Great deduplication, robust hardware, and extremely reliable

What is our primary use case?

We primarily use the solution for backup purposes.

Pros and Cons

  • "The hardware can operate in high temperatures, in case of any disaster."
  • "First-time integrations are difficult in NetWorker. NetWorker software needs to be simplified. It's very complex."

What other advice do I have?

We are doing multiple POCs right now. We have already installed it in the banks of Pakistan. We are providing solution architects, support, deployment, and residential services. In early deployments you need to size the backup solution properly and then design it, create it, and export it. Early on, we are sure to always have a delivery of that statement. After delivery, my engineers will be aligned with the Dell EMC CPU, who makes the PDQ chain. That way, we can always patch the required IPs and do those backups as well. We always deploy the bank's backup software, and we'll do the patches…

Good technical support and a commendable deduplication rate

What is our primary use case?

We are system integrators and this is one of the solutions that we provide to our clients. This appliance allows you to expand into the cloud with a provider like AWS or Azure. It can provide the capability for a third-level backup.

Pros and Cons

  • "The most valuable feature is the deduplication rate."
  • "The price could be lowered slightly, to make it more competitive."

What other advice do I have?

My advice to anybody who is considering this solution is to compare products from Veritas, Commvault, IBM, and Dell EMC. Personally, I feel that this is a robust solution and one that I can always recommend. That said, there is no perfect solution. No matter how robust it is, all competitors have an edge in some way. It could be price, availability, simplicity, the level of support, or something else. I would rate this solution an eight out of ten.

User-friendly, stable, and feature-rich

What is our primary use case?

We are a solution provider and Veritas NetBackup is one of the backup and recovery products that we resell to our clients.

Pros and Cons

  • "NetBackup is very easy for end-users."
  • "The biggest problem with NetBackup is licensing."

What other advice do I have?

Overall, NetBackup is a good product and the only problem is the licensing module. We would really like to have socket-based licensing. I would rate this solution a nine out of ten.

Has high availability but could be cheaper

Pros and Cons

  • "We use Data Guard for online replication from data center, to data center for high availability. This is the most important feature."
  • "It is a very useful administrative IT tool. It saves on costs."

What other advice do I have?

It is a very useful administrative IT tool. It saves on costs. I strongly recommend Data Guard. I've been using it for eight years and I would strongly recommend it. I'd rate Oracle Data Guard a seven out of ten. To make it a ten, the core base license could be cheaper. The cloud environment would also make it cheaper.
