Most Helpful Review
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:
It has improved the costs of managing my customer’s data.
It takes less than five minutes to set up and delivers results. It is much quicker than traditional ETL technologies.
It is pretty user-friendly, even for people who aren't super technical.
It has good integrations with Amazon Redshift and other AWS services.
We allow non-technical people to use Matillion to load data into our data warehouse for reporting. Thus, it is easy enough to use that we don't always have to get a technical person involved in setting up a data movement (ETL).
It has helped us to get onto the cloud quickly.
The technical support treats us well. They already have a support portal, and they are responsive, which helps.
It can scale to a great extent. It can handle the load that we are putting on it, which is about 5TBs.
The most valuables features are the relatively short learning curve, and the automation capabilities provided through the BIML add-in for SSDT.
Built in reports show package execution and messages. Logging can also be customized so only what is needed is logged. There is also an excellent logging replacement called BiXpress that provides both historical and real-time monitoring which is more efficient and much more robust than the built-in logging capabilities. And none of this requires custom coding to make it useful unlike many other ETL tools.
It has the ability to be deployed into the cloud through Data Factory, and run completely as a software as a service in the cloud.
In SSIS, the scope is not only to handle ETL challenges, but it will allow us to do so many other tasks, such as DBA activities, scripting, calling any .exe or scripts, etc.
It needs integration with more data sources.
Going forward, I would like them to add custom jobs, since we still have to run these outside of Matillion.
In the next release, we would like to have connections to more databases.
To complete the pipeline, they might want to include some connectors which would put the data into different platforms. This would be helpful.
Performance can be improved for efficiency, and it can be made faster.
While the UI is good, it could be improved in its efficiency and made easier to use.
I would like to see more standard components out of the box, such as SFTP, and Data Compression components.
You have to write push down join & lookup SQL to the database yourself via stored procedures or use of the SQL Task to get very high performance. That said, this is a common complaint for nearly all ETL tools on the market and those that offer an alternative such as Informatica offer them at a very expensive add-on price.
A change in the metadata source cripples the whole ETL process, requiring each module to be manually reopened.
SSIS can improve in handling different data sources like Salesforce connectivity, Oracle Cloud's connectivity, etc.
Pricing and Cost Advice
The AWS pricing and licensing are a cost-effective solution for data integration needs.
It was procured through the AWS Marketplace because it keeps things simple. They offer retail-like checkout and bill through your existing Amazon Web Services account.
Purchasing it through the AWS Marketplace is pretty convenient. There is a little bit of back and forth in terms of the licensing based on the machine size, but it seems to have worked out well. it is convenient to have it all as part of our AWS billing.
It is not necessarily a cheap solution. However, it's reasonable priced, especially with the smaller machines that we run it on.
The prices needs to be lower.
It was very easy to purchase through the AWS Marketplace, but it was also expensive.
I have heard from my manager and other higher ups, "This product is cheaper than other things on the market," and they have done the research.
It is cost-effective. Based on our use case, it's efficient and cheap. It saves a lot of money and our upfront costs are less.
This solution has provided an inexpensive tool, and it is easy to find experienced developers.
t's incredibly cost effective, easy to learn the basics quickly (although like all ETL tools requires the traditional learning curve to get good at) and has an immense user base.

|SSIS is a package is an organized collection of connections, control flow elements, data flow elements, event handlers, variables, parameters, and configurations, that you assemble using either the graphical design tools that SQL Server Integration Services provides, or build programmatically. You then save the completed package to SQL Server, the SSIS Package Store, or the file system, or you can deploy the ssISnoversion project to the SSIS server. The package is the unit of work that is retrieved, executed, and saved.|
