about 80 percent of the time, but 20 percent of the time it requires manual intervention. And sometimes, until you understand the technical underpinnings of that process, you can't fix it. I thought we would move past that. In the last version, they broke a big chunk of that for me, and that's why I'm waiting for the new release because they promised me it would fix the problem.""The updating of the database engine is something that can be improved. For example, assume that we are using PostgreSQL out of the box, and it is version 10. If we want to migrate to version 11, 12, or 13, then it is not very easy to do that using Nutanix Era.""Patch management is an issue as it regularly causes stability problems."

More Nutanix Era Cons »

"The solution is considered expensive.""Reporting and statistical charting is largely still left up the end-user to develop custom solutions.""Patching. It's extremely difficult to determine what requires patching and the process to patch each component is slightly different.""The product is pretty comprehensive, but quite resource hungry. This might be due to the majority of the application seemingly being written in Java.""In my experience, the monitoring could be improved.""The user interface is not very interactive. It needs improvement.""We would like to have a single dashboard for monitoring and controlling all of our products.""There's a lot of documentation to go through as a new user."

Pricing and Cost Advice
"Era is quite expensive. The thing that will be a showstopper for them in the long run is if you look at it from a technical perspective on what it provides and weigh it up against consolidation of multiple other software suites.""The licensed-based pricing is confusing and too high.""Licensing costs will be the main scalability problem.""There are no costs in addition to the standard licensing fees.""It's priced fairly... It's a good value. When you go looking for something from Oracle that automates things and makes your life easier, it's always going to be a minimum of $500,000. Era's nothing like that."

More Nutanix Era Pricing and Cost Advice »

"There is only the standard licensing fee. There are no other costs.""Be careful to only enable the packs for which you have a license as this is an issue we see time and again.""Evaluate your requirements carefully. Elaborate DR and HA setup of OEM can become expensive.""It's expensive.""Based upon 3 days of implementation by a single person, plus licensing costs would be approximately $60,000, including the virtualized hosts.""There are a few bugs with the software which require opening SRs with Oracle Support which contribute to the day-to-day cost. Perhaps 8 hours per month is spent dealing with support, just as a rough guess.""The solution is inexpensive to purchase.""We are satisfied with the pricing."

For example, you must address the concerns of corporate compliance auditors one minute, and the next minute, deal with end users who signed up for cloud services without consulting you first. So, what are you to do?

Not to worry! Oracle provides a single solution for managing both situations. Oracle Enterprise Manager provides a “single pane of glass” that allows you to manage on-premises and cloud-based IT using the same familiar interface you know and use on-premises every day.
