What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I would rate the stability of this solution as a four out of five.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I would rate the scalability as a three out of five.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was easy because we learned about Cisco routers and switches in school, so we are familiar with them and have certification on the equipment.

What about the implementation team?

The deployment didn't trouble us much. Our in-house IT team of two or three engineers handled it, and it took us about a week. We prepared in advance, and we implemented the configuration once the equipment was acquired. I think it might take two weeks to deploy on a large network.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

We pay for our license annually. If it could be cheaper that would be good, but I would rate it as a four out of five for price, with one being very expensive and five being very affordable.

What other advice do I have?

I would rate this solution as a seven out of ten. I would recommend this product to others.

Easy to set up, reliable, and has pretty good technical support
Pros and Cons
  • "They are the best in failover switches. Their product line is excellent."
  • "Depending on the customer, the initial setup could be complex."

What is our primary use case?

We primarily use the solution for the router. It could be H branches router, the MPLS router. or the border gateways router.

How has it helped my organization?

The routing aspect itself has improved the way our client's organizations are run.

What is most valuable?

We don't necessarily give a lot of interest to the various aspects of the solution as Cisco has dedicated devices for a bunch of features. That said, routing is in the running.

They are the best in failover switches. Their product line is excellent.

What needs improvement?

We don't really see any places where Cisco is lacking. They are quite reliable.

A specific client may have specific needs. There may be features they need that Cisco may not have. Each organization is unique in that sense.

It would be nice if Cisco had the capability for packet capture.

Depending on the customer, the initial setup could be complex.

Technical support could be slightly more responsive.

For how long have I used the solution?

We've used the solution for more than five years at this point. It's been a while.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

We've used other technologies that have given us issues, however, we've had very few problems with Cisco. It's quite a reliable product.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Whether the solution scales well depends on the client and the model they've chosen to work with. Some customers have certain requirements and will need to work with certain models in order to get the scalability they desire.

We usually do some analysis and we only provide recommendations based on future goals or future requirements, instead of anything else. That way, we're prepared for an expansion.

We typically support small or medium companies. We don't typically deal with enterprise-level organizations. If we do deal with enterprises, it is only for support and not for implementation.

How are customer service and technical support?

I'm an engineer. I do my best not to call support. My job is to resolve issues to whatever I can do. I don't like relying on customer support, or support from the vendor. That's not appreciated from the customer side. What's the point of hiring an engineer, otherwise? That said, in the rare instances I do, they have always been very helpful. They are responsive and knowledgeable. I'm very satisfied with them so far. Overall, I would rate them at an eight out of ten.

They could slightly improve on their response time. However, sometimes the issue is that it is difficult to explain. I'm an engineer and I'm on the field, deploying and configuring. Tech support it's only resolving cases based on the database. They start looking for that in the database. Often, whatever recommendation they do, it's not that big of a fix as they just "find" the problem and I resolve it.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

While we tend to always recommend Cisco, if a client doesn't have the budget for the solution, they may choose something else.

How was the initial setup?

Our customers are mostly based in the UK. They are not that big. They're rather small companies. They don't require a complex deployment. Therefore, we didn't find the initial setup complex. For us, it was pretty straightforward.

What other advice do I have?

We're a Cisco partner.

We use the service cloud routers as well.

In terms of versions, the company has recently changed from IOS to XE. We're using the latest version of the solution.

We're deployed both on-premises and on private clouds. We deploy this for our clients, and therefore the deployment model depends on their requirements.

I'd recommend the solution. If a company decides to go with a Cisco router, they are making a wise decision.

In general, I would rate the solution at a nine out of ten.

Reliable devices for the enterprise, with good technical support
Pros and Cons
  • "The stability is very good."
  • "Performance is one area that could be improved. The stability of the devices is great, but performance-wise we find that upgrading the memory or changing the device entirely is sometimes necessary."

What is our primary use case?

We are a reseller of Cisco Enterprise Routers with around 10 clients using Cisco's enterprise equipment. The deployment model (on-prem, cloud, etc.) varies between the different clients and the routers are mainly used for either routing or Voice over IP. We also work with D-Link and HP in addition to Cisco.

What is most valuable?

The stability is very good.

What needs improvement?

Performance is one area that could be improved. The stability of the devices is great, but performance-wise we find that upgrading the memory or changing the device entirely is sometimes necessary.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been dealing with Cisco Enterprise Routers for almost 20 years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The stability of Cisco Enterprise Routers is very good, although sometimes there are issues with performance, or IP wastage. Usually, we are able to overcome performance issues by upgrading memory or changing the device, if need be. In most cases, when you do upgrade the memory or other components, it usually sorts itself out.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The scalability is okay.

How are customer service and support?

The technical support of Cisco is generally quite good and I can recommend reaching out to them for help.

How was the initial setup?

Sometimes the initial setup can be complicated, depending on the complexity of the network. In general, however, we are able to manage.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Normally, we pay for the licenses upfront. I think it's mostly just a perpetual, once-off license.

What other advice do I have?

Cisco Enterprise Routers are good. I can't rate them ten out of ten, but I wouldn't hesitate to give them a nine out of ten.

I have found valuable how it can be used to implement many protocols across a variety of environments
Pros and Cons
  • "The feature that I have found most valuable is its ability to implement layer three protocols and layer two protocols like OSPS in BSS and BSC environments, with the Nexus Cisco 7000."
  • "It would be good if Cisco Enterprise Routers could improve their integration with other vendors. For example the AGLP protocol is supported by Cisco and not by any other vendors."

What is our primary use case?

I manage Cisco Routing and Cisco Switching.

What is most valuable?

The feature that I have found most valuable is its ability to implement layer three protocols and layer two protocols like OSPS in BSS and BSC environments with the Nexus Cisco 7000.

What needs improvement?

It would be good if Cisco Enterprise Routers could improve their integration with other vendors. For example the AGLP protocol is supported by Cisco and not by any other vendors.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Cisco Enterprise Routers for three years.

Three years with Cisco, four years with HP, and about three years with Fortinet.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Cisco Enterprise Routers' stability is very good.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Cisco Enterprise Routers' scalability is very good.

How are customer service and technical support?

Cisco's technical support is very good. Additionally, their documentation manuals are very good.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is easy.

What other advice do I have?

The Cisco approach is very common. On a scale of one to ten I would give Cisco Enterprise Routers an eight.

Stable and used across a variety of industries
Pros and Cons
  • "Cisco is a good product that is stable."
  • "We need better pricing and support."

What is our primary use case?

We are using the Cisco product in the core Banking industries, and Linksys products are being used in educational institutes and small enterprises.

We are using Cisco switches as a core switch in the Education sector, such as engineering colleges or in small colleges but in the main colleges, we are using the Cisco switches.

The primary use case of this solution is for parallel branches in the banking sector for the cloud and with IPSec.

What needs improvement?

With Cisco Linksys, we need better pricing. Cisco is an expensive product, much more so that other products, such as those by HP.

The Cisco Switches and Routers price should be reduced.

We need better pricing and support.

For Cisco Routers, we need better pricing, better implementation, and support.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been selling Cisco Linksys Switches for 15 years.

There are only a few models available in India. Nowadays, we are selling Cisco with Linksys.

We are selling Cisco Wi-Fi routers and switches under the name of Linksys, and other products are available under the Cisco branding.

I have been selling Cisco Enterprise Routers for approximately 16 years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Both the switches and routers are stable products.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

In India, 50% of the customers are using Cisco and the other 50% are using other products.

We plan to continue selling Cisco Routers, as it's a never-ending demand from our customers.

How are customer service and technical support?

The Cisco line support is not good in India. It takes too long. You can email or go live, but it takes more time to get support from Cisco.

How was the initial setup?

The installation of Cisco Switches or Routers is never easy.

They are command line only, while other routers have a GUI, which is easier to install.

The deployment of the router can take anywhere from one hour to three days.

The switches can take four hours.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Linksys products are cheaper than Cisco Switches.

Cisco Switches are an expensive product in India.

What other advice do I have?

Cisco is the number one brand in India. I would recommend this product.

Cisco is a good product that is stable. However, because of pricing, customers go with other brands.

I would rate Cisco a nine out of ten.

Good performance and the DNA is expected to improve security
Pros and Cons
  • "We achieve good performance in our data center."
  • "We would like to see the security improved."

What is our primary use case?

We use these routers in our data centers, in several places.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable feature is the Cisco DNA (Digital Network Architecture).

We achieve good performance in our data center. We are connected to the other locations via remote lines and the capacity is lower than what is supported by the equipment. Clearly, the equipment is good.

What needs improvement?

We would like to see the security improved.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using this solution for about fifteen years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

To this point, this has been a stable solution.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The scalability has been ok until now.

How are customer service and technical support?

We work with a consultant firm for our technical support.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We have always used Cisco equipment. Cisco is known worldwide by everyone and most people know what they stand for.

How was the initial setup?

The complexity of the solution depends on what you are going to implement.

Just routing the internet into our location is simple and straightforward. It's always through the MPLS, which means that we don't need to be aware of things other than configuring the firewall.

The setup can be quite difficult, but that's the way Cisco likes to do it. That's why we need to hire extra people from the outside to come and help.

We are still in the process of deploying this solution.

What about the implementation team?

We are using consultants to assist us with our deployment and they are very qualified to do this setup.

What other advice do I have?

The Cisco name guarantees that it is a good product and it meets most of the demands.

We expect that Cisco DNA will solve the problems that we had in terms of security. It was quite difficult before, with the 802.1X. Now, it is more flexible.

I would rate this solution an eight out of ten.
