We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros
"What we love about the Cisco switches is that they are very reliable. You can deploy them and go to sleep, and you can be sure that nothing is going to go wrong. Our initial equipment was installed by a Chinese manufacturer named Fiberhome a couple of years ago. Their switches were called S engines. They worked, but some days, you just wake up, and the switch has popped up. It was a lot of crisis. Therefore, we are in the process of trying to take out all their switches and replace them with Cisco switches. We are getting good results in terms of reliability and even technical support.""These switches are both stable and scalable.""This product is widely available and the warranty is very good.""The product offers very good customer support. It's likely the best in the industry.""I think the VMA architecture is valuable.""What I like the most is the performance and the latency that Cisco provides.""The procedures and handling of these switches are easy.""In terms of most valuable feature, I would say the user interface."

"This solution is easy to configure and it's very flexible.""We have not had any downtime with it. It has been a solid performer that way.""This is a good solution.""I like MikroTik's GUI. It's completely handy and easy to handle because of its GUI. Despite other brands like Cisco urging me to switch, I didn't because they don't have a GUI. This is the most comfortable thing in my project that anyone can use easily. It's effortless to maintain MikroTik routers because both screens make it very easy in GUI mode. You can easily interact with your hardware.""The stability is good.""It's very user-friendly.""We've enjoyed the fact that it has very good performance.""The flexible IP firewall and IP network address translation make it very easy to give access to internal services."

Cons
"The price could be improved by being reduced.""Cisco could definitely work on delivering improved pricing to its customers.""Better manageability and ease of use would be an improvement.""The NX-API REST is not very good and should be improved.""Technical support in India needs to be improved.""I would like for the solution to have more more security features and be more user-friendly.""We are less in the Cloud because the Cloud technologies didn't work so well. That happened in all of the companies where I've been engaged.""The pricing should be reduced so that they are more competitive."

More Cisco Ethernet Switches Cons »

"They should improve technical support and make direct access available to the customers.""The CPU load is too high. This causes the Internet to lag.""It could be more scalable. Product awareness could also be better. There's a lack of awareness when it comes to MikroTik. People only know about Cisco and others, and they won't rely on MikroTik. This is primarily because of hardware limitations. While this product is good economically, it's unsuitable for high-end projects. In the next release, I want this product to be more compatible.""It is slow, old and unfriendly.""MikroTik does not have a wireless solution. If they created a high-performance wireless solution we would deploy it in our infrastructure.""Better security is always better. If they can continue to improve in this area, that would be ideal.""I would like to see a cluster feature added, where multiple devices can be configured and managed as one. One is in a standby state while the other is active, and if one fails then the other takes over.""It would be very good if these products are accessible via different kinds of shells and GUI. It will make these solutions very usable."

Pricing and Cost Advice
"It is very expensive.""It could be cheaper.""In some of the latest switches, the warranty is not included in the pricing and we have to purchase it separately.""It's a little expensive.""Cisco now has more products that are priced for small businesses, so they do have some cheaper models.""I pay a fixed price on it. I'm not the person on the pursing, so I don't really compare.""There are different licensing based on the model of the solution.""Cisco is an industry leader, but the price is very high."

More Cisco Ethernet Switches Pricing and Cost Advice »

"MikroTik's equipment is very cheap compared to Cisco and Huawei.""There is no licensing fee in addition to the hardware, but we do pay an annual fee for support.""MikroTik is very cost-effective and quite good for the price. It performs very well. For one of our customers, the existing setup comprises Cisco Catalyst switches, and it is about 10 to 15 years old. We're looking into upgrading in a cost-effective way to get the performance and yet still be at par with the quality and expectations that customers have from Cisco. Price-wise, Cisco is really expensive, and customers are expecting something different than Cisco so that they can save on IT costs. They don't have the same budget that they had before when they installed Cisco products. That's why they're looking for a solution that can provide performance and features without too much money or investment. We're looking at some alternative brands, such as NETGEAR and MikroTik, to support our proposal.""Pricing is not an issue.""The price-performance is great.""The pricing is very reasonable and is one of the main selling points for MikroTik devices.""When I compare the price of this solution to competitors it is priced a little high. There is not a license required for this solution.""There is a one-time license fee for the use of this solution and it is less expensive than Cisco products."
