We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros
"MicroStrategy has what they call the Semantic Graph — an enterprise-grade semantic graph — and I think the technology is fantastic.""The dashboard features and functionalities that come through the MicroStrategy Suite are the most valuable. It can be used by end users with minimum knowledge of the product. They can run a report or create a dashboard on their phones, which is kind of cool.""It's user-friendly, also the MTDI cube is a very good approach, as it helps you to use the pre-format instead of using the standard objects from the schema of MicroStrategy.""MicroStrategy's solution for mobile is very good.""I haven't come across any bugs.""This solution is the most scalable BI platform in the world.""The product is very mature. It's quite robust and an excellent enterprise-level solution.""It is easy to use and visually very appealing. One thing that sets it apart is that it has got a great ETL tool. As compared to some of the other solutions, it is much easier to process data from other applications in MicroStrategy. That's why we prefer using it."

"SAP BusinessObjects Business Intelligence Platform is definitely scalable.""The platform uses a lot of Java technologies so the performance and system-level management are tricky because it needs a lot of resources.""The solution's user security is extremely effective. You can profile very well. All the users and all the functionality is protected and that includes information and data segregation.""We find the product to be very stable.""The most valuable feature we have found to be the SAP BW, which is a warehouse tool. Additionally, it is an easy tool to use.""The setup is pretty easy. It's not hard at all.""The reporting features the solution offers are excellent.""The planning and dashboarding features have been useful. Additionally, the fixed-format reports are good."

Cons
"The learning curve is quite steep.""We've found the scalability to be very good. However, it depends on the environment. In general, it could be much better.""MicroStrategy should become more user friendly. It should behave more like Tableau.""They should provide more tutorials and include some project files.""They should give proper industry-based tutorials so that one can learn it easily and implement it based on the requirements. They should give more MMP files so that we can import a whole project altogether and learn from that project.""In the developer, there are things that you able to do in a document or a report that you are not able to do in the Dossier.""It crashes multiple times for even small changes that I make on the fly in the dashboard. After doing all the necessary changes, the MicroStrategy desktop or even the web version kicks the users out, and all the changes are lost. This functionality is buggy in MicroStrategy. It is hard to keep track of all the changes that I have done before. I don't want to make copies of each change that I have made because I would end up creating a hundred dashboards. It is not feasible in a real environment. I haven't worked on integrating MicroStrategy with the cloud. I am not sure how it behaves in the cloud, but I have heard from a few of my friends that there are some hiccups when you kind of sync to the cloud through MicroStrategy.""It would be good if it had greater analytics so we could build these visualizations by ourselves with scripts."

"The dashboard tool is called Lumira and it is very uncomfortable for developers to use. They should improve this in the future.""Its price should be better. It is expensive and not cost-effective. It should also be improved in terms of end-user experience. It requires further improvements for usability and ease of use. It should have more dashboarding metrics and much faster integration with ERP so that when you double click, you can instantly see the scenario-based result.""They could reduce the licensing expenses. There is nothing really wrong with the product in terms of what it does. It works well. If you are a part of BI Launch Pad, then you could run ad hoc reporting, but for the integration, you need access to BI Launch Pad, which is quite expensive. We're an organization with 18,000 employees. It is not really practical to give people access to BI Launch Pad. So, from a customer perspective, in terms of saturating our employee base, we don't really have great saturation because of the expense.""When we implemented BusinessObjects, the setup was straightforward. After SAP bought BusinessObjects, it gradually became more and more stepwise. There are too many steps, and they take too much time.""The solution could be less expensive. It's a bit pricey now.""We're an Epic shop, and Epic is moving away from Crystal. It would be nice if it had tighter integration with products like Epic. It would be awesome to have better integration with third-party products.""There should be more integration with other platforms.""Its data visualization tool is not as good as Power BI and Tableau. Currently, for data visualization, you need to spend more money to buy another solution such as Power BI or Tableau. It is also very hard to integrate it with other third-party solutions. Its integration with other solutions should be improved."

Pricing and Cost Advice
"We have one of the best pricing available, but we can't disclose that information.""They can improve its licensing. It is a bit expensive as compared to Microsoft and other tools.""They offer yearly as well as perpetual licenses.""We have a license with packages, and there are additional costs for extra components.""All BI software vendors' list prices are high. It's about a price that fits the customer's needs. And I think MicroStrategy has some flexibility in its pricing model where we can easily demonstrate a total cost of ownership comparison against any of the other players.""It is expensive. We would like to extend it to many users, but we are currently restricting that because the cost is a constraint. If we are given a chance, we would love to expand it.""The pricing is fair."

"The price and the pricing model are fine. We find the solution does not give us a lot of additional value.""It is not cost-effective. It is expensive.""We purchase licenses through Epic. So, we get an Epic price as opposed to the SAP price. If we were going to use other products like Webby that they offer or exclusively use BI Launch Pad, it would cost a lot because half of our employees would touch it in some fashion. So, we use Epic-Crystal integration to keep the licensing cost down. I believe the BI Launch Pad licensing is something like $800 for each, and the Crystal Report licensing is something like $500 for each, but that's not what we pay.""Its price is fair.""I have always found SAP BI to be expensive. It is expensive even when you compare SAP BI Cloud with Microsoft Power BI. Power BI is probably around $9.99 per month, and the cheapest SAP BI is around $20, which is double. In terms of price, Power BI is definitely a lot better. If you have budget issues, you may want to go for Power BI."
