The initial setup is really straightforward. It is similar to a plug and play setup. We have an on-premise deployment.

It was complex. The first few that we got were tough, and sometimes, they still can be tough. It has definitely a steep learning curve. If you are an organization that has never used it before, it is going to be tough.

If you know what you're doing, you can get a switch done in a couple of hours. If you're new, it is going to take you days to weeks, depending upon how much you want to get it to work. So, it is kind of complex.

I use SecureCRT to configure all my switches, which replaces Putty and is made by VanDyke software. It is not that expensive and costs around $90. Using SecureCRT has made things easier for me, and it has really helped me with Juniper. If you're familiar with Putty, it works really well. It gives you options to store all of your commands. So, when I'm building a new switch, I have all the commands that I normally use, such as the commands to set up the IP address or a route. I don't have to memorize the commands. I can just double-click the set route command and then just change a variable.

The initial setup is very simple and very straightforward. Compared to other switches, it is not that difficult.

For Juniper switches, we have only three hours of downtime. In a three-hour downtime, we successfully managed to handle everything. Even managing VLANs, and tagging the VLANs and LAGs. All the things were done in three hours and we had everything configured properly.

It's moderate, not very easy, not very difficult. The terminology is sometimes different. You are following their proprietary standards, EtherChannels, and you can say security channels as well. These are not related to other switching technologies. They have some other proprietary things you need to know about in order to implement it easily.

I'd rate the overall process a three or four out of five in terms of ease of deployment.

We don't have to deal with maintenance. That's done on the vendor side when we have any issue, for example, the code is not working, the SFP is not working or we have issues from their upgrades. If a permission is required, we'd take action accordingly. We need to have a recommendation from the principal if we are going to upgrade the software. When that happens we require some support from the vendor side.

I rate the product's initial setup phase a seven or eight on a scale of one to ten, where one is a difficult setup process, and ten is an easy setup phase.

The product's deployment phase can be done by one person from our company and one external person.

The solution can be deployed in a few days.

The complexity of the initial setup can vary depending on whether they are cloud-based or on-premise. The process for cloud deployment is faster than on-premise. It takes a few minutes to complete. We use the Zero-Touch deployment method. The executives have to connect the cables, and it is implemented automatically.

You just need to copy and paste the template. We do not follow automatic configuration but copy it to the environment. However, the configuration commands are long compared to Cisco. It's not an issue since it is just copy and paste. You need one person to handle the product's deployment.

The setup process of the Juniper EX Series can be relatively simple if you have the Juniper Mist with Wired Assurance tool. However, if you do not have this tool, it may take some additional research and familiarity with the platform to properly configure it.

The setup process for the Juniper EX series is entirely done through the command-line interface, there is no user-friendly setup wizard available. The configuration requires running specific commands to get it to function.

The initial setup is not complex. It is usually easy. It depends. If you understand the concepts of working with the product — if you already have some experience with it — it is easy to work with it. But if you do not have the experience and do not get the concept, it might seem to be unfriendly. If you can work with it a little and get the concept of how it works and how you should configure it, then it becomes a really friendly format.

I think it took about one week to configure and deploy the switches. Of course, sometimes we were not working just on that for a whole day, so the number of hours working just on that deployment is something I can not say exactly. But in about one week the deployment was complete. It could have been done faster if it were the only thing that we were concentrating on.

The solution's initial setup is straightforward. The deployment process for a new switch includes connecting and configuring it to the management port and other VLANs. Also, it depends on the specific requirements, including integrating VLAN for users, IPs, servers, authentication, etc. When the configuration is simple, it takes 30 minutes to complete. But when it involves configuring advanced features like QoS switches, it consumes more time. Also, the duration depends on the team of executives as well. If they have prior experience working with Juniper, it takes less time.

The product's initial setup phase is not complex. The setup phase was straightforward.

I only have experience with two clients who have used the product, but I have not directly deployed it for them.

During the product's deployment, the console needs to be connected to the laptops. The users also need to enter some CLI commands on the laptop for the switches from Juniper.

Though I am unsure, I feel the solution can be deployed in five to ten minutes.

Basically, if it is a large deployment involving lots of processes, the number of people required to deploy and maintain the tool will depend on the project and the number of switches. If you consider deploying a single switch, only one person is required to set it up. If you consider 500 switches, you must assign engineers to manage the switches and locations.

The installation of Juniper Ethernet Switches is straightforward because they have been in the industry for a long time. There are enough qualified resources available in order to go ahead and deploy them. Something is complex only when you don't have the skills required in order to execute the job. Otherwise, everything could be complex if you don't know the subject. The fact that it is easy is because there are enough trained resources available in order to execute the installation.
