Even we as a team in Yepme.com have been using Akamai and still find that we get low scoring in YSlow even after using their DSA, DSR etc. Also there image rendering services from edge servers is quite costly and leaves no scope for negotiation. The same applies to FEO in akamai.

Stable and scalable solution which offers good functionality once properly setup
Pros and Cons
  • "This solution can be used for web , video and media caching and streaming."
  • "Their support is very slow. If you file a support ticket, it takes a long time before it gets resolved."

What is our primary use case?

As a CDN we use this solution for web, video and media caching as well as for streaming.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have worked with this solution for 20 years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

This is a stable solution.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

This solution is scalable.

How are customer service and support?

Their support is very slow. If you file a support ticket, it takes a long time before it gets resolved.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was complex. This solution's features have expanded over time and require that settings are fine tuned for them to work properly. Although the setup is complex, the solution is good once set up is complete.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

This is a very expensive solution but it works well.

What other advice do I have?

It takes time to set up this solution to work. I would not recommend it for an on premises environment or if a client has a network of their own. In this instance I would recommend they build their own CDN instead of using a cloud CDN. This solution's suitability depends on a clients requirements.

I would rate it an eight out of ten.
