We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The most valuable feature of the IBM Db2 Database is the ease of use, and the ability to do query writing of any SQL statement and have an output.""IBM Db2 Database has good performance.""Your iOS, your throughputs, your performance cycles, you cannot touch it with Microsoft or with Oracle scalability-wise. That is far and away the most scalable systems and the highest performing systems of the set of them.""We had a crash of the backup system and the IBM DB2 was always up and consistent. It's robust, and for us, it was always up and running.""IBM DB2 pureScale Feature is valuable.""The solution is a very stable relational database and has integration with legacy systems. It is a great product.""The most valuable features are the simplicity of the database and the access to Db2 and Db2 information.""The most valuable features are with the industrial side."

"The best thing about Oracle Multitenant is its ability to consolidate multiple databases into one engine.""Multitenant has a container database with many pluggable databases.""You can scale the solution as needed.""The most valuable features are the speed and ease of use.""It's easy to use and works great.""The feature that I like on Multitenant is the ease - it is very easy for my team to run the database.""The database becomes pluggable. Inside this container is called a pluggable database and each application contains this pluggable database inside Multitenant. We can then share resources like control files, memory, etc. This lets you stop and start each application without impacting the others. This resource sharing is the most valuable feature""Maintaining databases is a valuable feature for us."

Cons
"Db2 interface could be improved a bit. Comparing it to Oracle, Db2's interfaces could be improved.""It would be helpful to have a hybrid data storage facility that includes NoSQL technologies.""They should simplify the management of Db2 as a relational database system. There should be the simplification of management. This is probably one of the most important asks for being successful in the future.""The capabilities of this solution could improve.""The management of Db2 should be simplified because there are not too many specialists in this area, and the learning curve of Db2 specialists is very long. After the courses, probably it takes one and a half or two years to get to the point when you are using the product properly in the production systems. So, the complexity is very high, and the most important thing is to simplify the management of the product, including self-maintenance. They should simplify the installation, management, and monitoring to simplify the product. It takes too long for a person to be a specialist in this product.""The only drawback that we see in Db2 Database is the crash recovery. When there is a crash and somebody has to do the recovery, Db2 Database first stops, and then it does any crash recovery. In Oracle Database, crash recovery happens within the database. The database is not shut down.""I would like to see better support for advanced analytics.""Microsoft SQL Server is comparatively very simple to use. I wish IBM would move towards making Db2 easy to use for both basic and advanced users. This is where I see room for advancement. Db2 is also more expensive than Microsoft SQL Server, and its price can be reduced. The replication feature needs to be there in Db2. Microsoft provides similar functionality in SQL Server. IBM also has similar functionality, but it exists in a different product. So, to have the replication ability, you have to buy a different product. It makes sense to have this functionality within Db2 instead of a different product. It will also be helpful in terms of competition. In Africa, the problem for Db2 is competition. Oracle Database and Microsoft SQL Server have been in this market for a very long time. These companies have built the ecosystem and the brand within this market for a very long time. So, they are very popular with users. Db2 or IBM came a little later in the game, and that's where the problem lies. They also don't do a lot of marketing for it, which is also a problem."

"It can be complicated to scale up the solution, but it's scalable.""That said, Oracle in general doesn't invest in their UI for any of their applications. If we're talking about the dashboard or other user experience, there is room for improvement. I'm talking about on premises. The cloud version has started to improve.""This solution is a bit complicated when collecting from containers - that feature should be a bit better.""The solution lacks a GUI for commands.""Technical support could be faster.""While the product is overall excellent, it is quite expensive.""The user interface for this solution can be made better.""It would be beneficial to include this solution with Oracle Enterprise, but Oracle charges additional fees for it."

  • More IBM Db2 Database Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "This solution is a little bit pricey."
  • "For me, I will go with it if I have the budget. Some features are nicer than before, but at the end of the day, you always have a limited budget. I prefer to upgrade and get a specific hardware when possible. At the end, you will have to make a compromise. You will not get everything you would have liked to have."
