Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The most valuable feature is the quick restoration. We can restore the data quickly.""The Acronis panel is user friendly and tracking backups across a number of different devices is great. Acronis provides prompts and reminders to users if certain files are not backed up.""The pricing is fine.""It makes a full image of the hard drive. If a hard drive fails, all we do is recover to another hard drive.""The most valuable feature is the fact that you can archive backups quite easily and minimize the amount of space you're using.""For me, the tool proved most valuable in scenarios where it offered easy setup, fast backups, and recognition of SQL logs on virtual machines.""Universal Restore is valuable to us.""It has simple buying options and deployments. You can buy on-cloud, on-premises, or hybrid solutions. Acronis Backup is very easy to deploy. It also does not consume much hardware. The administrator's tasks are very simple. It is very user friendly, and it also has good security features with low-level encryption and data encryption."

"There are many backup options available in this solution. For example, you are able to do backups of servers, email, OST files, and users. This is a complete backup solution which is very good.""It is easy to configure.""The backup is the most valuable feature. It also makes storage very easy.""The recovery part of the product is very good.""The product provides instant and virtual standbys.""It is very stable.""This product is extremely user-friendly and it is capable of performing large-scale archive/backup (five+ years worth). It is easy to store, maintain, and check backups.""It allows us to back up all the servers and centrally manage them."

Cons
"I needed tech support to straighten out an issue with cloud backup. I have troubleshooting to do with failed backups.""I would change the GUI a little to make it a bit more interactive. It should have a slightly more updated look, not something which looks like it was designed five years ago despite the fact it is easy to follow and very appealing.""Their support process can be quite lengthy...This is an area that needs improvement.""I believe that the next release should be easier to configure as this one is difficult to configure even the easiest of tasks.""The product would be better if they offered more integration capabilities.""In the span of six months, maintenance is done at least twice and you are told that it is coming up, with apologies for the inconvenience. It's a distraction, and it interferes with the backup schedule.""The backing up of virtual machines in VMware and Nutanix needs better integration and the performance of the solution needs improvement.""Acronis has some limitations on the cloud side."

More Acronis Cyber Protect Cons →

"They could work on their marketing approach. I don't see many people leveraging it.""A lot of their new technologies are not very good.""One of the biggest drawbacks of Arcserve UDP is that it does not have a single console, making it an area that needs to be considered for improvement.""In the most recent version of premium plus the replication has been removed, and it should re-added to the solution.""The solution can improve by allowing older versions to support the latest version of the OS.""Licensing can be quite difficult.""We could not go into granular details of retrieving backup information.""The solution can use a lot of bandwidth when the scheduling is not done, it should auto-schedule itself. For example, if there are 50 users connected in the network at 12 o'clock and the backup is not scheduled. At this time the network offices are going to have performance issues when it is doing a backup. Having a feature to auto-schedule a time when the network is not being used often would be beneficial."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "Doing what this is capable of doing, the cost of it is in line."
  • "Pricing is what it is. I don't shop around once I find a good solution. I insist they maintain ongoing support year after year for updates and tech support."
  • "I would say that at the pricepoint that it's at, it's definitely worth the money."
  • "It has already paid off itself in the first few months that we implemented it."
  • "When it comes to elements like cost, I think it is the only backup solution which has perpetual licenses, whereby you buy the license once and for all."
  • "I like the pricing, and that it is easy to use and has performed well. "
  • "Our licensing fees are on a yearly basis."
  • "The pricing is comparable to the newest solution available on the market, Altaro."
  • More Acronis Cyber Protect Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "I do not work with the pricing or licensing issues of the solution for our organization."
  • "We only have the maintenance of three standard UDP licenses. Each license is 50 Euro. There are some additional costs for the storage and software but it has nothing to do with the UDP."
  • "Normally our customers purchase the premium plus license, rather than the standard one, which provides more options."
  • "The price of this product is high and it should be lower."
  • "It is approximately $400 to purchase a virtual service outright."
  • "There is an annual license required for this solution and it is priced well."
  • "Pricing is most likely comparable."
  • "The retail fee is $1300 for a year for one server. Other than that, there is just the cost of your hardware."

I agree with @Syed Abid Hussain

Arcserve is a true DR / Ransomware enabled solution for all businesses and when compared apples to apples to other solutions, very affordable.  It is available in cloud, hybrid cloud and appliance, your choice.  Use the cloud solution and keep what you have if you like, or replace it all with ARCSERVE.

Is it good? I think it is underrated personally. Arcserve just received PC Editors choice, which isn't too shabby.  I've worked with Arcserve for a while and it is a "SET AND FORGET" solution when configured properly. I also know many who use it who only have issues due to misconfiguring the software. Never place it directly on your domain is a starter suggestion.

    Arcserve gives you:

    • Global deduplication

    • Direct-to-cloud backup

    • WAN-optimized replication

    • Agentless backup for VMware and Hyper-V

    • Backup of CIFS/NFS

    • Cross-platform Virtual Standby and Recovery

    • P2P, P2V, V2P and V2V migration

      What doesn't Acronis do?

    • It does not have integrated DR and backup appliances,

    • Not secured from ransomware and malware (Arcserve uses SOPHOS)

    • Limited to no tape support for devices

    • No agentless Nutanix AHV backup and support of Nutanix Objects

    • No support for Solaris / IBM AIX / HP-UX / FreeBSD / IBM System z

    • No SLA/RTO/RPO reports

    • Doe not have continuous availability and CDP

    • No Email archiving

So it truly depends upon what you are really looking for in a solution. I hope this helps.

Acronis is good but with very limited features also expensive.

Arcserve has more features like Integrated DR, ransomware security, malware detection. different backups support, multiple hardware support. Also, pricing is lower than Acronis.

if you need just backup service Acronis is good while Arcserve UDP is a full-fledged complete suite for small, medium & large-scale businesses.
