Q&A Highlights
Question: Which solution do you prefer: CrowdStrike Falcon or SentinelOne Singularity Complete?
Answer: You should do a test with both solutions for your client. Technically both solutions should perform very well but no one can tell which platform is more "you". That said, the main difference is Overwatch where security staff from CrowdStrike does some threat hunting on your tenant (and that is pricey because there are actual persons doing something for you). S1 does that kind of work only in the fully managed version. But of course, try to hire someone to do that for you. You will have to pay hefty IF you get one to hire in the first place. All other things feature-wise are quite the same with one more well-rounded as the other but what is something one can only tell for themselves. We did a test with both products and we liked CrowdStrike Falcon more. Previous to the test we were leaning more towards S1. But that is what the test installation is for. Get comfortable with a product by trying it out. No one can speak better for the product but the product.

Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"Microsoft 365 Defender is simple to upgrade.""It has been great for us. Previously, we didn't have a solution to protect us, especially from malware, whereas now, we are getting protection up front, especially from the malware attacks coming through emails or endpoints.""The most valuable feature is probably the aggregation and correlation of the different telemetry points with Defender for Identity, Defender for Endpoint, and Defender for Cloud Apps. All of these various things are part of that portal. We've wanted that single pane of glass for years.""I like that it's stable. It's been stable for a long time, and Microsoft Defender has done a good job there.""Microsoft 365 Defender's most valuable feature is the ability to control the shadow IP.""The product integrates security into one tool instead of having third-party security tools.""I like Defender XDR's automation capabilities. XDR isn't automated by default, but you can automate it to respond. If an attack is performed anywhere within the organization, you can isolate that instance from the network. This is what I can figure out for it. When integrated with Sentinel, you can set up playbooks to automate all the alerts gathered on Sentinel from different Microsoft solutions. Sentinel has a wider range of capabilities than XDR.""It's a very scalable tool that can be used in a very small environment or in a very large environment. Everything can be managed from a simple dashboard and can be scaled up or down depending on the customer's environment."

More Microsoft Defender XDR Pros →

"The most valuable feature of CrowdStrike Falcon is its accuracy.""From what we have seen, it is very scalable. We have recently acquired a company where someone had a ransomware attack when we joined networks. Within the course of just a few days, we were able to easily get CrowdStrike rolled out to about 300 machines. That also included the removal of that company's legacy anti-malware tool.""The most valuable aspects of CrowdStrike Falcon for me are its device observability, identification, and software and OS recognition.""The solution can scale easily.""Scalability hasn't been an issue for us.""The stability is very good.""Everything is automatic. I install the sensor and renew the service. Periodically, I get a notice that they've shut something down.""At this point what is most valuable is the interface, which is easy to navigate."

More CrowdStrike Falcon Pros →

"The tool's most valuable feature is Vigilance Respond Pro monitoring. You don't have to have a dedicated SOC and worry about staffing.""Previously, we had some processes related to incident response which required more steps. We needed to upload to VirusTotal, Sandbox, et cetera. Now, this process is shortened because all of the information we need is already in SentinelOne. We can briefly analyze and even respond from one management console. If someone has SOC, using the API, they can control everything. It's very cool. I think this is the future.""I really like the storyline feature.""The anti-ransomware capability to analyze the threats and user-friendliness are the most valuable features.""The most valuable features include the agent installation and update processes.""I appreciate the network control as well as the device control.""The most valuable feature of this solution is the user-friendly interface.""It's a plug-and-play solution that works well with other out of box integrations that we have."

Cons
"The support team is not competent or responsive.""Correctly updated records are the most significant area for improvement. There have been times when we were notified of a required fix; we would carry out the fix and confirm it but still get the same notification a week later. This seems to be a delay in records being updated and leads to false reporting, which is something that needs to be fixed.""In the beginning, it's difficult to navigate the system because it is quite large. Just trying to find your way and understand how the system works can be hard. After spending quite a lot of time searching it's a lot easier, but I wish it were a bit more user-friendly when you're trying to find things.""Microsoft tends to provide too many features, which makes the solution prone to bugs.""When discussing the secure score, which includes overviews and recommended actions, some of these recommended actions are not applicable to us, particularly those related to Microsoft Internet Explorer, which we do not use in any of our environments.""The capability to not only thwart attacks but also to adapt to evolving threats is crucial.""I would like more of the features in Defender for 365 to be included in the smaller licenses. Even if I buy a small license and don't need everything, security shouldn't be a question. Security is one of the main aspects of all projects from our side, so it would be nice to have more features in the smaller licenses.""There are a few technical issues with Defender XDR that can be improved. Sometimes, the endpoint devices are not reporting properly to the Defender 365 portal. When you're getting all the information from the Microsoft portal, the devices are sometimes not in sync. We have hundreds of endpoint devices, some needing to be onboarded again."

More Microsoft Defender XDR Cons →

"They need to strengthen the forensic capabilities of this product, for e-discovery.""It can be expensive depending on the features you select.""There are some areas where some customers would prefer a different service.""Any kind of integration that you want to do, such as using the API to connect to a SIEM, is complex and it will be expensive to do.""The technical support team often just replies to an issue with a link to an article rather than actually calling back and talking to someone and making sure the problem is solved. To me, that's kind of weak.""An improvement would be to extend support to legacy and unsupported servers.""The malware analysis could be improved, as that's what we use the solution for the most and that change would make it a better EDR tool.""The portal can be clunky to navigate at times and has room for improvement."

More CrowdStrike Falcon Cons →

"When comparing SentinelOne to CrowdStrike, I find that CrowdStrike has more comprehensive vulnerability assessment tools.""The grouping feature needs improvement.""If they can extend their product further on the DLP side of it so that I don't have to have another agent run exclusively for DLP production, that would be ideal.""The role-based access is in dire need of improvement. We actually discussed this on a roadmap call and were informed that it was coming, but then it was delayed. It limits the roles that you can have in the platform, and we require several custom roles. We work with a lot of third-parties whom we rely on for some of our IT services. Part of those are an external SOC function where they are over-provisioned in the solution because there isn't anything relevant for the level of work that they do.""It can be a little daunting at first. With the deep visibility feature, if I had more insights into how to troubleshoot things better, that would be helpful. Their documentation could be a lot better. It could be more in-depth.""The update process can be better. It is very easy to deploy, but over a long period, the updating process can be a little messy. In some EDR solutions, you end up with a very good mechanism to push new versions. It could do with a little work in that area. It is not particularly difficult, but it could do with a little work.""The adware and pop-up blockers have room for improvement.""It's fine. It's correcting all the EFC files with a virus. All the achievements, maximum EFC files. Many EFC files will be flagged as a virus. Some virus databases need to be updated. The model is good at finding many EFC files. The trouble is it needs to be updated."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "The solutions price is fair for what they offer."
  • "The price could be better. Normally, the costs depend on the country you're located in for the license. When we were in the initial stage, we went with the E5 license they call premium standard. It cost us around $5.20 per month for four users."
  • "The price of the solution is high compared to others and we have lost some customers because of it."
  • "Microsoft is not competitive with the pricing of the solution. The competitors are able to offer lower discounts. The price of the solution is higher."
  • "We have a lot of problems in Latin America regarding the price of Microsoft 365 Defender, because the relationship between dollars and the money of the different countries, it's is a lot. Many customers that have small businesses say that they would like the solution but it is too expensive. However, large companies do not find the cost an issue."
  • "The most valuable licensing option is expensive, so pricing could be improved. Licensing options for this solution also need to be consolidated, because they frequently change."
  • "Microsoft should provide lower-level licensing options. They should do it in such a way that even an individual could purchase a license, and it should be entirely flexible."
  • "They have moved from a licensing model to pay-per-use... The question is: What happens if, for any reason, there's not enough budget to accept this model? That could be a great problem."

  • "The pricing will depend upon your volume of usage."
  • "I would like them to further reduce the price, because it is quite pricey at the moment."
  • "Purchasing the product through the AWS Marketplace is just a click away. Since we were using the on-premise version of the product, we continued on the cloud by purchasing it through the AWS Marketplace."
  • "I do not have experience with the cost or licensing of the product."
  • "The other administrator and I can log in to check the exact details of what happened, what was running, and what caused the detection. We know exactly what was happening on the end users PC and we can tell if it's something that we actually need or something that's malicious."
  • "We are at about $60,000 per year."
  • "This solution has a very competitive price."
  • "Our company pays approximately US$ 65,000 annually for 900 machines."

  • "The price is competitive, if you compare it with other solutions on the market."
  • "Spend money on the security for the endpoint."
  • "The price for it is very competitive compared to other Next Gen EPP."
  • "The per-seat cost is low, but you have to commit to a certain number of licenses for a year."
  • "The larger count you have, the deeper discount you will receive in your contract."
  • "Our licensing fees are about $5 USD per endpoint, per month."
  • "USD$6 per end point which decreases as end points increase."
  • "Pricing is a bit of a pain point. That's where we have not been able to convince all of our customers to use SentinelOne. The pricing is still on the higher side. It's almost double the price, if not more, of a normal antivirus, such as NOD32, Kaspersky, or Symantec."

Jeff D. who is an Operations Manager at Proton Dealership IT, tells us that "The detection rate for Sentinel One has been excellent and we have been able to resolve many potential threats with zero client impact. The ability to deploy via our RMM allows us to quickly secure new clients and provides peace of mind."

"The most valuable feature varies from client to client but having absolute clarity of what happened and the autonomous actions of SentinelOne are what most people find the most assuring." relates Rae J., Director IR and MDR at a tech services company.
