What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

There are three hundred people who are using this product in my team.

How are customer service and support?

We are satisfied with the technical support from Cisco.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

Prior to this, we used switches by D-Link. We changed because the D-Link is not a manageable switch and it has a lot of limitations. It cannot be configured to the same extent.

How was the initial setup?

It is easy to set up because it only requires that you plug it in. After that, it will start working, as long as your network is not too complex. You have the option to specifically configure it to your network, as well.

What about the implementation team?

I sometimes deploy this product myself, but other times, we have a company that works with us and they configure the services. We have ten technicians who can work on these switches.

What other advice do I have?

This is a good product to use and I recommend it.

I would rate this solution an eight out of ten.

Easy to scale, provides good security, and we are happy with the support
    Pros and Cons
    • "What matters most to me is the security of the product, and Cisco does a pretty good job."
    • "Technical documents and other configuration-related information should be more freely available online."

What is our primary use case?

I support clients who are doing software development and they have their own servers, so we maintain the Cisco network for them. These switches are what they use in the network infrastructure.

These are small startups that cannot be on the cloud because of local government regulations. As such, they need to have their own switches and routers.

    What is most valuable?

What matters most to me is the security of the product, and Cisco does a pretty good job.

    What needs improvement?

The Cisco deployment instructions are not very easily available outside of the certification courses. It would be a very good thing if somebody without Cisco certification could learn the system. If Cisco adopted a more open-source mindset, I would personally prefer that.

Technical documents and other configuration-related information should be more freely available online.

The user interface can be improved, although I cannot specifically suggest in which ways. Simply put, anything can be made more intuitive. Even the Apple iPhone can be made better.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Cisco Linksys Switches for seven years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Cisco is a very stable product. I don't know anybody on the planet who says that Cisco makes unstable systems

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

This is a very scalable product. That is the biggest reason we deploy Cisco. It's very easy to scale up. We have about 500 users that might connect to the network.

How are customer service and technical support?

We are very happy with the support service. I have no concerns with them.

    How was the initial setup?

The deployment, testing, and auditing of a new network will take from two to three days to complete.

    What about the implementation team?

Our in-house team handles the installation. Once it is complete, I take care of the next steps.

What other advice do I have?

Overall, we are very happy with Cisco products and I recommend these switches.

I would rate this solution a nine out of ten.

A robust solution for networking that can scale easily
    Pros and Cons
    • "The most valuable feature of Cisco routers is that they are robust."
    • "Having the option for a web-based interface would be an improvement over being forced to use the CLI."

What is our primary use case?

We are a tech services company and this is one of the solutions that we provide to our customers.

The primary use case for Cisco Linksys Ethernet Switches is for networking in a data center, or campus networking.

    What is most valuable?

The most valuable feature of Cisco routers is that they are robust. One of our customers has a switch that has been running for more than ten years without any issues.

    What needs improvement?

Having the option for a web-based interface would be an improvement over being forced to use the CLI. This is especially true for the high-end switches.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been dealing with these switches for quite some time.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Stability-wise, I think that they are good. I haven't had any issues with them.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The switches are all easy to scale. No problem there.

How are customer service and technical support?

I have contacted technical support before and they are not so bad. The response time is quite good. Overall, I would say that they are average.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I have used switches by Cisco, D-Link, and Dell. The D-Link switches are not as robust and sometimes lose their configuration. The Dell switches are similar but cheaper than Cisco.

Overall, Cisco is the best switch.

    How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is straightforward. It's not so difficult.

The length of time for deployment depends on what you are doing and how much configuration is required. If it is plug and play then it won't take long, but if you have to configure the switch and use the CLI then it will take longer.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Cisco switches are a little expensive when it comes to the price. We are starting to phase out of the sale of these because of the higher price.

Cisco licenses are renewed every year.

What other advice do I have?

My advice for anyone who is considering this type of solution is to first consider the budget. Dell switches are cheaper and they do almost the same thing as Cisco.

I would rate this solution an eight out of ten.

Scalable And Stable With Great Security Features for SMBs
    Pros and Cons
    • "I have found their security features the most valuable. These security features are supported on most of the other features. Similarly, the protocols and the standards are supported on other features, such as the stacking feature, the availability feature, internet channel, link application, and protocols. There are so many features on these features."
    • "It would be nice if they can provide support for local authentication protocol, which is a security feature. It is not supported right now. They already support security features, so adding some local authentication features would be very nice. Currently, they only support external databases for the stuff for the authentication feature. If they could improve the existing feature or add a feature to support local databases, local username, password authentication, I think it would be very amazing."

What is our primary use case?

The primary use cases are for SMBs inside the local area networks and for a LAN switch near two or three switches.

    What is most valuable?

I have found their security features the most valuable. These security features are supported on most of the other features. Similarly, the protocols and the standards are supported on other features, such as the cascading feature, the availability feature, and protocols.

    What needs improvement?

It would be nice if they can provide support for local authentication protocol, which is a security feature. It is not supported for 802.1X feature. They already support security features, so adding some local authentication features would be very nice.

Actually this should be done by Belkin, as you know Belkin acquired Linksys from Cisco Systems on 2013, so it would be nice if Linksys or Belkin could do these enhancements.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using the Cisco Ethernet Switches for about 20 years. I have used the Cisco 1900 series switches, the lower end switches up to 6500 series, and also the Linksys switches.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Cisco and Linksys Ethernet Switches both are stable. They do a relatively stable job.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Cisco Linksys Ethernet Switches are scalable, and they support stacking like feature that's called cascading.

How are customer service and technical support?

It depends completely on your agreement or your contract type.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

    How was the initial setup?

The initial setup of Cisco switches is actually complex. But Linksys switches are easy to setup, that's why I recommend using these devices in SMB environments.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

From cost and pricing perspective, they are relatively cheaper than Cisco switches.

What other advice do I have?

I would recommend this product. I have experience in using just Cisco switches, so I don't think that I'm going to replace them with any other vendor and use something else. But for SMBs, I think Belkin or Linksys switches are also fine, because their lower cist and also features they support.

I would rate Linksys Ethernet Switches a ten out of ten for SMB environments.

Stable with good pricing and a simple setup
    Pros and Cons
    • "The installation process is straightforward."
    • "The licensing could be simplified."

What is our primary use case?

We primarily use the solution for switches.

    What is most valuable?

    Linksys is stable.

In SMB customers the price is good.

With Cisco, clients have a lifetime warranty.

The features have been done very well.

There isn't any further development required at this time. It's a good solution and it's doing very well.

    The installation process is straightforward.

    What needs improvement?

The only thing is that the sizing is important in Linksys. If the sizing is wrong, you can run into issues.

    The licensing could be simplified.

For how long have I used the solution?

We've been using the solution for five years.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

With the solution, it's all about the sizing. the sizing for the client needs to be right.

We have 15 to 20 customers on this solution currently.

How are customer service and support?

We've dealt with technical support in the past. Normally, if the access switch has some issues, we have to contact support. They give good support. We are quite satisfied with them.

Even their hardware replacement is also good.

Even in RMA, they can give you delivery within two or three days, and sometimes on the same day.

They are very fast and quite knowledgeable.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

All of our SMB customers are using only SG switches, such as Cisco SG switches or Linksys switches. Those switches are running products in the market. It is a stock-and-sell solution. In the last five or six years, we have started a networking business, and from that day we have been working with SG. We've been working with Catalyst and Cisco Nexus for three years and Huawei and other Enterprise solutions, five or six years.

    How was the initial setup?

We find the implementation to be very straightforward and simple. It's not overly complex or difficult.

Clients are using it as an access switch and it doesn't take much time. You need to just connect to the network and put in a few commands to VLAN or use VLAN tagging. One day is more than enough for implementation. It's very fast.

One engineer is enough for deployment and maintenance.

    What about the implementation team?

As integrators, we can handle the implementation process for clients.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The pricing is very reasonable. We have no complaints.

The licensing is subscription-based. The renewal can be a little bit tricky. That said, it is industry standard practice.

What other advice do I have?

    We're an integrator of Linksys.

I'd rate the solution at an eight out of ten.

I would definitely recommend this product to other companies or end-users.

Reliable and easy to set up, but pricing should be more competitive
    Pros and Cons
    • "The most valuable feature is stability."
    • "It's an old tool that needs to be more competitive with other solutions that are available on the market such as HP, or Dell."

What is our primary use case?

We use these switches to run our ERP software.

    What is most valuable?

The most valuable feature is stability.

    What needs improvement?

The pricing could be improved or reduced.

It's an old tool that needs to be more competitive with other solutions that are available on the market such as HP, or Dell.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Cisco Linksys Ethernet Switches for approximately six years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

    It's a stable solution.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Cisco Linksys Ethernet Switches are scalable.

How are customer service and technical support?

I have not contacted technical support.

    How was the initial setup?

    The initial setup was straightforward.

It only took a couple of days to deploy.

    What about the implementation team?

We have an external team to manage the switches. We outsource a team for maintenance.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Pricing should be more competitive. There are other switches that are cheaper.

What other advice do I have?

I would recommend Cisco Linksys Ethernet Switches to others who want to start using it.

I would rate this solution a seven out of ten.

The Cisco SFE2000 24-port 10/100 Ethernet Switch offers exceptional performance at a very low price point. Limited warranty might be a concern for some but at the price point that it is at, its hard to find a better solution.

    Valuable Features:

What I find truly remarkable about Linksys Ethernet switches is that it offers great value at an unbeatable price point. We have been using Linksys ethernet switches for the past four years and it just gets the job done at a very low price. With Cisco acquiring Linksys and repackaging it as Cisco Small Business, that just attests to how good this product line is and the value that it brings to your business. This also validated our decision to go for Linksys switches for our mainstream work group switches before we decided to go for Cisco Catalyst. We are still using the old Linksys-branded SLM224G4 as well as the Cisco-branded SFE2000 24-port ethernet switches. Aesthetically, the old Linksys switches look better than the new ones.

    Room for Improvement:

It's hard to write something negative about a product that just works at a low price point. However, the only thing that probably set us aback with the Linksys switches is that there were some in the same purchase batch that did not last long. Sad to say, the shops that we purchased it from only gave us one year warranty and we had to replace it by buying a new one. If there one thing I find negative about this product, it's got to be the warranty. I say this as we also have HP ProCurve switches and it has lifetime warranty albeit at double the price of Linksys switches.

    Other Advice:

Overall, I would highly recommend this product. At the price point that it is at, if offers excellent value and performance for your business. What's more compelling is that it is not backed by Cisco.
