We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The solution is very stable.""From my own experience, if you're talking about load testing and performance testing then definitely you should go for CloudTest. Because when we compared CloudTest with Performance Center, cost wise it was a better solution. It is easy to use as well, and you can definitely get an automation engineer or a performance engineer with very little exposure to any programming or scripting language such as JavaScript. I would definitely recommend this solution and would rate it at eight on a scale from one to ten.""The level of support is quite good and the integration is also very flexible.""This is an awesome performance testing tool for web based applications, able to generate load multiple geographies, dynamic ramp-up to any levels of virtual users."

"It is feature-rich. It supports most protocols, which is important because I am in charge of a team at the bank, and we do performance testing for all kinds of different applications. We have tons of them. We even do video streams.""The TCO has been optimized along with the total ROI.""The solution is easy to use.""The initial setup was straightforward.""The solution can scale.""The most valuable feature is that you can create an infrastructure on-demand and do performance testing with it.""The most valuable feature is the ability to configure browser settings for different operating systems and on different versions without the need to install every single version on each machine and to manage them.""The most valuable feature is that we do not have to accommodate the load-testing infrastructure in our own data center."

More OpenText LoadRunner Cloud Pros →

"The licensing cost is very less for NeoLoad. It is user-friendly and easy to understand because they have created so many useful functionalities. When I started working with this tool, we just had to do the initial assessment about whether this tool will be able to support our daily work or not. I could easily understand it. I didn't have to search Google or watch YouTube videos. In just 15 to 20 minutes, I was able to understand the tool.""From a functional perspective, the range of tools provided with Tricentis NeoLoad is perhaps the widest.""The best feature of the solution is that we can utilize the Tosca scripts for NeoLoad execution.""We appreciate that this solution is very user-friendly, even if the user does not have a lot of protocol knowledge and experience.""The most valuable feature is the ability to execute parallel requests, unlike JMeter and LoadRunner which can only be run sequentially.""The stability is okay.""Very easy to use the front end and the UI is very good.""NeoLoad is best tool for testing in production without making many changes to the script or solution."

Cons
"Akamai cloud test integration into our current CI/CD pipelines (i.e.) identify and resolve the issues during the sprint phase which helps in delivering an absolute product and reduces time to market/release.""In terms of improvement, I think integration of these tools with the leading EPM tools would be good. It would help to seamlessly integrate to Dynatrace or AppDynamics to understand what the profiling looks like when generating a load.""The test clip should be more user-friendly.""It's a manual process to whitelist respective internal IPs in coordination with web operations team to access Soasta. Availability of any standardized tool from Soasta will make setup process easy."

More Akamai CloudTest Cons →

"I'd like to see more ability to dive more deeply into the configuration.""An area for improvement is analytics on why response times are slow from certain countries.""I would like for there to be better integration with other tools so that when you do load testing you can also do a security check.""The product must provide agents to monitor servers.""It should have a feature to report with a 99.9 percentile success rate.""There is a steep learning curve for the product, too.""We did have some challenges with the initial implementation.""Scriptless automation is an area that can be improved."

More OpenText LoadRunner Cloud Cons →

"NeoLoad can improve the correlation templates, which are specific to frameworks. There's room for improvement in that area.""NeoLoad does not support Citrix-based applications.""Some users may find NeoLoad too technical, while other users may prefer a scripting language instead of a UI with figures and forms they have to fill in.""Sometimes it's complicated to maintain the test cases. It's much easier than in JMeter, however. I'm not sure if this depends so much on NeoLoad, or is more based on the environment that we are testing.""Tricentis NeoLoad crashes if an application contains more than 1,000 scripts.""It needs improvements in the UI. It's currently not as friendly as it should be.""While importing the scripts from backup it should not create the new variables because it has created some issues for us.""Regular and strong support has to be made available by Tricentis during the solution's implementation and initial setup."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "Running cost is very low."
  • "We have a yearly license, and I would give it a rating of three out of five."

  • "The pricing is very reasonable and the licensing is straightforward."
  • "There is no monthly or yearly cost but rather, the fees are based on the amount of traffic that you use."
  • "We make use of virtual user hours. We buy time in the LoadRunner Cloud. It costs around $80,000."
  • "Pricing is dependent on what you're referring to. If you're talking about the cloud, it's likely competitive. However, if you're talking about the on-premise version, professional or enterprise licenses are required. Prices are on the high side. They are not cheap."
  • "The solution is expensive."
  • "It is expensive compared to other tools."
  • "LoadRunner always had expensive pricing. At my company, we used to evaluate LoadRunner, but we stuck with Silk Performer because its pricing was always better in the past. I do feel that I got a fair deal this time. Our value-added reseller and our sales guy worked hard to give us a fair deal. I feel that we got a fair deal. We did not go for the pay-as-you-go deal. I did an upfront package. I prefer that. I want to know what my costs are."
  • "The solution’s price is considerably high."

The six phases of an IT project Enthusiasm Disillusionment Panic Search for the guilty Punishment of the innocent (the performance tester) Praise and rewards for the incompetent non-participants This article has been put together as part of an evaluation of the performance test tools NeoLoad and LoadRunner. I consulted a variety of sources, including user groups, discussions with colleagues, telephone chats with HP (the vendors of LoadRunner) and Neotys (the vendors of NeoLoad), and of course the Oracle – Google. The opinions in this article are my own and do not represent the views of any particular company, the software vendors or any organisation (and I’ve assumed that readers have some knowledge of web application performance testing). The versions discussed in this article as of April 2014 are: LoadRunner 11.52 NeoLoad 4.2.2 I hope this evaluation and comparison will assist you with your own evaluation of LoadRunner and NeoLoad. Introduction LoadRunner and NeoLoad are considered the top two best performance testing tools on the market. Comparing the two tools is just like comparing a Mercedes Benz and a BMW: both are high performance, perfectly engineered machines that also have an associated prestige. Performance testing is a critical component of the software testing process. It determines the actual operational boundaries that will simulate the real world use of an application. Performance testing is load testing, stress testing and scalability testing. Why… Read more →
