For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Temenos Quantum for approximately a year and a half.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Temenos Quantum is stable provided you followed all the steps that are needed to be followed in the deployment. If the steps were not followed you can face some challenges, but normally it's stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The scalability of Temenos Quantum is good.

We have approximately 100 people using the solution in our offices. We have many different people in different roles using this solution, such as system developers, analysts, front office inquiries clerks, and system administrators.

How are customer service and support?

The support from Temenos Quantum has been helpful.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup of Temenos Quantum is complicated because there are a lot of steps to follow. If you miss one of those steps, something may go wrong. The length of time of the deployment depends on what exactly you want to deploy. In terms of some of the products that are developed in the system, it might take from three to five hours.

What about the implementation team?

We did the deployment in-house. If we face any challenge, we can escalate the issue with the consultant from Temenos Quantum.

One person can handle the maintenance of Temenos Quantum.

What other advice do I have?

My advice to others is you can customize the solutions according to their needs and the needs of the customer.

I rate Temenos Quantum a six out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Pros and Cons
  • "It is a single platform that can cater to mobile and web development requirements, making it convenient for businesses looking to transition into the digital space."
  • "There is definitely room for improvement, especially in the areas of AI, AR, and DR for mobile and web applications"

What is our primary use case?

I use Temenos Quantum for various purposes in my work. It is mainly for mobile and tablet apps, as well as web applications. We also use it as a middleware layer, which is a strong part of their software offerings. Quantum acts as our backend too, providing valuable support in the middle of our systems.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable thing about Temenos Quantum is that it serves as an all-in-one solution for a company's digital needs. It is a single platform that can cater to mobile and web development requirements, making it convenient for businesses looking to transition into the digital space. Whether it is building mobile apps, stable web applications, or even combining both, Quantum offers a wide range of features, including mobile connectivity, offline capabilities, push notifications, and more, all in one place, making it a go-to choice for digital transformation.

What needs improvement?

There is definitely room for improvement, especially in the areas of AI, AR, and DR for mobile and web applications. While it has made a start in these areas, it needs to make these technologies more affordable and keep up with the fast-paced IT sector. It is essential to stay current with the industry's rapid changes.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Temenos Quantum since 2011.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Temenos Quantum is stable and gets frequent updates. They release fixes every two weeks based on customer feedback to address any bugs, and they quickly update the platform when needed.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Temenos Quantum is scalable. You can easily add more servers and environments as needed to handle increased user loads or separate applications. It allows for flexible scaling to match your requirements. We have approximately 500 users of the solution at our company.

How are customer service and support?

Temenos Quantum does a lot of the heavy lifting in our projects, like handling security and app features. It has many out-of-the-box features that make our work easier, but sometimes, when there are issues related to the platform-specific code, we reach out to their support team for help in resolving them. The support is very good and I would rate it an eight out of ten.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I have used Xamarin before, and I find that with Temenos Quantum, I can bring new developers into the project quickly. In just a few weeks or a month, they can start coding alongside me and deliver results. Quantum is user-friendly and makes it easy for even non-professional developers to get involved and contribute to the project. It is a fast option with many out-of-the-box features, saving us from the hassle of extensive development work.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is straightforward, especially in the cloud. You get your environment provisioned, download an IDE, and connect to the cloud. From there, you can start developing your applications.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We have looked at other platforms and tools, including older systems and low-code/no-code development platforms. However, what sets Temenos Quantum apart is that it offers something unique that not everyone else provides. It was one of the pioneers in this space, has been around since 2011, and has extensive experience in mobile and web development.

What other advice do I have?

When thinking about using Temenos Quantum, focus on what you really need. If you require support for various platforms like mobile, web, tablets, reporting, and backend services in one package, it can be a good fit. But if you only need a mobile app for one specific purpose, it might not be the right choice. Consider your business needs and budget carefully before deciding. Overall, I would rate the solution an eight out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Private Cloud

If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?

Amazon Web Services (AWS)

Easy to learn and use its many features, but the licensing fees are too expensive
Pros and Cons
  • "The best feature is the Kony Studio, which is the product that is used to develop interfaces."
  • "We would like to have widgets for graphs and analytics, as well as the integration of machine learning."

What is our primary use case?

Our primary use case for this solution is the cross-platform development of mobile applications.

Nowadays, it's all about mobile apps, and they need to provide the omnichannel experience that the users want. In providing this experience, there are many mobile platforms that have to be considered, such as iOS, Android, and Windows. We need to develop apps for all of these platforms.

If we start developing applications in each of these platforms, separately, then it will take ages to complete. This solution provides a single platform where we get a single code base, and that code base is good enough to develop applications for all platforms including tablets, kiosks, and interactive channels.

How has it helped my organization?

One of the ways this has helped is that we can concentrate on the business end, which is the functionality that the customers would like to use. One of the best features is that Kony is always up to date. If a new version of an operating system, such as iOS, is about to launch, then within one week, all of the new features will be automatically downloaded and available to use. In this way, we keep ahead of the other platforms. The only thing you need to worry about is functionality.

Generally, it has helped our organization to keep up with the ever-changing customer requirements and give them the best solution in a very short span of time. I'm not talking about the waterfall model; it first perfectly with agile requirements.

What is most valuable?

The best feature is the Kony Studio, which is the product that is used to develop interfaces. It has support for mobile interfaces, desktop-based interfaces, and kiosk-based interfaces. We have a lot of different widgets available like text boxes and other UI controls that can easily be put onto the screen and start working right away.

The next feature is the Kony Fabric application, which is an integration tool. This helps me to connect to the backend. For example, if I have a backend for SAP, or an ASP.NET layer that provides me services, or a custom application that provides some kind of endpoints such as business endpoints, then Fabric can easily connect to these endpoints and provide different drag and drop features. Once it connects to the backend services and it shows what kind of data model the backend is providing, I can easily map to my front end interface using drag and drop controls in the Studio.

The third feature that I really like is the teamwork that it offers. I have an online mobile app, which I can present my application to. While I am working on the development, I can simply publish my app on that, online, and the customer can easily download that app and test it in real time. The means that the customer is fully engaged. They know what we are doing, so it builds up a lot of confidence in the customers.

What needs improvement?

This is an expensive solution, and it is the biggest challenge that we face when we present this platform to customers. They love it, but when they start asking us about the price, the questions are about the bare minimum requirements.

It restricts them based on the number of users that the mobile app is going to have. For example, 10K users will accept my mobile app, or 20K, 30K, 100K, etc. One of the problems is that in this world, estimating the number of users is tough. You don't know how many you are going to have in advance of it going live and public.

I think that the licensing should be changed to a more relaxed model for enterprise customers so that they are not worried about the number of users. They should just have a fixed price. This kind of flexibility might give more revenue to Kony and its partners, as well.

In terms of additional features, I would like to see more widgets and more flexibility in the widgets. Perhaps we can develop widgets of our own and the usability is just there. We would like to have widgets for graphs and analytics, as well as the integration of machine learning. If I can integrate machine learning to my mobile app, out of the box, then that would be great. AI capabilities are something that I would like to have in the platform. Right now, it's just a raw platform to develop apps.

For how long have I used the solution?

Two years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

If this solution is deployed right, and you have good hardware to support, for example, the backend services, and you are properly implementing caching on top of the solution, then the solution works well. But if you have bad hardware or bad networks, then you will definitely face real errors at times.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The scalability is very good but when it comes to the configuration, scaling up is a little bit tough. From what I've seen, deployment on the enterprise level and scaling up is a little bit complex. You might face a couple of days of downtime, or perhaps at best, you can get a day or two of downtime when scaling up this solution.

How are customer service and technical support?

In terms of technical support, I think that they are lacking. We faced hard times initially, and although they have videos, there are things that only Kony can provide. Things are getting better now because we have experience with the platform and we do not need their support as much. Also, their technical support is slow.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is very straightforward if you want to develop a sample application. You can develop it and get started in a very short time. In a couple of days, you're up and running for the initial, sample app.

If you want to go on to more advanced topics, Kony provides an academy where you can leverage the videos that they have created for learning. In general, it is easy to start but it can get very complex.

The deployment can take a week or two, but from our experience, it does not take more than a week. Once it is deployed, it is very easy to take it over.

The deployment team, at a minimum, might require two UI developers who can develop a good interface and one backend developer who can connect the backend services, target services, and the frontend entity.

For maintaining the deployment, we need one backend resource. This is a Linux platform and the resource needs to have database experience, as well as experience with software platforms and configuring them.

So overall, I think, a team of five can easily develop and manage an app on Kony.

What about the implementation team?

We handle the implementation and deployment of this solution for our customers.

Deploying this solution has differed based on our client's requirements. If it is an app intended only for company employees or shop customers, then it is very easy to host the app and deploy it locally. Then, once the number of customers increases, they can think about cloud solutions.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The costs are calculated per user and per month but can be paid annually. It is a recurring license. There are no costs or hidden charges in addition to the standard licensing fees.

Kony Studio is free. You can download it and start working on it. The Kony Fabric platform and the enterprise platform are what they actually charge for.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We evaluated the SAP Mobile app platform, and then Xamarin. We worked with these two platforms, but Kony is the best one for getting you up and running in a very short time. It is easy to learn, and you aren't bogged down with heavy documentation. If you want to get to market in less time, then this is the best solution and the reason that we chose it.

What other advice do I have?

There are many users for this solution, such as in the financial industry. Many banks are using it and many holding companies as well. We have worked with big customers in the Middle East, in the Pakistan region.

Overall, Kony is the best mobile platform on Gartner, where it has been at the top for the last seven years. We only deal with the best, but if there were any reason for us to switch then it would be the licensing part. In the end, our customers need the best solution, but at a low price. So this is one area which might cause us to switch, but as of now, we are good with Kony.

This is not a product for startups. Students can learn from it, but it's a product for the enterprise level.

I would rate this solution a seven out of ten.

You can do rapid development across multiple platforms, but their technical support needs improvement
Pros and Cons
  • "You can build your own customized, native, mobile applications in an efficient matter."
  • "It is an important solution for reducing the development efforts by developing a mobile application efficiently, in a shorter period of time, across multiple platforms, such as Android and iOS."
  • "You can do rapid development across multiple platforms."
  • "They need to improve their tech support's abilities. They do have a good tech support, but it still requires improvement."

What is our primary use case?

The primary use case is for mobile development.

How has it helped my organization?

You can build your own customized, native, mobile applications in an efficient matter.

What is most valuable?

It is an important solution for reducing the development efforts by developing a mobile application efficiently, in a shorter period of time, across multiple platforms, such as Android and iOS.

For how long have I used the solution?

One to three years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It is stable. They do release it in patches once in a while. So if you are upgrading those patches, it is stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It has a high scalability. I have no issues with it.

How are customer service and technical support?

I would rate their tech support as a seven out of 10. They need to improve their tech support's abilities. They do have a good tech support, but it still requires improvement.

The areas of improvement for tech support should be the knowledge of the person who is there handling the issues. Without proper knowledge, you have to go back and forth, even though you submitted a critical ticket. It has to go back and forth because every time a new person comes in and takes the ticket over, the person who is handling the technical things should have done basic documentation. This is so people who are taking over the case will have a better understanding rather than starting from the beginning.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We previously used a native development. With native development, the costs are high, you have to develop the Android and iOS applications separately. Kony provides a universal solution, that is why we chose it.

What about the implementation team?

The Kony team typically is supposed to work with the infrastructure to set it up. They did a good job.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The price is too high. The annual cost for the Kony license is very high.  Every year you have to renew it in order to maintain it

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

Besides Kony, we evaluated IBM MobileFirst and native development. We chose Kony.

What other advice do I have?

You can do rapid development across multiple platforms.

What needs improvement?

The technology of the solution needs an update. It is deficient in terms of connectivity.

For how long have I used the solution?

Three to five years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution is stable.

How is customer service and technical support?

There is a good tech support team. They can resolve any issues, at all hours. They take responsibility to be expedient and professional.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

It is competitive in terms of cost.

We are able to mask client requests and the responses to prevent MitM attacks

What is our primary use case?

I worked on a banking app (Mobile and Web) built on Kony. We used Kony Studio 6.0 and KMF (Kony MobileFabric) for this solution. After that, we migrated the entire application in Kony Visualizer.

How has it helped my organization?

It helps us focus on continually improving our technology and keeping up with the latest developments.

What is most valuable?

We masked the client request and sent it to KMF using RSA. The same goes for all responses of API which were encrypted and masked to be read by the client app. This was done for man-in-the-middle attacks.

What needs improvement?

The product needs more native features.

For how long have I used the solution?

Three to five years.
