We performed a comparison between Dynatrace and IBM Security QRadar based on our users’ reviews in five categories. After reading all of the collected data, you can find our conclusion below.
Features: Dynatrace is highly regarded for its advanced AI engine and ability to identify infrastructure automatically. It also offers session replay and impressive visualization features. QRadar users say the solution provides extensive information and helpful leads for locating pertinent data. QRadar stands out with its comprehensive network visibility and strong SIEM capabilities. Some Dynatrace reviewers feel the learning curve is a little steep, and the documentation could be clearer. Users say that Dynatrace should offer more security options and improve integration with other tools. QRadar could improve its rule deployment and lower its false positive rate. Users would also like expanded storage capacity, streamlined user management, and a more mature architecture.
Service and Support: Users generally found Dynatrace's customer service to be helpful and available, but some said that the response times and documentation have room for improvement. Some QRadar customers have had trouble connecting with knowledgeable support staff and experienced delayed responses.
Ease of Deployment: Dynatrace's setup is simple, efficient, and requires minimal technical configuration. It takes a few hours at most. QRadar's initial setup can be complex for users without expertise, and the difficulty may vary depending on the size of the data set.
Pricing: Users say Dynatrace is expensive. Some noted that the licensing model is complicated and not transparent. Some said they struggled to accurately predict the number of units needed. QRadar can be costly because users need to buy new hardware to upgrade.
ROI: Dynatrace users said the solutions saved them money and reduced downtime. QRadar delivers a high return on investment, improving security through its advanced user behavior analytics.
"It provides the whole perspective in a single place when trying to guide the right people to go to the right solution at any given point in time."
"Using that telemetry from Dynatrace, we are able to pinpoint what our performance issues are so we can tune the system."
"Mean time to recover (MTTR) has reduced significantly during major outages due to specific data pinpointed by DT applications."
"Its ability to correlate a large source of information to pinpoint a root cause. This speeds up issue resolution and allow us to better reach our objectives."
"From a diagnosing standpoint, it has been a game changer. Before, we did not have monitoring, so anytime there was an issue, it was just guess-and-check."
"I am primarily doing DC RUM, so on that side there are a lot of awesome abilities where people who can't implement an agent are able to still monitor a lot of their apps and decodes."
"The tool allows us to see if it is an infrastructural related issue and see what is affected right away."
"Working with the user interface is a pleasure for any customer since it is fast, responsive, and very well designed."
"Most of our clients are interested in automation. The automation part is good because they are able to detect threats and vulnerabilities in real time. It's very fast."
"The product provides a complete platform for ingesting the log, doing the correlations and handling the runtime."
"Integrations are quite a useful and key feature of this solution. It has integration with the CVSS score, which is a central point for all the data and scores about the threats. There is an IBM Bluemix dashboard that is integrated with the CVSS score."
"The most valuable features are log monitoring, easy-to-fix issues, and problem-solving."
"The support is very good. We get support whenever we need it. Sometimes they respond immediately and sometimes it will be within 24 hours. We can ask them to please do it right away and they can get a request done within an hour or two."
"In addition to using this solution for our security operations center, we are using it for our other customers."
"The feature that I have found most valuable is its artificial intelligence component, Watson. Its contribution is pretty good from a machine-learning artificial intelligence perspective. This compliments the orchestration automation component, as well."
"Customer service is very good and very helpful."
"Our main problems have been that it has a high learning curve to it. I've used it for about three years now and I'm still learning it. There are some videos and there is some documentation out there, but it still requires you to delve into the tool to learn it. A little bit more comprehensive self-paced training would help."
"The other feature that Dynatrace should have is - from what I see in Dynatrace in our PoC - when you auto-upgrade the agents, the JVM or the application has to be restarted. But if you have something like an "auto-attach" feature, to attach the agent for the running process, it would not require a JVM restart. That would be nicer. That is a killer point."
"It still has a long way to go to reach that single pane of glass."
"I would like to see the same features as in the New Relic Insights in the dashboard. That is the only thing I want to see improved in Dynatrace."
"I would like to see AppMon also integrated in the Dynatrace portal. There are certain features, which I am not saying are not there in Dynatrace, but I am used to in AppMon."
"I would say it's not scalable, because we've had to move large applications that were in a shared environment to their own separate Dynatrace server instance."
"I would like to know if classes and methods selected in "Method Sensor Rules" were changed in the applications, and not depend on the developers to warn us."
"There should be more visibility for network performance monitoring. There should be more metrics for things like 5G and IoT. That would be the main thing because they've moved more to mobile performance rather than fixed networks."
"The solution is difficult to understand in the beginning and has complex management configurations that can be improved."
"IBM QRadar Advisor with Watson could be more user-friendly. You need some skills and understanding of what you're looking at, especially if you're going to draw down specific information."
"It needs more resilience and functionality."
"Before we didn't have any security issues but recently a few of the user emails were hacked. We had to actually recreate their emails for them."
"IBM technical support is always terrible."
"There should be more opportunity for community kind of distribution where, for example, if there was a zero-day threat targeting companies."
"I would like to see the update process simplified."
"The only challenge is that IBM has been a closed enterprise. It should be more open to integrating with other providers at an enterprise level. We're a bank and the core banking system integration is not way straightforward and there is no integration between IBM and these products. If IBM could open up and provide a way of integrating it seamlessly, without charging more for it, that would make a big difference."
