Quotes From Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros
"For me, the initial setup was easy and straightforward, but for some of our customers who are not as familiar with networking, it can be complicated.""A stable product that is absolutely dependable.""This is a great solution for network switching and security.""The technical support is good and they respond quickly. I haven't had any problems.""The most valuable feature is the complete functionality, but the most important thing is support.""The queue functionality is the solution's most valuable feature, specifically because we are delivering a lot of Layer 2 services. Layer 2 protocol tunnels work well on Cisco switches.""One valuable feature is that you can string a number of switches together, and the fact that there are various methods to connect them, such as by stacking.""The command-line interface is easy to use."

"The most valuable feature is that you can do anything on all platforms.""The radius and wireless features are the most valuable aspects of the solution.""The cost and versatility are the solution's most valuable features. You can do anything with them if you know how to. The solution has a whole portfolio of routing features available.""The most valuable feature is controlling the bandwidth.""We have found this solution is quite robust and there are a lot of features in a small device.""The flexible IP firewall and IP network address translation make it very easy to give access to internal services.""The best part about MikroTik Routers is the price.""We're very happy with what we are getting out of the solution in general. The features are good. They're comparable to other brands such as Cisco and HP."

Cons
"The dashboard needs some minor improvements.""The product could improve in the area of simulated switches.""Technical support for integrations with other network products is insufficient and should be improved.""This may be something that they are already working on, but it would be an improvement if they could add a layer of security to layer two and layer three to protect the server and to protect the data.""Pricing could be lower.""The solution needs to work on lowering the amount of bugs. We find them quite regularly.""Switches should be made stackable, even if they are not of the same model.""The licensing needs to be improved."

"Wireless throughput has not kept up with the competition.""The queuing functionality needs improvement. The initial setup could be simplified.""They could improve their product if they set, for instance, a controller for wireless LAN. That would allow them to really have something more than an access point.""The user interface allows you to do a lot of things, but it is not user-friendly.""In the Israeli market, we are in need of Hebrew support.""I would like to see a cluster feature added, where multiple devices can be configured and managed as one. One is in a standby state while the other is active, and if one fails then the other takes over.""The biggest thing that needs improvement is the support.""The solution's website isn't that good. When I go to it, I can't find what I'm looking for. However, if I go to a third party's website, I can easily find the information."

Pricing and Cost Advice
"Not inexpensive. Price will vary widely depending on the chosen product and size of the deployment.""Pricing for this product is high but the cost is worth it if you can afford it.""The pricing is reasonable, and for small business it is acceptable.""The price of this solution is good.""This is an expensive solution, but you are paying for stability.""The last time I bought a 24-port switch, which was a while ago, I paid about five or six thousand Euros. In this part of the world, that's quite expensive for us.""These switches are expensive, but they are an excellent buy and definitely have value for the investment.""We are happy with the pricing from Cisco."

"This product is a one-time purchase.""In our last project, we used two hundred units and the price was approximately 500 Shekels ($140 USD).""There is no licensing fee in addition to the hardware, but we do pay an annual fee for support.""This product is cheaper than competing products by other vendors.""There are not any external or hidden costs.""The price-performance is great.""MikroTik is very cost-effective and quite good for the price. It performs very well. For one of our customers, the existing setup comprises Cisco Catalyst switches, and it is about 10 to 15 years old. We're looking into upgrading in a cost-effective way to get the performance and yet still be at par with the quality and expectations that customers have from Cisco. Price-wise, Cisco is really expensive, and customers are expecting something different than Cisco so that they can save on IT costs. They don't have the same budget that they had before when they installed Cisco products. That's why they're looking for a solution that can provide performance and features without too much money or investment. We're looking at some alternative brands, such as NETGEAR and MikroTik, to support our proposal.""The main reason we use this solution is for the price — it's very cheap."
