We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The duplication algorithm allows us to get a lot more use out of less storage. We're running a five terabyte array right now and we're running probably about 30 terabytes on it. So the duplication rate is pretty phenomenal, without a cost to performance. It still runs pretty smoothly.""The initial setup was extremely simple and straightforward.""The Pure1 component is most valuable at this point in time when comparing it with EMC. Pure1 is where you can have your diagnostics in the cloud, so you can look at things from your mobile phone.""Overall stability is very good. It is a very stable solution.""Technical support has been helpful and responsive.""The system allows for seamless learning experiences, facilitating quick and easy cloning of environments within minutes.""It is very easy to install and configure. It has got excellent diagnostics. If you really need to see how the box is performing, the console gives you a lot of information. You can set thresholds as well as alerts based on the thresholds, which is a very powerful functionality. They are very proactive. They know how to monitor and manage the systems. They see a problem, and they are all over it before us. They see the problem before we see it, which is very good.""Pure FlashArray X NVMe will quickly overcome all the hurdles you face, including network and latency issues."

"The machine installed without difficulty.""We like the way the Reduxio is designed, the way the managing/operating end is just so much easier; fewer steps, more intuitive steps. It has a number of features baked into it that, in other products, are additional licensed components, like compression and dedupe.""The machine has been easy to use.""We are enjoying a quantum leap in speed, reliability, and available space with this system.""We are able to recover to the second, if needed, our data. This greatly improves restore capability, for example, if there is a cryptolocker outbreak or data loss.""We were also pleased to learn that Reduxio also has, beside dedup and compression that actually works, the "time machine" built in, which allows you to go back a few seconds or a few minutes before a ransomware attack gets you.""In terms of ease of use, the GUI is quite amazing and seems to be taken from a computer game. Literally within 30 minutes, we had learned almost everything there is on the management UI and started managing the device.""Efficiency of data management (Tier-X tiering, and NoDup inline dedupliclation and compression) provide for quick response time (+150k IOPS) during regular usage."

"Stability-wise, I rate the solution a ten out of ten.""The scalability and being able to implement it quickly.""If you buy the solution for its specific purpose it will work well.""The dashboard is such that you don't need to be a storage expert to administer it.""If we get complaints about any kind of performance metric issues, whether it's storage related or something on the virtual side, we use it to pinpoint what the actual issue is.""SolidFire is one of the products that does have great APIs right out-of-the-box. It works great. The tools and the other stuff seem to work a little better right out-of-the-box than the ONTAP stuff does, C-Mode.""We can just buy them, scale them as we need on demand, and we don't have to spend so many front end cycles on designing the architecture.""The most valuable feature is the performance, as well as how you manage performance on the system."

Cons
"Efficiency improvements would always be welcome, but I'm not sure if they could get more efficient.""There is room for improvement in catering to midrange storage needs, especially for customers seeking Enterprise-class features.""We've seen that when we create a POD in synchronous mode, it increases the latency.""We would like to see more visibility into garbage collection and CPU performance in the GUI.""In terms of what needs improvement, the dashboard and management could be simplified.""We need better data deduplication.""Every time I think of something that needs to improve, they're one step ahead, which I love. The only area I wish to see improve, I believe is coming, is in the FlashBlade product. Blade implementation fell short on a few of the services.""It's more multi-tenant functionality in their Pure1 manage portal that is lacking."

More Pure FlashArray X NVMe Cons →

"The only thing that I would point out would be the basic administration management of the machine. Everything has rights, meaning that there's either all control or no delegated control. So to sum that up, it would be a feature request for delegated management in the administrative console.""I am waiting for the vSphere Plug-In with individual VM level control.""The only thing that I'd like to see, at some point in time, is having the storage array being able to detect a ransomware attack. When you get hit by a ransomware it rewrites every block in your guest's virtual machine. So there should be a way for them to be able to detect that: "Hey, this is unusual, to see every block of this guest being rewritten all at one time," and then flag that as potential malware or ransomware.""Would love to have role-based access and an active directory integration.""I would love an iPhone app to monitor my system from outside the firewall.""t would be helpful to have a mobile app to monitor the storage array remotely.""We had a single failure of the device but believe that it was tied to the server losing contact with our NTP server due to DNS issues. As Reduxio is very time-dependent, losing sync made the entire array unstable.""They're trying to do this, but they need to show more what their growth plan is, the development, what the next steps are, the future."

More Reduxio [EOL] Cons →

"The upgrade process could be better.""We had some false positives, power supplies failing, and that's really been about it. We had a couple of glitches during some upgrade processes but nothing that was really concerning to us.""The scalability of HCI or SolidFire as such isn't a concern, but when you compare it to PowerMax or NetApp AFF series devices, scalability is a concern because it's only the drives that are connected to the nodes. We don't have any shelf connectivity.""So feature-wise, I would say more reporting tools that could be merged into it.""I would like to see integration with the cloud, number one. Being able to spin SolidFire in the cloud.""A little better segregation of the multi-tenancy. Right now, it's just VLAN-specific, that's all you can do.""When you set up the nodes, we have to serial into each one of these nodes to configure the IP ranges. It's still very easy, but it's time consuming.""It's a very good Windows-type solution. But we do a lot of legacy systems and the like. So it's getting that incorporated into it that would help us."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "With Pure Storage, we would like to continue seeing price reductions with flash storage. I don't think we're any different than anybody else when we continue to look to the industry for price reductions of both NVMe and traditional SSD storage. We would like to see these prices continue to decline and erode, even displacing large spinning disks."
  • "We pay approximately $50,000 USD per year in licensing fees."
  • "With VMware, we pay $300,000 annually."
  • "Our licensing fees are $500,000+ USD."
  • "As far as the licensing costs, everything is included in the license."
  • "They can tout the functionality and cutting edge technology that they have, but that's where the price tag comes in. The cost is high, but I think as they grow their business and get more customers that it will probably go down a little bit."
  • "Its price could be better. It is not too expensive, but it is the high-end cost. It is kind of a Rolls-Royce. You pay a lot, but you get a lot out of it. So, the price pressure on the way down would be great, but at the end of the day, if you need to do the work, you just pay for it."
  • "The licensing is on a yearly basis."

  • "Setup and licensing are included in the solution cost."
  • "They have very competitive pricing and were able to work within our budget constraints as a public school."
  • "They are very competitive in pricing, so I would definitely recommend Reduxio."
  • "For less money than my previous solution, I receive way more performance and backup features that far surpass anything on the market."
  • "All of their new features that were released following our purchase are free of charge. For example, we are about to upgrade getting cloud integration for free."
  • "Depending on your cost of data loss, one ransomware or accidental deletion could pay for a Reduxio appliance."
  • "It was the best price for capacity and speed on a hybrid array I could find."
  • "I think it is worth the value."
  • More Reduxio [EOL] Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "We would probably use SolidFire more, except we're getting more bang for our buck with our purchases of ONTAP right now, and the deal we made with NetApp, so it's more of just a cost decision"
  • "The price of this solution is more expensive than others."
  • "Based on what I heard from other people, its price was on the higher side."
  • "On a scale where one is a high price and ten is a low price, I rate the solution between three and four. It is an expensive solution."
  • "It might be considered expensive, but when evaluating performance, it represents good value online because you pay for what you get."
