We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"It's easy to use.""It is scalable software. All you need to increase is its RAM and CPU. It's pretty easy.""The standout feature of Dell NetWorker is its expertise in handling our VMware environment.""Very user-friendly with a good interface.""The solution is simple to understand.""Data domain is a good feature.""It has the ability to support all kinds of backups. It can be used to back up databases, operating systems, virtual machines, Lotus Notes, and Exchange. It can also do remote image backups for remote sites. It integrates and works with Data Domain. It is an enterprise-class product that can be used for anything and everything across multiple sites and locations. It is also very scalable.""The backup capabilities and the automatization of the backup - along with the potential to make the back up on a virtual machine - are the solution's most valuable aspects."

"In terms of stability, I've found it to be very stable. I've walked into the server room when it was at 60 degrees Celcius, and it was still running fine.""The solution is highly stable.""The command-line interface is good.""Overall IBM ProtectTIER is a great solution. It is easy to use.""The most valuable features are the Self-Service, and the ability to search the data.""The cataloging is the best feature. It takes millions of frames for the backup. It's incremental, so it takes less time to complete."

Cons
"We would like support for tape space reclaim, using either the same or another pool.""Regarding improvements for NetWorker, I believe implementing cross-platform restore functionality is essential. This feature would allow for compatibility with various backup software solutions, similar to Veeam.""The management of Dell Networker is quite cumbersome.""It's complex in nature.""It is not easy to understand and deploy. It is complex in nature. Simplicity is not there. When we deploy it, the customer always needs some training from us. To make it user friendly, there should be one agent that can be used to back up every product. Dell EMC NetWorker uses so many user agents. In PowerProtect Data Manager, you can just install its VM, import that VM into vCenter, and you can start to do backups directly from vCenter. However, in Dell EMC NetWorker, you always need one server, and from that server, you need to initiate all backups. You must know the interface and the CLI. It is not user friendly. It would be a great feature if we can deploy Dell EMC NetWorker on a virtual machine, like Avamar. The additional features that are required in Dell EMC NetWorker are already available in PowerProtect Data Manager and Avamar. Therefore, there is no need to enhance Dell EMC NetWorker. It would be better if they can just rename it to PowerProtect Data Manager or Avamar.""The end-user experience is not good.""The user interface of this solution could be improved. It is not user friendly and is difficult to understand for new users. New users struggle to understand the logic.""The stability of the NMC could use some attention, as it tends to be a bit shaky during jobs and other operations."

More Dell NetWorker Cons →

"IBM ProtectTIER could improve by being more user-friendly.""Setting up the system to work with legacy equipment is a bit complex at times.""The configuration wizards are still complex and hard to navigate. These should be easier to manage.""I would like the possibility to back up the infrastructure and then replicate it upon on restart, without having to orchestrate the starting of the VM.""The backup for a large amount of data is slow."
