Provides diverse solutions including multiple replications of backup data
Pros and Cons
  • "One of my favorite features of the Acronis backup product is the ability to replicate the backups. Backup data can be replicated to a second, third, or even fourth data source."
  • "One of the areas where the product could be improved is its online cloud backup. I do appreciate the way the product is easy to navigate, however, sometimes I have difficulty managing the security permissions on my backups."

What is our primary use case?

As a managed IT services provider, we have a wide array of clients with very diverse backup needs. These clients range from small mom and pop shops to individual users to retailers to Fortune 500 companies. Each of these clients has a vastly different approach when it comes to backups.

What is most valuable?

We chose Acronis as our backup solution because of the diversity in the types of backups it can provide.

One of my favorite features of the Acronis backup product is the ability to replicate the backups. Backup data can be replicated to a second, third, or even fourth data source.

What needs improvement?

One of the areas where the product could be improved is its online cloud backup. I do appreciate the way the product is easy to navigate, however, sometimes I have difficulty managing the security permissions on my backups.

For how long have I used the solution?

More than five years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

While using Acronis I have not encountered any issues with stability.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Acronis backup scales very well, and I use it in many different cases from single users to Fortune 500 companies.

How are customer service and support?

The level of technical support is very good. I would give them a nine out of 10.

Part of the reason we selected Acronis as our backup solution is their amazing support and installation. It is easy to deploy products anywhere in the world, across our wide variety of clients, and the support is right there for us if we need help with anything.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I have used other solutions, such as Norton Backup and Arcserve. Acronis is by far the most cost-effective.

How was the initial setup?

The setup could not be easier. It installs without fail in 100 percent of my setups.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I advise my clients to seriously look at the cloud offering because the hardware to have a good onsite backup is still pricey.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I did not look at any other products.

What other advice do I have?

I would suggest to anyone using this product to take advantage of the support and the advanced features such as replication of their backup set.

Saves money and time, easy to use for restoring data, and very stable
Pros and Cons
  • "It is easy to use. I don't need any help to figure out how to do it. It is also very easy to install and upgrade. It is very simple and easy to use for restoring. It supports universal restoration. I can restore a full machine to another hardware with this, which is a very good feature."
  • "It will be good if Acronis can provide more documentation and videos describing how to do different things. Their documentation is good, but it is without examples. They don't have lots of videos. They should put more videos on YouTube to show how to set up certain things, how to restore, and how to back up. They should provide step-by-step documentation and videos for specific scenarios. I would like them to improve the command line feature. The command line is not working smoothly, and there is some problem with it. If the command line is improved, it will take the product to the next level. It would be great if it can back up data from storage so that people are able to back up old data. Such a feature will make it an enterprise solution for a full backup."

What is our primary use case?

We use it for the backup of user machines. We have a lot of machines, and I use it daily to monitor, check, and do upgrades and make sure that everything is working properly.

How has it helped my organization?

It saves money and time. I have some machines with a very complex setup. It takes, for example, one week to set up a machine. In case the machine fails, instead of installing it again in one week, I can restore it in one hour. So, it saves time, and we don't have to bring people again to set up the machine.

What is most valuable?

It is easy to use. I don't need any help to figure out how to do it. It is also very easy to install and upgrade.

It is very simple and easy to use for restoring. It supports universal restoration. I can restore a full machine to another hardware with this, which is a very good feature.

What needs improvement?

It will be good if Acronis can provide more documentation and videos describing how to do different things.

Such a feature will make it an enterprise solution for a full backup.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using this solution for more than six years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It is very stable. If I need to restore something, it perfectly completes the mission.

How are customer service and technical support?

Their support is very good and professional. I opened a case through our management site, and they called me. They followed up through emails to ensure that everything is okay.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I didn't use any other solution.

How was the initial setup?

It is easy to deploy. I don't even need to use the documentation to do it. It does not take a lot of time. A new server takes half a day.

Its deployment is very easy with Active Directory or via the management console. You can control and monitor where it fails. It is very easy to use and understand. I just play with the interface, and it is very easy to do things.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I am not the one who is paying for it, but based on what I know, it is not very expensive. It has a good price.

What other advice do I have?

I would advise others to go to the site and download it for free for 13 days and play with it. It is a very good solution that makes your life easier. The people behind this product are very smart, and they are thinking about the end-user.

I would rate Acronis Cyber Protect Cloud a nine out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

It runs great, works well, and the tech support is fantastic

What is most valuable?

It provides reliability and the confidence when a server disaster happens, that the product is actually doing what it says it's doing. For example, we have a backup of our servers. It's the only important thing in a backup software, at least for a company our size, is that we actually get our data backed.

Normally, I don't care how long it takes to get the data. It's important to a point, but ultimately, as long as the data comes back, that's all that we care about.

Acronis has curved out a really good name for themselves and they're a trusted backup software system, and it's mainly from reliability. That's the main reason why we use it. It lets you know if anything has gone wrong with the server. It'll email you.

They have online cloud support. Basically, it allows you to monitor multiple servers from one location, so they've their control panel/dashboard, which allows you to monitor more than one server. So, we've got three primary servers, then I use one of those as control dashboards to get in and go look at see what's going on with the other servers. It lets me call up programs real quick.

When you come in the morning, it will tell you if it made the night's backups the night before, which is really cool. You can do validation. That's one of the best features that's available with it: validations.

That means when you make a backup, they've got this thing where you can validate the backup and Acronis tells you whether or not the backup is valid. You're not just recording garbage. This would be one of the big advantages of using it. They have some centralized vaults and personal vaults, paid management, disk management, and mounted images. They allow you to make an ISO image of the server which you're working on.

A super big feature: If a server crashes, you just can't go back in there, because everything you've had on it crashed. So Acronis lets you create a CD. It's called an ISO CD. It's an imaging CD, and you drop that in the server. That lets you back into the server environment through Acronis to get Acronis set back up on that machine. This is what is critical to the whole thing, because you got to have a way back into the environment so that you can rebuild the server.

How has it helped my organization?

I can sleep at night. Seriously, that's important for an IT system's administrator, knowing that the data which we're doing our day-to-day business on is being backed up nightly. If we lost our software that we run on, it is around $120,000, and if we lose that, we're pretty much up the creek. So Acronis backs that up, it validates the backup, and I know, the backups which we have are supposedly good.

What needs improvement?

They have cloud storage technology. The problem with it, it's slow. Say if all of our backups here failed, like the week back up locally to tape drives and different types of masses, and we store our data locally here where I'm at in RPI. However, say lightning hit the building, the servers blew up, everything was bad/corrupted, and I had to go buy a new server. So a new server shows, so how do I get my data back? Then, I would have to connect through Acronis Cloud.

Now, I can get the data back; however, the amount data that I got to get back is so big that I would actually end up telling them, "Okay, you know what? Record the data to a tape and mail me the tape. Or, mail me the backup on a giant flash drive or some type of hard media that I could get back from them."

Because the data that companies are backing up nowadays, it's so big even if you have high speed internet, it's still not big enough. It would probably take me three days to get the backup downloaded. It takes a really long time to get really big backups back from the cloud.

That's not Acronis's problem, that's the Internet's problem. If we all get fiber optics internet, that would solve it.

That only thing that's bad about the company... the naming of their product. The names that they have for their products are insane: Acronis Backup, Acronis Backup 10.5, Acronis Backup 11, Acronis Backup 11.5, Acronis Backup for Windows, Acronis Backup Advanced, Acronis Backup Advanced 11.5, and Acronis Backup 12.5 Server. It gets the customer confused. That's the issue I have was with the naming of their product. Once you know the product, you need and you actually get the product, it's perfect. It runs great, works well, and the tech support is fantastic.

For how long have I used the solution?

For the last four years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I've never had a problem with Acronis crashing. The product is completely stable. Speed might help, but it backs up within the proper parameters of what it's doing. So, I don't know what else you would actually do to try to improve with it.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

If you're looking for a scalable tool, Acronis is definitely the way to go. They've pretty much thought about just about everything. Even it emails you at night, I know every step of the way what's going on. It gives me all of the server information as it's making the backup. I've got to get a really good disaster plan back up. You can even get an email telling you how the steps to actually reinstall the system once it goes down. Thus, their disaster recovery program is real good, too.

How are customer service and technical support?

Excellent. They have excellent tech support people.

I wish all the companies were like them. I always get a live person in a timely fashion. If they don't know the answer, they've got another Tier 2 tech support that they can go to and ask. They have always answered a question when asked.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I used to run Microsoft Backup. It was built into every single copy of the Windows server. The problem with this (everybody knows about this) is they require you to use a floppy disk. Nobody has floppy disks anymore, you have to buy a USB floppy disk to get the little files saved and that the entire backup to depends on.

When it was time to make an upgrade, I used a variety of different programs. Backing up stuff in a server environment is different than backing up a home computer, so I mainly went with the Acronis product, because they're world-renowned for server backups and if you need a reliable backup you go to Acronis. I don't know what else anybody else would want. I know Symantec has a couple of different backup products, but I don't think they're as reliable as Acronis.

I discovered Acronis when I started doing some research on backups and my father-in-law, who was an IT guy, he was like, "You should put Acronis on that system." I was like, "Well, all right, I'll go check it out." So, I did a lot of research on it, then I just ended up picking Acronis. After reading about what they do and how they do stuff, it just seemed like the right company to pick.

How was the initial setup?

It's literally, click setup, enter, and that's it. It'll install it. It does everything. It installs Acronis machine services. That's what runs on the servers.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

Symantec was the other choice, it and Retrospect. But I don't use Retrospect for server backups. I wouldn't trust it for that. I trust it for file backups, but not for server backups.

What other advice do I have?

Buy it sooner than later. If you don't have a backup solution or a disaster recovery program in your company, you're flirting with disaster.

The tool is really important for me, because I have my job because of this program and making sure that we can restore the company. It's a big deal when you lose server capability.

Restores files accidentally deleted by developers and efficiently blocked a lot of attacks against our servers
Pros and Cons
  • "It covers the need to block threats, investigate incidents, and ensure disaster recovery. This approach aligns well with current cybersecurity trends."
  • "I keep submitting a request for more flexible reporting. I'd like to create custom reports in my own way, rather than just combining the pre-defined modules."

What is our primary use case?

It is primarily for the backups of the company's servers and for the backup of some critical workstations.

I also use it for personal use and manage it for the clients I provide services to.

How has it helped my organization?

Its integrated cybersecurity capabilities have improved the security posture. Before Acronis, we used different security vendors like ESET, Avast, Avira, and Webroot. After switching to Acronis Cyber Protect Cloud, it found threats inside the systems that the previous software did not recognize. We thought we didn't have any malware, but actually, we did.

What is most valuable?

The backup, the vulnerability assessment, and the anti-malware capabilities have been most impactful for data protection.

Acronis approaches cybersecurity holistically, focusing on five key pillars:

  1. Protection
  2. Detection
  3. Response
  4. Recovery
  5. Forensics

It covers the need to block threats, investigate incidents, and ensure disaster recovery. This approach aligns well with current cybersecurity trends, including backups and deploying Malware Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR) systems alongside Security Orchestration, Automation, and Response (SOAR) systems.

While it doesn't yet include features like password management or security awareness training for end-users, Acronis has announced plans to integrate those in upcoming updates.

What needs improvement?

There's always room for improvement. However, I follow Acronis's announcements closely. They've already released MDR (Managed Detection and Response), Advanced EDR, and announced XDR and security awareness training for end-users. So, Acronis actively improves the product.

Moreover, I keep submitting a request for more flexible reporting. I'd like to create custom reports in my own way, rather than just combining the pre-defined modules.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been working with this product for the past five years, the whole suite of Acronis Cyber Protect Cloud.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I would rate the stability an eight out of ten. Acronis did mass updates with new features and bug fixes. This caused some instability in the previous months.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I would rate the scalability a nine out of ten. In the organization there are 140 users rely on it for patch management and monitoring. We also cover around 60 servers with backup capabilities.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I use quite a few products from Acronis, including Acronis Cyber Protect and more. Since, I am a service provider, I use the whole suite of  Acronis.

How was the initial setup?

The whole platform is very easy and quick to implement. You install the agents on the machines – if there are multiple machines, you can use push installation for mass deployment.

Then, through the console, you see all the machines and add them to protection plans together at the same time. In less than four hours, you can have the agents set up, protection plans applied, and the software actively protecting the client's machines.

So, it's very quick to start onboarding clients. Afterward, you can implement more advanced configurations, which might take a bit longer.

What was our ROI?

I can safely claim that within a year, we fully recovered the money we invested in the solution and its licensing (the cost of the software) costs. We saved significantly in several ways:

  • Data Recovery: Quickly restoring files accidentally deleted by developers.
  • Downtime Prevention: We also experienced minimal downtime, just a few minutes, because we maintained the solution.
  • Threat Protection: The solution blocked a lot of attacks against our servers, like RDP exploits or malware-laden email attachments. Since these attacks were blocked and no data was lost—thanks to a lot of backup options—we were able to restore everything. Had any of these incidents resulted in data loss, it would have cost us thousands of euros, far exceeding the initial investment.

So, it's worth the money.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The product is not expensive. It's in the middle. For its capabilities, it's on the affordable side.

People might find basic backup solutions that are cheaper, but they lack the features and expandability of Acronis Cyber Protect Cloud. It's best to compare apples to apples.

Overall, the pricing is logical and affordable, particularly given its scalability and modular design.

What other advice do I have?

I would recommend using it one hundred percent!

I'd emphasize the importance of disaster preparedness. You need a "next-day" scenario – that means backup and disaster recovery with historical data. Acronis fully covers that.

To avoid a lot of bad situations like ransomware, malware, and accidental data loss, you also need proactive measures. That's where Acronis's Advanced Security features, email security, patch management, vulnerability assessment, and monitoring come in. By using the whole console, you maximize protection, keep systems updated, and have that critical next-day recovery plan.

Even in physical disasters – floods, fires – having offsite disaster recovery through Acronis can mean the difference between business continuity or losing everything.

So, my motto is always be prepared. Proactively protect your systems and have backup and disaster recovery in place. In the worst-case scenario, cloud disaster recovery is your lifeline.

Overall, I would rate this product a nine out of ten.
