"The tool's most valuable feature is its scripts. These scripts prove beneficial when security features may obscure or block connections. Nmap helps identify vulnerabilities across different systems, including web servers and various server types.""Nmap is mostly helpful during compliance checks. We run the scanner to see how many devices are on our network and find vulnerabilities in those that aren't compliant. We also use it monthly to scan our network and identify devices that aren't connected properly. This helps us detect any issues related to the operating systems of these devices.""The best feature of Nmap is that it lets me see useful information about each endpoint in my entire network environment. For example, I can see every single connection of the network as well as each and every port.""The real-time reporting feature of Nmap is particularly valuable. It generates detailed reports on the source and destination IP addresses, the protocols used, and the types of traffic.""Nmap is easy to use. It's a command-line interface, and the output is quite good.""The initial setup was simple.""From a functionality standpoint, it's robust and straightforward to comprehend.""It helps us secure the network infrastructure."

"Zabbix can use old data to current data to set the threshold. We can use previous data to set the threshold.""They've already added extra features, such as noise-canceling and facial recognition, which is great.""The best thing about Zabbix is the integration and the APIs that are included are very fast""The solution is open-source, easy to manage, and user-friendly making it easy for anyone to use.""The initial setup, while not simple, is easier than other products.""Zabbix is both stable and scalable.""The most valuable features are the monitoring and the ease with which we can set it up at customer sites with our custom Zabbix proxy and tools.""Zabbix is quite stable once it is set up. We haven't had any post-setup issues."

Cons
"The Wi-Fi side needs improvement."

More Juniper Mist Premium Analytics Cons →

"Nmap major operates through the CLI; there's no GUI component, and that's where the challenge is.""There are concerns with the stability of the product, making it an area where improvements are required.""Nmap needs to improve its scanning speed.""Customization is not very user-friendly in Nmap.""They should deliver Playtech's username and password.""The price is high and could be cheaper.""It takes a bit of time to get familiar with the solution and its options.""The solution should increase the number of features under a free license."

More Nmap Cons →

"There are not too much documentation or manuals. We found the tutorials very easy to understand but do not go deep enough in the use of Zabbix. We need more manuals, proper use, documentation, etc.""There are some features of Zabbix that are not good for reporting. The DX Spectrum solution has better reporting.""Zabbix technical support is sold separately.""For us, the initial setup was complex""Zabbix is not easy to configure, and upgrading is also an issue.""The server monitoring could be better.""When we have a problem, we have to do a lot of research to solve it.""Zabbix could improve when it comes to large-scale use cases. Additionally, the inventory could be better when connecting to other solutions, such as ServiceNow. There show to be better integration with other platforms and storage."

I have researched a quite a few network monitoring tools which can be used for various monitoring purposes of not only the servers, but the intermediate routers as well. There are majorly three types of these softwares. Ones which are completely open-source, you can do almost anything you want using these, but they require quite some expertise before you can use them. Then there are the ones that are not open source, the enterprise softwares and cost you some money, but on the other hand, they are extremely easy to set-up and learn. You can have them up and running in a matter of minutes. And then there are those which are completely cloud based. They can be free of cost or charge some money depending on the software. The good thing about these is that you don’t have to install any extra software, and it can be managed completely online but then again these have limited features and you cannot exploit them to the full extent as you can do with the open-source and to some extent the enterprise software, so I won’t suggest you to use these, because these are generally not the complete solutions and require other support software to achieve the same. Below I have listed the outstanding pros and cons of the various Network analyzers that you can look into Nagios Pros: Nagios offers an extensive set of collector plug-ins that allows users to gather performance and availability data from a broad range of operating systems, including  Windows and Netware Nagios… Read more →

Nmap ("Network Mapper") is a free and open source (license) utility for network discovery and security auditing. Many systems and network administrators also find it useful for tasks such as network inventory, managing service upgrade schedules, and monitoring host or service uptime. Nmap uses raw IP packets in novel ways to determine what hosts are available on the network, what services (application name and version) those hosts are offering, what operating systems (and OS versions) they are running, what type of packet filters/firewalls are in use, and dozens of other characteristics. It was designed to rapidly scan large networks, but works fine against single hosts. Nmap runs on all major computer operating systems, and official binary packages are available for Linux, Windows, and Mac OS X. In addition to the classic command-line Nmap executable, the Nmap suite includes an advanced GUI and results viewer (Zenmap), a flexible data transfer, redirection, and debugging tool (Ncat), a utility for comparing scan results (Ndiff), and a packet generation and response analysis tool (Nping).

Zabbix is an open-source monitoring software that provides real-time monitoring and alerting for servers, networks, applications, and services.
