Most Helpful Review
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:
It's highly scalable. It takes upon itself the Redshift scalability, so it's very good.
It has improved the costs of managing my customer’s data.
It takes less than five minutes to set up and delivers results. It is much quicker than traditional ETL technologies.
It is pretty user-friendly, even for people who aren't super technical.
It has good integrations with Amazon Redshift and other AWS services.
We allow non-technical people to use Matillion to load data into our data warehouse for reporting. Thus, it is easy enough to use that we don't always have to get a technical person involved in setting up a data movement (ETL).
It has helped us to get onto the cloud quickly.
The technical support treats us well. They already have a support portal, and they are responsive, which helps.
I found the initial setup very easy.
WhereScape's deployment package is a fantastic feature. The application allows for selecting specific objects that you would like to deploy from one environment to another rather than deploying the entire database.
WhereScape RED has improved our business's ability to generate needed reporting without requiring a large team of developers to manually code all of the necessary plumbing.
Their support staff are very knowledgeable, courteous, and professional. I feel their support staff go above and beyond to assure their customers are satisfied.
RED has provided us the ability to integrate, stage, and transform data from diverse sources into an enterprise-grade data warehouse which meets the needs of my organization, but it also enables us to easily and quickly make ETL or DW changes.
RED generates comprehensive documentation and regenerates it as quickly as things changes, but it also provides impact documentation.
Data transformations and rollups are easy to accomplish.
Quickly develops a data warehouse for our organization with documentation and can track back/forward features.
Ideally, I would like it to integrate with Secrets Manager as well as the AWS.
It needs integration with more data sources.
Going forward, I would like them to add custom jobs, since we still have to run these outside of Matillion.
In the next release, we would like to have connections to more databases.
To complete the pipeline, they might want to include some connectors which would put the data into different platforms. This would be helpful.
Performance can be improved for efficiency, and it can be made faster.
While the UI is good, it could be improved in its efficiency and made easier to use.
The solution can be a little more user-friendly on enterprise-level where people use it.
The scheduled jobs which are run by the WhereScape scheduler seem to be a strangely separate animal. Unlike all other WhereScape objects, jobs cannot be added to WhereScape projects. Also, unlike all other objects, jobs also cannot be deleted using a WhereScape deployment application.
Jobs cannot be deleted via the deployment package. When deploying from dev to QA or production, a job has to be retired. The job has to be manually removed from the target environment.
The ability to execute SSIS projects within WhereScape would be nice because we have a lot of packages that are too cumbersome to recreate.
They need a more robust support center. It has been a bit difficult to find solutions to problems that are out-of-the-box.
It could use a tool to diagnose what is missing from the environment for WhereScape to install successfully.
Improve the object renaming ability (it works, but it could be more automated).
No support for change data capture or delta detection - that must be custom coded .
Pricing and Cost Advice
The solution is very cheap. You're paying $2.50 an hour and if you set your service up, which you can do, you're not getting charged. Currently, our ETL process is just an overnight process that runs for about an hour. I can start and stop my server just for an hour if I want to and spent $2.50 a day for an ETL solution. There are no additional costs.
The AWS pricing and licensing are a cost-effective solution for data integration needs.
It was procured through the AWS Marketplace because it keeps things simple. They offer retail-like checkout and bill through your existing Amazon Web Services account.
Purchasing it through the AWS Marketplace is pretty convenient. There is a little bit of back and forth in terms of the licensing based on the machine size, but it seems to have worked out well. it is convenient to have it all as part of our AWS billing.
It is not necessarily a cheap solution. However, it's reasonable priced, especially with the smaller machines that we run it on.
The prices needs to be lower.
It was very easy to purchase through the AWS Marketplace, but it was also expensive.
I have heard from my manager and other higher ups, "This product is cheaper than other things on the market," and they have done the research.
Speed to market of a warehouse solution at a relatively inexpensive price point.
ROI is at least 10 times.
Factor in the price of specialized consulting who know this product. They're hard to find and expensive.
