Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The reporting feature and the Dell's continuous improvement of the solution are the most valuable features. The solution not only supports Dell Power Products but also other products.""The initial setup is very straightforward. Deployment typically takes about one hour. You just need one person to handle the deployment process.""It generates very detailed reports, which makes things easier when it comes to IT auditing.""The deduplication is probably the most valuable feature of that requirement.""It has a lot of stock reports. I believe over 300 canned reports, which for the most part meet a lot of generic needs.""This is a stable solution.""The platform's most valuable features are data protection and retention.""The most valuable aspects of the solution are the compression and the duplication."

"From a disaster-recovery point of view, one of the things I really like is that I can test the virtual copy of the physical server on a test network and compare the servers side-by-side, without interfering with the production network. So I can see and make sure that the latest copy of the server is the physical copy of the server, without interfering with production.""Quorum OnQ has a good ransomware protection feature, and customer service and support were very good.""The solution is very cost effective.""It does automated tests to the systems to make sure that you could spin them up if you needed to. And if something doesn't come back up in those tests, we get a notification saying the system didn't come back up.""The solution offers good documentation.""One of the most valuable features was the usability, since many of the features were very straightforward. The backup and restoration process was also very fast. Although we weren't able to fully test the scenarios, one of the features was that we could have it restored on a remote site. However, since we were on-prem, we weren't able to test the remote site restoration.""The change in the way that Quorum processes data has made a tremendous improvement in backup and replication times. While the familiar interface remains, the underpinnings have been finely tuned and the speed is incredible. My large Exchange Server went from 5- to 6-hour backups down to 22 minutes.""Being able to spin up a machine in a sandbox is amazing because it allows us to test things that we otherwise would not be able to do."

Cons
"It's a bit difficult for first-time users.""Dell Data Protection Advisor's feature for data domain protection needs enhancement.""We have encountered issues where we were unable to pull data from the database server. It should also improve the backward compatibility.""They should empower their customers with the ability to upgrade this solution as long as it's in the same major release.""The solution requires more integration with our other solutions. I know that they have full integration with VMware because it is also from EMC. However, we have to have better integration with Microsoft and Nutanix as well.""The stability of the solution needs improvement for stand alone users.""It is difficult to manage the solution with the available tools. You need to know exactly what are you are doing.""The functionality of the Data Protection Advisor is limited and is something that is lacking in this solution. Other solutions like CloudIQ and DDMC provide a much better outlook on how data protection should be done."

More Dell Data Protection Advisor Cons →

"They need integration with other platforms.""I paid for subscription of Firewall. I paid for subscription of endpoint protection. Thet should introduce single subscription for all services.""Better integration with cloud-based solutions like Azure and Office 365 is needed.""At times the email notifications don't go out, but a quick reset always fixes that problem.""The price is high and could be more competitive.""The cost could be reduced.""I would really like it if they followed comparable products from other vendors and had an option where you could offload to tape. I know it sounds incredibly antiquated, but the benefit I see is that there would be a better air gap than you have with backing up to an online source.""I don't love the scheduler, as I think that interface could use an overhaul."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "It's not very expensive — I think the price is fair."
  • "You have to procure the license when you are ordering or quoting for Dell Data Protection Suite (DPS). DPS is bundled with the suite and comes with a license. However, if you purchase NetWorker separately then you will have to procure the license for DPS separately."
  • "For pricing, I would rate Dell 2 out of 5. It's affordable."
  • "You need to make an upfront payment for three, five, or seven years and renew the licenses for support. We can do an annual maintenance contract with Dell. I would rate the product's pricing a six out of ten."
  • "If the customer has huge lineup of Dell Products then they receive discount on the pricing."
  • "The product is affordable."

  • "We have never questioned whether it is worth it because it so obviously is a great value."
  • "When we first got the Quorum the licensing was different."
  • "The cost is higher than other software and services, but it is an absolute must-have."
  • "The total for our current solution's licensing is about $14,000 for 12 servers for three years."
  • "The pricing is about $1,400 a month. It's a little bit on the higher side. But it's one of those situations where time is valuable for me. So if it costs a little bit more money for me to have a solution that just works and requires less of my day-to-day management, I'm willing to pay a little bit more."
  • "The initial expenditure for us was a little under $40,000 for the recent renewal. For the first three years after that, other than electricity, there's no cost. After that, their support contract has to be renewed annually. We spent close to $6,000, between the two offices, for support."
  • "When we quote the price of Quorum to customers, they find it expensive."
  • "The upfront cost of purchasing a license for the hardware is quite steep."
