Quotes From Members Comparing Riverbed SteelCentral AppInternals vs SiteScope

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
Transaction Tracing is the most useful. Being able to have the transaction stitched together so we can see where the problem is has proven invaluable. The capability of analysing each individual transaction captured to a very low level detail (method call/line of code). We just control on the backend of AppInternals what we want to instrument and what we don't want to instrument. The product is very useful to find problems in middleware for the application servers, especially agent instrumentation and management is user friendly.

SiteScope has built-in flat file DB, hence it removes the dependency of an external DB for higher stability.Has a simple setup. It can be up and running within hours. It can monitor over a 100 technologies with built-in solution templates. The Monitor Templates functionality allowed us to spin up monitoring with .csv files pretty easily.Simplest tool for monitoring servers, web content, databases and other hardware. Its dashboard is really good.Simple deployment: The deployment uses protocols such as NetBios, SSH, WMI, SNMP, which means that any device with any of these protocols will be monitored. It's easy to template standard monitoring configurations, and automate monitoring configuration. It's a very flexible product so you can run a script out of it, even straight out of the box.

Cons
Support for PHP, DB and other applications need to be supported. They should find a way for report generation from TTW to run quicker. We have put in a request as an enhancement that we would like to search for items. If we're searching for a URL and we want to know was it a get or was it a post. The admin dashboard could be easier as it takes a little bit of time to get used to it.

Direct integration with an SMS gateway for sending critical alerts to the support SME. This will help customer investing in third party middleware solutions for SMS.They have not kept up with browser security requirements or advances in GUIs, they switched to a corruptible database architecture instead of text config files. They should provide more templates for new vendor devices. It could be more reliable using a database repository instead of a log repository.Full application functionality available via the API. There are some functions you can perform managing monitors, that are only available through the UI.More out of the box Cloud integration and capabilities.

Pricing and Cost Advice
The licensing model for v9 is better where it is an individual license per server, while v10 licenses are per JVM/ .NET and server instance. The latter model appears to be the model that other APM vendors are using. The licensing model is expensive compared to its competitors, but the service it gives to your business, and the data quality, means that it's worth it.

SiteScope licensing can be node based-or monitor-based. I would recommend for node-based licensing. You have to pay for their "solution templates". Other tools do not charge you for knowledge-based monitoring bundles.Depending on your requirements, there are two licensing models available. A simple point model, or an endpoint model.
