We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros
"A drag-and-drop interface for selecting creating ad hoc reports makes this product very easy to use.""The initial setup is quite straightforward.""IBM Cognos offers tools so that you can design and develop your own test queries and reporting solutions.""IBM Cognos improves the effectiveness of the sales team.""The product is a very good reporting tool and is very flexible. It allows for the users to get a scheduled report.""This solution allows you to input a wide range of file formats."

"It is solid and stable.""The common metadata environment means that the entire organisation has the same definition of core measures rather than these being derived in spreadsheets or specific reports.""The solution's user security is extremely effective. You can profile very well. All the users and all the functionality is protected and that includes information and data segregation.""It provides flexibility for creating reports. It is very good for creating highly-complex reports. I like this solution because when I buy BusinessObjects, it comes with many components, such as reporting, dashboard, and data visualization tools. Its performance is good. It is running on top of SAP BW and SAP HANA.""It is stable and robust. It has pretty direct integration with SAP ERP. It is easy to use.""The setup is pretty easy. It's not hard at all.""If I were to compare it with Power BI and I wanted to build proper well-formatted reports, BusinessObjects Business Intelligence does that much better. Power BI is just getting into that space. They've concentrated more on visualization, which is what the SAP Lumira does. With Web Intelligence, you are able to build reports that users can interact with. They can also do a lot of querying themselves. It is robust in terms of security and integration. It is also quite scalable.""SAP BusinessObjects Business Intelligence Platform is definitely scalable."

Cons
"They were lacking in the initial phases of development in the area of big data, and they still need to improve that aspect of the product.""The AI-based features could be further enhanced by the solution.""The performance is a bottleneck and something that can be improved.""In terms of what could be improved, I would say, monitoring, monitoring, monitoring. Some improvements in monitoring would be helpful. I'd like to see more monitoring of specific reports and fields. The way the auditing is now is very limited, so I'd like to see more of that - of the monitoring.""The solution seems to slow down the servers.""It would be nice to offer free online training on the tool for end-users."

More IBM Cognos Cons »

"Over the years, the product tends to rename and rebrand itself and change its direction. This is a deficit of the solution.""This solution is complex to configure and administer.""The self-service area, or dashboard, needs some improvement. While the reporting itself is great, the dashboard and Analytics Cloud are not user friendly.""Its data visualization tool is not as good as Power BI and Tableau. Currently, for data visualization, you need to spend more money to buy another solution such as Power BI or Tableau. It is also very hard to integrate it with other third-party solutions. Its integration with other solutions should be improved.""Its price should be better. It is expensive and not cost-effective. It should also be improved in terms of end-user experience. It requires further improvements for usability and ease of use. It should have more dashboarding metrics and much faster integration with ERP so that when you double click, you can instantly see the scenario-based result.""The UI could be updated a bit.""I don't like the fact that I have to use two tools. Web Intelligence is good for reporting and all kinds of stuff, but I would rather have one product. All the reporting features of Web Intelligence should be developed within Lumira. A lot of predictive abilities have been brought into the cloud version of SAP Analytics. It would be nice to see a lot of newer technologies and AI. Predictive capabilities are becoming a little more standard. Instead of having to get another model, we are just looking for one solution to deal with analytics including predictive.""There should be more integration with other platforms."

Pricing and Cost Advice
"Pricing should be improved.""The pricing of this product is meant for medium to large-scale enterprises.""It is my understanding that the cost is very low. It's not very expensive."

More IBM Cognos Pricing and Cost Advice »

"Its price is fair.""It is not cost-effective. It is expensive.""I have always found SAP BI to be expensive. It is expensive even when you compare SAP BI Cloud with Microsoft Power BI. Power BI is probably around $9.99 per month, and the cheapest SAP BI is around $20, which is double. In terms of price, Power BI is definitely a lot better. If you have budget issues, you may want to go for Power BI."
