Most Helpful Review
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:
It's highly scalable. It takes upon itself the Redshift scalability, so it's very good.
It has improved the costs of managing my customer’s data.
It takes less than five minutes to set up and delivers results. It is much quicker than traditional ETL technologies.
It is pretty user-friendly, even for people who aren't super technical.
It has good integrations with Amazon Redshift and other AWS services.
We allow non-technical people to use Matillion to load data into our data warehouse for reporting. Thus, it is easy enough to use that we don't always have to get a technical person involved in setting up a data movement (ETL).
It has helped us to get onto the cloud quickly.
The technical support treats us well. They already have a support portal, and they are responsive, which helps.
The most valuable features of this solution are the fast insert and fuzzy logic matching.
Built in reports show package execution and messages. Logging can also be customized so only what is needed is logged. There is also an excellent logging replacement called BiXpress that provides both historical and real-time monitoring which is more efficient and much more robust than the built-in logging capabilities. And none of this requires custom coding to make it useful unlike many other ETL tools.
This solution is easy to implement, has a wide variety of connectors, has support for Visual Basic, and supports the C language.
The initial setup of this solution is very straightforward.
The setup is straightforward. It's very easy to install.
With this solution, there is the potential to expand, so that you can immediately write code onto the SQL server.
The workflow features have been very valuable. You can have automated workflows and all the steps are controlled. The workflow functionality of integration services is excellent.
It has a drag and drop feature that makes it easy to use. It has a good user experience because it takes into account your most-used tools and they're lined up nicely so you can just drag and drop without looking too far. It also integrates nicely with Microsoft.
Ideally, I would like it to integrate with Secrets Manager as well as the AWS.
It needs integration with more data sources.
Going forward, I would like them to add custom jobs, since we still have to run these outside of Matillion.
In the next release, we would like to have connections to more databases.
To complete the pipeline, they might want to include some connectors which would put the data into different platforms. This would be helpful.
Performance can be improved for efficiency, and it can be made faster.
While the UI is good, it could be improved in its efficiency and made easier to use.
Generic processes should be used instead of custom code for each table.
You have to write push down join & lookup SQL to the database yourself via stored procedures or use of the SQL Task to get very high performance. That said, this is a common complaint for nearly all ETL tools on the market and those that offer an alternative such as Informatica offer them at a very expensive add-on price.
Tuning using this solution requires extensive expertise to improve performance.
The performance of this solution is not as good as other tools in the market.
Video training would be a helpful addition.
The solution should work on the GPU, graphical processing unit. There should also be piping integration available.
It needs more integration tools, so you can connect to different sources.
There were some issues when we tried to connect it to data storage. It was a connection issue.
Pricing and Cost Advice
The solution is very cheap. You're paying $2.50 an hour and if you set your service up, which you can do, you're not getting charged. Currently, our ETL process is just an overnight process that runs for about an hour. I can start and stop my server just for an hour if I want to and spent $2.50 a day for an ETL solution. There are no additional costs.
The AWS pricing and licensing are a cost-effective solution for data integration needs.
It was procured through the AWS Marketplace because it keeps things simple. They offer retail-like checkout and bill through your existing Amazon Web Services account.
Purchasing it through the AWS Marketplace is pretty convenient. There is a little bit of back and forth in terms of the licensing based on the machine size, but it seems to have worked out well. it is convenient to have it all as part of our AWS billing.
It is not necessarily a cheap solution. However, it's reasonable priced, especially with the smaller machines that we run it on.
The prices needs to be lower.
It was very easy to purchase through the AWS Marketplace, but it was also expensive.
I have heard from my manager and other higher ups, "This product is cheaper than other things on the market," and they have done the research.
t's incredibly cost effective, easy to learn the basics quickly (although like all ETL tools requires the traditional learning curve to get good at) and has an immense user base.
This solution is included with the MSSQL server package.
My advice is to look at what your configuration will be because most companies have their own deals with Microsoft.
This solution has provided an inexpensive tool, and it is easy to find experienced developers.

|SSIS is a package is an organized collection of connections, control flow elements, data flow elements, event handlers, variables, parameters, and configurations, that you assemble using either the graphical design tools that SQL Server Integration Services provides, or build programmatically. You then save the completed package to SQL Server, the SSIS Package Store, or the file system, or you can deploy the ssISnoversion project to the SSIS server. The package is the unit of work that is retrieved, executed, and saved.|
