Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"One of the things that I do like about it is that it has a very good deduplication feature.""The ease of use is the best feature of the product.""I would recommend it if there is a general case.""Arcserve has a feature called virtual standby (VSB), which has been very helpful because I already have a hot standby copy of my critical infrastructure. If something breaks, I can spin up that virtual standby copy in less than five minutes and ensure that my data is available to everyone and that business continuity is maintained.""The most valuable feature is the duplication.""It allows us to back up all the servers and centrally manage them.""It is a very stable solution...It is a scalable solution.""This product is extremely user-friendly and it is capable of performing large-scale archive/backup (five+ years worth). It is easy to store, maintain, and check backups."

"I started off as a storage engineer and ended up owning Dell EMC Data Domain and Dell EMC NetWorker. I've not used any other backup solutions at this scale. Dell EMC NetWorker does what I need it to do, it's efficient.""NetWorker's most valuable feature is recovery, including the policy-based backups that can be configured.""It's easy to use.""The support for legacy products is very good.""The updated graphical interface is better than it used to be.""It can support many different versions, both newer and older.""The interface is user-friendly and can be used by the end-users.""The possibility of recovering up-to-the-moment data is very useful."

Cons
"I had an issue with Arcserve UDP during the failover and the secondary machine didn't get back online, even though it ran automatically. I faced the issue during a crisis situation. However, I haven't faced such a problem again.""The solution could improve by being more user-friendly. It can be difficult to assign destinations and choose which files and folders we need to back up. There are some aspects that are unclear.""We are looking at scaling up to the cloud and using immutable copies on the cloud. Arcserve UDP 8.0 does have the immutable feature supporting AWS, but I'm looking for multi-cloud support. So, I'm waiting for Arcserve to release that in the next release.""Its interface can be improved. I find it unintuitive.""The only problem with the solution is that when I change the drive capacity, it has to do a full backup. It's a problem when I have five servers to backup. When I only want to change the size of the drive, I have to do a full backup that can take one week.""I think that the price could still be a bit cheaper and I do not like that they have been purchased by Arcserve.""A lot of their new technologies are not very good.""The problem is just reliability. If the promises in the marketing material were realized in real life, it would be the perfect solution, but it's just the reliability issues."

More Arcserve UDP Cons →

"I would like to see the user interface improved, more documentation, faster support, and it could be easier to configure.""The support is an area with concerns where improvements are required.""There could be a possibility of constructing full backups from incremental data intelligently.""The user interface has to be improved""I haven't had a good experience with technical support. It takes them a very long time to resolve issues.""The licensing rules are difficult to navigate and understand.""In the next release, I would like to see better pricing and more integration with the other products in Dell EMC.""The user interface of this solution could be improved. It is not user friendly and is difficult to understand for new users. New users struggle to understand the logic."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "I do not work with the pricing or licensing issues of the solution for our organization."
  • "We only have the maintenance of three standard UDP licenses. Each license is 50 Euro. There are some additional costs for the storage and software but it has nothing to do with the UDP."
  • "Normally our customers purchase the premium plus license, rather than the standard one, which provides more options."
  • "The price of this product is high and it should be lower."
  • "It is approximately $400 to purchase a virtual service outright."
  • "There is an annual license required for this solution and it is priced well."
  • "Pricing is most likely comparable."
  • "The retail fee is $1300 for a year for one server. Other than that, there is just the cost of your hardware."

  • "Low cost is key."
  • "You have to buy the deduplication software separately from the license."
  • "It's approximate, but I believe we pay around $20-30,000 a month in licensing."
  • "The pricing of this solution is very good."
  • "If you purchase Avamar, NetWorker is free with Avamar, for one terabyte license capacity."
  • "It is excellent from the pricing point of view. It is free with Data Protection Suite. Similarly, when you purchase Avamar, Dell EMC NetWorker is free with one terabyte license capacity. Its price is very competitive."
  • "The price is a little on the high side, but it's reliable and provides a good service."
  • "It is not very expensive and not very cheap."
