Most Helpful Review
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:
It's highly scalable. It takes upon itself the Redshift scalability, so it's very good.
It has improved the costs of managing my customer’s data.
It takes less than five minutes to set up and delivers results. It is much quicker than traditional ETL technologies.
It is pretty user-friendly, even for people who aren't super technical.
It has good integrations with Amazon Redshift and other AWS services.
We allow non-technical people to use Matillion to load data into our data warehouse for reporting. Thus, it is easy enough to use that we don't always have to get a technical person involved in setting up a data movement (ETL).
It has helped us to get onto the cloud quickly.
The technical support treats us well. They already have a support portal, and they are responsive, which helps.
This solution has improved our overall time to value for data ingestion.
You can use Talend as a stand-alone application without customization to collect data and generate reports over dashboards. It's got great functionality.
The initial setup was quite straightforward. The deployment took between two and three days.
We have contacted their technical support. They are great. They offer very professional help. If I need some technical answer, they are very professional. They are quick, professional, and very accurate.
A helpful feature for us is the integration with NoSQL databases.
The Talend Studio connected to the Talend MDM (Master Data Management) is the most valuable feature. Talend Studio is used to create a job stream that connects to multiple data sources, matches, compares or creates a golden record for overall identification. It also has a good catalogue of objects that can be dragged and dropped for building models.
Ideally, I would like it to integrate with Secrets Manager as well as the AWS.
It needs integration with more data sources.
Going forward, I would like them to add custom jobs, since we still have to run these outside of Matillion.
In the next release, we would like to have connections to more databases.
To complete the pipeline, they might want to include some connectors which would put the data into different platforms. This would be helpful.
Performance can be improved for efficiency, and it can be made faster.
While the UI is good, it could be improved in its efficiency and made easier to use.
Inter-version compatibility is a problem, and migration projects between versions are required.
There used to be many Youtube channels that offered Talend training, but now there don't seem to be any. The solution should offer more online training resources.
The profiling perspective needs improvement. Instead of using it in the studio, we are using a different tool which is also provided by Talend. It's redundant.
If I compare Open Studion to other solutions, their interface is robust but not so fancy looking. This is an area that could use improvement. I would like to see an updated interface.
The price for Talend Data Integration should be less expensive.
It needs better installation configuration for other databases. Although the installation allows you to select another database, this doesn't mean that all connection points in the application point to the database selected. You actually need to do a search through the entire install to locate the configuration settings and change them.
In version 6.2 we did encounter issues with the job servers and specifically with ESB. Version 6.3 is better but large jobs can cause the MDM server to fall over, requiring a reboot.
Pricing and Cost Advice
The solution is very cheap. You're paying $2.50 an hour and if you set your service up, which you can do, you're not getting charged. Currently, our ETL process is just an overnight process that runs for about an hour. I can start and stop my server just for an hour if I want to and spent $2.50 a day for an ETL solution. There are no additional costs.
The AWS pricing and licensing are a cost-effective solution for data integration needs.
It was procured through the AWS Marketplace because it keeps things simple. They offer retail-like checkout and bill through your existing Amazon Web Services account.
Purchasing it through the AWS Marketplace is pretty convenient. There is a little bit of back and forth in terms of the licensing based on the machine size, but it seems to have worked out well. it is convenient to have it all as part of our AWS billing.
It is not necessarily a cheap solution. However, it's reasonable priced, especially with the smaller machines that we run it on.
The prices needs to be lower.
It was very easy to purchase through the AWS Marketplace, but it was also expensive.
I have heard from my manager and other higher ups, "This product is cheaper than other things on the market," and they have done the research.
Talend is free and you can download it.
Pricing and licensing are fairly straightforward. It is reasonably priced and managed.
