Stable, scalable, and a complete package with RMM, patching, and useful containment engine
Pros and Cons
  • "They offer the whole package. Remote monitoring and management (RMM) is included with it, which is pretty nice. They also have Windows patching and third-party patching. It was easy to use for protection. The containment engine was pretty nice for securing our environment."
  • "They need to just modernize the infrastructure with something that is next-generation. We have recently moved to SentinelOne. It had been doing good for us for a while, but we needed something modern with new technology."

What is our primary use case?

We used it for protecting the endpoints of our enterprise against threats. We were using its latest version. We have recently moved to SentinelOne.

What is most valuable?

They offer the whole package. Remote monitoring and management (RMM) is included with it, which is pretty nice. They also have Windows patching and third-party patching.

It was easy to use for protection. The containment engine was pretty nice for securing our environment.

What needs improvement?

They need to just modernize the infrastructure with something that is next-generation. We have recently moved to SentinelOne. It had been doing good for us for a while, but we needed something modern with new technology.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using this solution for around five years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It is a stable solution. It was used every day.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It is scalable. We had three or two users who accessed the interface as administrators.

How are customer service and technical support?

Their technical support was average.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We have recently moved to SentinelOne. We went to something that uses AI to augment detection and prevention. It is a bit of a different approach from one security product to the other. The other one has the approach of denying first and then only allowing what you approve.

How was the initial setup?

It was pretty much straightforward. We have been using it for over five years. In the beginning, it was an onsite console. Then, we moved to the cloud console. Our move was gradual. We were just moving one endpoint after the other to the new platform. It took us weeks.

What about the implementation team?

We did it ourselves.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

It was about 35 or 40 bucks per year for the endpoint.

What other advice do I have?

I would advise using the default policy is to start with and then adjusting it according to your environment.

I would rate Comodo Advanced Endpoint Protection an eight out of ten.

Effective heuristics make for better ransomware protection
Pros and Cons
  • "If you open up an application or a web browser, it puts a container in a sandbox area. So if there's some malicious code, it'll stick there. It also has way better protection for ransomware because it uses heuristics that are pretty effective. We've done a lot of tests with live malware, and it works really well."
  • "Would be good to have a better understanding of what it is that you've got in quarantine."

What is our primary use case?

We use Comodo because it has containerization.

What is most valuable?

If you open up an application or a web browser, it runs within a container (sandbox). So if there's some malicious code, it' will be contained within the sandbox. Ransomware prevention and zero-day exploits were a driver for adopting Comodo. From our research lab results working with live ransomware, Comodo has been very effective in preventing infection. We've done a lot of tests with numerous types of live malware, and it works really well.

What needs improvement?

We do a lot of tests and we also work with some really malicious environments and our team would like to see better communication from Comodo on what it is doing. People that are new to the product can have a problem telling if the container is currently active or not (we have a lot of post graduate interns and the majority have all given us feedback on this issue). Uncertainty on the status of the container and quarantine process can unsettle people.

Comodo is pretty quiet and I would like to get more reports from what's happening and then get status reports. For end-users, being quiet is good but for IT security teams we need more information when testing suspect software and attachments. Having an option to allow more information would be good. The logs and reports do not have the level of detail that we would like, so improvements in this area would be good. We have other products and services that help with malware identification - if Comodo picked this up, we could eliminate some other products and save money. Some competing products outperform Comodo in this area. Sometimes we've had some of the newer people looking at it and they're not used to it, and they're not sure whether it's actually running or not, and what it's doing (there are controls that people need to know how to use). From an end user standpoint, quiet operation is good, but for a systems admin or a security person who's trying to examine something, they may want to see more feedback. So that's some of the commentary that we've gotten back internally. The guys that are used to it don't have this issue, but the people that are new to it have given this feedback to us.

The other thing is the quarantine. It would be good to have a better understanding of what it is that you've got in the quarantine, especially on the false negatives. Because sometimes it picks up something that is an okay file, but you're not really given a good explanation about why it was quarantined.

For how long have I used the solution?

We added the solution to our operations about a year ago.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It's very stable. We have many different systems and different versions. Because we do testing and research, and we haven't had any problems across any of them.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Scaling is no problem.

How are customer service and technical support?

We very rarely have to use technical support, but when we've had to call them it's not been an issue. It's pretty quick.

How was the initial setup?

The setup was straightforward. None of the products we've had with an antivirus had ever taken more than a day and Comodo was no different.

What about the implementation team?

Our in-house team did the implementation.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

We do licensing by country. Here in Sweden, we've got 40 licenses.

What other advice do I have?

We have three companies here in our group and all three companies are using it. We have a professional business services firm that provides law, accounting, financial, and payromm services; a company that does specialized engineering and IT consulting; and we have a global company that handles enterprise ICT architecture, management, and security. All three of these companies are using the product in Sweden. They also use them in North America and Europe.

We also use a Comodo for pushing out updates/patches and to keep asset inventories of our systems and software. We're also using it for network monitoring. I'd say we use it in a more active role with Symantec because Symantec does not provide the same types of services that Comodo does regarding  network asset management.

I think it's a good product and it supplements and works well with Symantec - using both products together provides two layers of protection. You do have to manage the antiviral capability because they can have conflicts with each other (we have not had any lock-up issues as we do with other product combinations but you can get false alerts). Comodo doesn't seem to have a problem running within the Symantec environment or vice versa. We haven't really run into any issues running both of them together. In fact, it's one of the reasons why we liked this combination. We have experimented with other combinations but found the Comodo-Symantec combination most stable.

I would give it a 9 out of 10. I don't think anything's perfect, so it'd be really hard for me to give a ten - especially given the areas of improvement that I mentioned above. I give weight to the cost - Comodo licenses are a good value for what you get. It gives you a really good balanced portfolio to work with for your machines, not just on the malware protection and the firewall protection, but the virtual container, the ability to manage endpoints, the ability to manage patches. In our case, Comodo replaces several products that we used to use.

Flexible, easy-to-use, and scales well
Pros and Cons
  • "It's a very easy-to-use product."
  • "The licensing fees are high. The company should work to try to lower them for the customer."

What is our primary use case?

The solution primarily gives you an analysis on how to be able to manage the threats that are coming in. It protects against malware and also phishing. We also use the product for reporting purposes.

What is most valuable?

The solution is quite flexible.

It's a very easy-to-use product.

The solution is quite stable so far.

We've found that the product scales well.

The initial setup is very straightforward.

What needs improvement?

There are a few technical items the solution could improve upon.

The licensing fees are high. The company should work to try to lower them for the customer.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've used the solution for two years at this point. It's been a while.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution has been stable so far. It doesn't crash or freeze. There are no bugs or glitches. The performance has been reliable. It's good.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The solution scales quite well. If a company needs to expand it, it can do so. It's not an issue.

We have about ten or so users on the solution right now.

We do plan to increase usage. Our plan is to onboard more clients that will use the system.

How are customer service and technical support?

We have no prior experience with technical support. I can't speak to how helpful or responsive they are. I've never dealt with them myself.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We did not previously use a different product before implementing this solution.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is not complex at all. It's very straightforward.

I cannot recall the exact amount of time it took to deploy the product into our organization. However, I do recall it being very easy.

We had two engineers and two support staff that managed the installation.

What about the implementation team?

We handled the implementation in-house. We had a team that did it. We didn't need any outside consultants or integrators.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

We need to pay a licensing fee, and it is a bit expensive. It would be nice if it was lower.

We pay on a yearly basis.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We did look at other reviews before choosing Comodo. However, I can't speak to the other product reviews we looked at.

What other advice do I have?

We are a customer and an end-user of the solution. We don't have a business relationship with Comodo.

We are using the latest version of the solution within our organization.

I would recommend the solution to other companies. We've been very satisfied with it overall.

I would give it a rating of seven out of ten. If they cleaned up a few technical issues and provided some better pricing, I would likely rate it higher.

An easy-to-deploy solution that does its job and blocks every attack attempt
Pros and Cons
  • "It really protects and does its job. It totally blocked every attack attempt, and no attack attempt was successful."
  • "They need to enhance the performance of the agents. Currently, the performance is going low when the agent starts a full scan. The agent is consuming a lot of resources while scanning. When there are a lot of documents to check, it slows down the endpoint. This is the only thing that worries me about Comodo, but this issue is also there in other products. It is missing DLP, and I know that they are working on adding some data loss prevention capabilities. They have added some capabilities, but these capabilities are not yet mature. I hope they will enhance these capabilities because it is important to prevent the data from going out from inside. We are protected from the outside, but we also have to be protected from the inside out."

What is our primary use case?

We are using this solution to protect our internal network from outside attacks. We are also using the Dragon platform with Comodo.

How has it helped my organization?

We saw a couple of attempts in the past, especially in the last two years, and because all of our endpoints were protected with Comodo, we didn't get any harm.

What is most valuable?

It really protects and does its job. It totally blocked every attack attempt, and no attack attempt was successful.

What needs improvement?

They need to enhance the performance of the agents.

We are protected from the outside, but we also have to be protected from the inside out.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using this solution for two years.

How are customer service and technical support?

I am happy with their support. We had some configuration issues in past, and their support was quick and helpful. I would rate them a nine out of ten.

How was the initial setup?

It was straightforward. I just registered and enrolled some devices. After that, I was able to start testing it. We had around 150 endpoints. It took one and a half days to fully start using Comodo and build all the endpoints.

What about the implementation team?

I personally deployed most of the endpoints because it supports offline deployment. We also use Active Directory, so we were able to deploy over Active Directory.

What other advice do I have?

I would recommend this solution to others. They should try this solution. Our license is ending soon, and we are in process of renewal. I am happy with this solution.

It is overall a complex platform because it provides a lot of functionality, so this much complexity is expected. However, its deployment and configurations have been simple for me. Any issues that I had were because I misconfigured the product. I contacted their support, and we had some sessions. I got a lot of help from the support team.

I would rate Comodo Advanced Endpoint Protection a nine out of ten.

Integrates well with other products but technical support is slow to reply
Pros and Cons
  • "The most valuable feature is the management of end-user machines."
  • "Their support is not very good because they are very late to reply."

What is our primary use case?

We are a solution provider and this is one of the security products that we implement for our clients. It is used for endpoint protection and device management.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable feature is the management of end-user machines.

This product gives you more features than some competing products. These include integration with your service desk, CRM, and other applications. Being able to integrate and enable these for your customer is helpful.

What needs improvement?

Their support is not very good because they are very late to reply.

They have to continue to work on the endpoint device management so that customers can manage their devices properly.

They don't have a reseller portal for vendors or for MSPs. This means that for each customer, you have to enable a separate portal we would like to manage all of our customers from a single portal.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been working with Comodo Advanced Endpoint Protection for the past year.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

In terms of stability, it is average.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

This product is scalable.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The price of this product should be lower.

What other advice do I have?

In summary, this product is valuable but their support is not very good.

I would rate this solution a five out of ten.
