A good integration tool that is stable, but has a complex initial setup
Pros and Cons
  • "I have found the solution to be scalable."
  • "The product could be a little bit more user-friendly."

What is our primary use case?

I integrate Salesforce and some other third-party cloud platforms including payroll and stuff like that. I'm pushing data and making updates.

What is most valuable?

The solution is an integration tool. Based on changes in one place, I'm pushing out integration to other places to make updates, et cetera. Overall, it is a robust platform.

I have found the solution to be scalable.

The stability is very good.

What needs improvement?

The product could be a little bit more user-friendly.

The company needs to offer better documentation.

The initial setup is complex. It is what it is. You have to deal with it.

There's something missing with Salesforce platform events that they supposedly support, however, it doesn't work well with their cloud platform. It would be nice if they would get that working normally. They say they support it, and yet, it just fires multiple times. It's not reliable. You can't use it.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using the solution for about two years at this point.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution is quite stable. I don't deal with bugs or glitches. It doesn't crash or freeze. It's reliable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The scalability capabilities are pretty good.

There aren't a lot of users that have access to the product directly. The solution is really cordoned off, meaning it's working based off of changes in the system. Everybody's using the system and making changes, and then the integration kick gets kicked off. Working on the platform, making changes, that's very minimal work and that's just me and someone else.

Currently, we're on a pretty steady path. I can't speak to if there are plans to increase usage.

How are customer service and support?

I worked with people from their technical support on the initial onboarding. It's reasonable in terms of the amount of service they offer.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I did not previously use a different solution.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is very complex. It's not simple or straightforward.

I can't speak to how long deployment took, as it was handled by a third party.

There is just me and one other person that handles the maintenance aspect of the product.

What about the implementation team?

I use third-party people to get me set up and build-out, and that's what I continue to do. These third parties aren't resellers. They are freelancers.

What was our ROI?

The ROI flows. The integration is working. Our systems are able to talk to each other.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The cost of the solution is in the neighborhood of $20,000 annually. There are no costs above the standard licensing fee.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I did look at a few other options before choosing this product. I looked at Workado and Jitterbit.

What other advice do I have?

I'm just a customer and an end-user.

I would advise potential new users that they need to have some deep expertise on the Boomi platform to be able to successfully do what they want to do with it.

Out of ten, I'd rate the solution at a seven. It does the job well and it's robust, however, it is needlessly overcomplicated, and the documentation could be better.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Public Cloud

If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?

Stable platform with an easy initial setup process
Pros and Cons
  • "The platform is user-friendly."
  • "It is a costly platform. Its pricing could be better."

What is our primary use case?

We use the platform for SAP integrations.

What is most valuable?

The platform is user-friendly. It has the best features for building and deploying integrations.

What needs improvement?

It is a costly platform. Its pricing could be better.

For how long have I used the solution?

We have been using Boomi AtomSphere Integration as a customer for three years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It is a stable platform. I rate its stability a ten out of ten.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

We have three analysts using the platform. I rate its scalability a seven out of ten. It can be improved in terms of customization.

How was the initial setup?

The platform’s initial setup is straightforward. I rate its process a ten out of ten. We click a button, and a script automates the process. It takes less than an hour to complete.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I rate the platform’s pricing a ten out of ten. It is very expensive and based on connectors. Thus, we are looking for a low-cost solution with similar integration services.

What other advice do I have?

The platform is good. I recommend it to others. I advise others to go for it if the use case is heavy. They should prefer using other tools if there are just a few connections. The platform is not consumption-dependent but connector dependent.

I rate it an eight out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Hybrid Cloud

User-friendly, good documentation, and has lots of connectors to facilitate integration
Pros and Cons
  • "This solution has a user-friendly interface and very good documentation with solutions that helped us in working with the tool efficiently."
  • "Lots of enhancements are needed in the API portal so that the developers can view the definitions, try out the APIs, etc."

What is our primary use case?

We use this solution for creating the processes to interact with external ticketing applications by consuming the web services exposed.

Creating processes for these imported services for the online booking application by exposing the APIs to the front end UI (web, mobile, KIOSK ).

How has it helped my organization?

The user-friendly development interface and the native connections available eased our integration.

Expedited the process and enabled us to create APIs for the consumers.

We had challenges with security and API management, API portal testing, and we used Microsoft Azure to overcome that.

What is most valuable?

Atmosphere is the most valuable feature as there are a lot of out of box connectors that expedited out integration process.

This solution has a user-friendly interface and very good documentation with solutions that helped us in working with the tool efficiently.

Creating and exposing the API was also easy with limited features and scope for enhancements.

What needs improvement?

API management and security need improvement. It needs more capability on the API Administration like approval process, automated process, etc.

Lots of enhancements are needed in the API portal so that the developers can view the definitions, try out the APIs, etc.

Many features need to be added to the API analytics, with more drilled down analyses, and also on API security.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using this solution for more than four years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The product is very stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

May have to improve on the molecule clustering communication as the cluster seems to be having problems frequently. Otherwise, the solution is scalable.

How are customer service and technical support?

The technical support for this solution is very good.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

Prior to this solution, we used webMethods (Software AG). We implemented Boomi as it is an economical solution with many features such as integration with other products.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup of this solution was easy enough.

What about the implementation team?

We implemented this solution in-house.

What was our ROI?

Our ROI is more than 100%.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

This solution is very economical (based on the connections).

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

Before choosing this solution, we evaluated Software AG and Mulesoft.

What other advice do I have?

I would like to see dramatic improvements in API management so that the product suite can be on top.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

A platform used to build enterprise level integrations.
Pros and Cons
  • "The Salesforce and NetSuite Application specific “connectors” provide a layer of abstraction on top of the SOAP-based APIs to streamline integration development."
  • "There is no validation in the mapping profile custom scripting, such as IntelliSense or advanced error checking."

What is most valuable?

As a NetSuite application developer, Dell Boomi is a great integration platform to build enterprise level integrations in a quick and easy way.

The Salesforce and NetSuite Application specific “connectors” provide a layer of abstraction on top of the SOAP-based APIs to streamline integration development.

In a narrow sense, the most beneficial feature is the ability to quickly create request/response data model “profiles” to map and transform the data being integrated.

Profiles can be generated through the “import wizard” that is rather time consuming with other integration development platforms, or in a custom .Net application.

How has it helped my organization?

Using Boomi as our preferred integration platform has allowed us to more quickly develop, deploy, and maintain integration for clients. This is especially the case with NetSuite clients who are already familiar with the benefits of cloud-based business software applications.

What needs improvement?

Since the application is Java-based, custom scripting within the map data, used to transform shapes to handle more complex process, is lacking in some ways.

There is no validation in the mapping profile custom scripting, such as IntelliSense or advanced error checking.

If one wants to do custom scripts within a map shape, they must have knowledge of Groovy or JavaScript. Only Groovy has the ability to use Java-based libraries.

The scripting capabilities are lacking, in my opinion, based on the user experience. There is not much tooling assistance. There are no “helpers” or examples on how to do more advanced post/pre-processing of data.

For example, if I wanted to parse an XML document using XPath, how would I do that? How do I know the code that I write will compile without having to unit test through trial and error over and over again?

The IDE is lacking in the ability to script. So the biggest benefit of Boomi, being a graphical integration IDE, is a weakness in this sense. Also, you are locked into Groovy as the only language to do advanced scripting.

I’m used to writing code in my preferred IDE, Visual Studio. In VS, there are lots of tools to assist in the writing of scripts (even JavaScript) to have Intellisense and autocomplete help, which cuts down on development time, as well as code quality.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have used Dell Boomi for two years.

What was my experience with deployment of the solution?

The only issue we have had with performance is tied to the performance limits of the APIs being used, such as the NetSuite SuiteTalk API. This can be slow at times when querying large amounts of data in a start shape.

How are customer service and technical support?

Technical support, through support tickets and the Community Forum, is relatively responsive. Our organization has taken advantage of technical solution experts for our clients, since we are a partner/reseller of Boomi.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We have evaluated Jitterbit. We find Boomi much easier to use, since the AtomSphere IDE is more streamlined and intuitive.

The IDE runs completely in a browser and requires software on the user’s machine.

How was the initial setup?

There is no setup required to develop and manage integrations in Boomi.

What about the implementation team?

Our consulting practice delivers Dell Boomi integration projects to our clients as stand-alone or as a part of larger NetSuite implementations.

What was our ROI?

We recommend pricing/licensing based on the client’s needs and requirements.

What other advice do I have?

Since it is Platform as a Service (PaaS), we recommend that clients plan for future growth based on the type of licensing model they use.

Disclosure: My company has a business relationship with this vendor other than being a customer: We are a Referral Partner with Dell Boomi – especially for our clients running on NetSuite.

What is most valuable?

I like the tool's optimization feature.

What needs improvement?

Boomi AtomSphere Integration should scale up on the migration area.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using the solution for a month.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I rate Boomi AtomSphere Integration's stability a seven out of ten.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I rate the solution's scalability a six out of ten. My company has one to two users for the product.

How was the initial setup?

Boomi AtomSphere Integration's deployment took one month to complete.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Boomi AtomSphere Integration is expensive. I rate its pricing an eight out of ten.

What other advice do I have?

Boomi AtomSphere Integration is a good tool that offers ETL functionalities. I rate it a six out of ten.

Highly scalable, simple to install, and reasonably priced
Pros and Cons
  • "Low-code development is the most valuable feature."
  • "They are lacking in some streaming features, and messaging features from a listener's point of view."

What is most valuable?

Low-code development is the most valuable feature.

What needs improvement?

They have progressed from an ESP architecture, but they have not fully embraced all API design first methodologies. As a result, some features in those areas, such as API management, API gateway, API development, and API dashboards, are missing, but they are still a new product.

Better documentation and more know-how knowledge would be appreciated. When it comes to technical support and designing, they don't have that growth rate.

They are lacking in some streaming features, and messaging features from a listener's point of view.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Boomi AtomSphere Integration for approximately four years.

With the iPaaS integration, we are always using the latest version.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Boomi AtomSphere Integration is a stable product.

We experience a few issues but managed to get them stabilized.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The Boomi AtomSphere Integration is highly scalable.

We have 10 to 15 developers who use this solution, and it is used in over 200 applications.

We have plans to expand in the future.

How are customer service and support?

I believe they still have a long way to go before they can compete with the other products. They're quite helpful in support, but because the product releases so many bug fixes or port releases each month, some of them don't get tested or have issues, and the support team isn't aware of it. So we have to be very involved with them, but they are working hard to improve.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I've used.NET Web Services, Webmethods, and MuleSoft.

They have some advantages and disadvantages, but Boomi AtomSphere Integration stands out and outperforms the other products in terms of licensing and scalability.

From a licensing perspective, especially if you are on-premises, and then the cloud.

From a feature perspective obviously, MuleSoft and others have a bigger issue.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was easy.

It took a couple of hours to install.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

When it comes to pricing, it's not so much about being less expensive as it is about how they don't tie to the hardware on the underlined VMware that you run on, as other vendors do. It's one of the reasons you're able to grow.

What other advice do I have?

Before you choose a product, understand your integration and API design requirements, as well as the feature capabilities that are required.

I would rate Boomi AtomSphere Integration an eight out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

On-premises

A low-code solution that could benefit from more scripting possibilities
Pros and Cons
  • "Boomi AtomSphere Integration is stable."
  • "There should be more scripting possibilities."

What is our primary use case?

We use this solution as normal middleware — for transformation routing.

We have around 20-100 clients that use this solution.

What needs improvement?

There should be more scripting possibilities. Boomi is essentially low-code/no-code — it's very graphically oriented. If you wish to maintain it, then you'll require more scripting language.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Boomi AtomSphere Integration for roughly three years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Boomi AtomSphere Integration is stable.

How are customer service and technical support?

We have a tight relationship with Boomi. We get support from Boomi then pass it on to our clients. The support they provide us with is very good.

How was the initial setup?

Boomi is a cloud offering. You just need a subscription and you're ready to go.

What other advice do I have?

I would absolutely recommend this solution. Furthermore, I would recommend using DXC as your provider. Overall, on a scale from one to ten, I would give Boomi AtomSphere Integration a rating of seven.

Pros and Cons
  • "The product's integration features are quite rich and low code. It is easy to use."
  • "The product's UI could be more convenient."

What is most valuable?

The product's integration features are quite rich and low code. It is easy to use.

What needs improvement?

The product's UI could be more convenient. Its pricing needs improvement as well. They should add a source control feature and provide better integration with Azure DevOps.

For how long have I used the solution?

We have been using Boomi AtomSphere Integration for four years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The product is overall stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It is a scalable product.

How are customer service and support?

The technical support services are good in terms of diverse community support. However, there could be better on-the-ground technical support as well. They could provide more resources to tackle the issues.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

There could be an easy-to-understand licensing model.

What other advice do I have?

I rate Boomi AtomSphere Integration an eight out of ten. I advise others to get experience in product implementation from an account manager from a best practice point of view.
