We performed a comparison between Informatica PowerCenter, Oracle Data Integrator (ODI), and Pentaho Data Integration and Analytics based on real PeerSpot user reviews.
Find out what your peers are saying about Microsoft, Informatica, Oracle and others in Data Integration."It's very easy to use it to develop mappings and workflows."
"It has very good monitoring and process monitoring."
"The number of docs has been reduced drastically, which is very good."
"Informatica PowerCenter has been implementing mapping design, data flow, and workflow execution for years."
"Reusable definition of data sources and the out-of-the-box availability of a large number maplets for common transformation functions."
"The interface is very clean and clear."
"The most valuable aspects of Informatica PowerCenter are the many features, ease of use, and user-friendliness."
"Informatica PowerCenter is a very good ETL tool."
"Oracle provides great documentation."
"It can integrate with more recent databases like Cassandra, Hadoop, and other more recent Big Data databases."
"It's completely user-friendly."
"I do not have to maintain a separate ETL instance. I can change the SQL when something is not performing correctly."
"The most valuable features of ODI are the knowledge modules, such as the Loading Knowledge module and the Check Knowledge module, they are helpful. We can check for the constraints in ODI. That helps in figuring out what are the constraints that are the primary keys created in the tables. We can check them with the Check Knowledge module."
"The tool improved our data integration workflow primarily due to its compatibility with Oracle. Its integration makes it very convenient for analytics. Its most valuable feature is robust extended capability. The solution's debugging capabilities are good."
"The Knowledge Module approach provides an easy and reusable way to create our own integration strategies. It's easy to create these Knowledge Modules to connect to new technologies, for instance."
"ODI's most valuable features are it utilizes the database engine and is very lightweight."
"We're using the PDI and the repository function, and they give us the ability to easily generate reporting and output, and to access data. We also like the ability to schedule."
"This solution allows us to create pipelines using a minimal amount of custom coding."
"I absolutely love Hitachi. I'm one of the forefront supporters of Hitachi for my firm. It's so easy to integrate within our environments. In terms of being able to quickly build ETL jobs, transform, and then automate them, it's really easy to integrate throughout for data analytics."
"Pentaho Data Integration is quite simple to learn, and there is a lot of information available online."
"The solution has a free to use community version."
"It has improved our data integration capabilities."
"The way it has improved our product is by giving our users the ability to do ad hoc reports, which is very important to our users. We can do predictive analysis on trends coming in for contracts, which is what our product does. The product helps users decide which way to go based on the predictive analysis done by Pentaho. Pentaho is not doing predictions, but reporting on the predictions that our product is doing. This is a big part of our product."
"Provides a good open source option."
"There is a need to buy a separate license if one wishes to connect with some kind of SAP system, such as SalesForce."
"Integrating new tools can be tricky and challenging."
"I would like to see improvements made to the custom transformations. It should be more open for users that want to write their own code and use cases."
"PowerCenter has three clients. I wish they would consolidate everything into one GUI, not three. Also, we had a persistent issue with the Informatica Developer tool but it was solved when we migrated to the newest one."
"The documentation could be improved."
"It would be nice to have all tools in one place. CDC needs more effort, as it's only easy to develop if you are familiar with Linux."
"The solution must improve the integration with new services."
"Lacks ability to calculate cost of the product."
"Stability could be improved because some operators have issues."
"It lacks a suite of tools suitable for fully processing data and moving it into decision support warehouses."
"Technical Support could be better."
"An area for improvement in Oracle Data Integrator (ODI) is real-time integration. Currently, my company has a workaround to implement real-time integration, an area on which Oracle must focus more. Real-time integration should be easier in Oracle Data Integrator (ODI). Another area for improvement in Oracle Data Integrator (ODI) is integration with more publishers and subscribers rather than just database integrations."
"It needs easier security."
"I would only point out some minor bugs or glitches in the development interface (ODI studio)."
"The initial setup is complex, especially if you also have to install a console."
"I rate it a seven out of 10 because there is room for growth because ODI is still new, in comparison to Informatica, which is a mature product."
"One thing that I don't like, just a little, is the backward compatibility."
"The product needs more plugins."
"It could be better integrated with programming languages, like Python and R. Right now, if I want to run a Python code on one of my ETLs, it is a bit difficult to do. It would be great if we have some modules where we could code directly in a Python language. We don't really have a way to run Python code natively."
"I would like to see more improvements with AS400 DB2."
"There is not a data quality or MDM solution in the Pentaho DI suite."
"A big problem after deploying something that we do in Lumada is with Git. You get a binary file to do a code review. So, if you need to do a review, you have to take pictures of the screen to show each step. That is the biggest bug if you are using Git."
"The performance could be improved. If they could have analytics perform well on large volumes, that would be a big deal for our products."
"Its basic functionality doesn't need a whole lot of change. There could be some improvement in the consistency of the behavior of different transformation steps. The software did start as open-source and a lot of the fundamental, everyday transformation steps that you use when building ETL jobs were developed by different people. It is not a seamless paradigm. A table input step has a different way of thinking than a data merge step."
