We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"It has great UI.""The features I found most valuable are the preparation features – the Join and the Transform.""For my daily analytics needs, the entire Alteryx Designer platform is beneficial.""It has an easy setup process.""I have been using Alteryx Designer only for data modeling and data structuring.""I like Alteryx Designer's drag-and-drop feature, where you drag a component, configure it and quickly run it.""It helps them to create customized workflows, transform data, perform calculations, and consolidate multiple data sources into a target database.""The product is very stable. The performance is reliable."

"It takes less than five minutes to set up and delivers results. It is much quicker than traditional ETL technologies.""Matillion ETL helps manage data movement, ingestion, and transformation through pipelines.""It is pretty user-friendly, even for people who aren't super technical.""It can scale to a great extent. It can handle the load that we are putting on it, which is about 5TBs.""It's been able to do everything we require.""It has good integrations with Amazon Redshift and other AWS services.""The new version with the Productivity Cloud is very simple. It's easy to use, navigate, and understand.""The most valuable feature of Matillion ETL is the ETL. The solution is open-source which provides advantages, such as good performance and high efficiency. Additionally, it supports three data types which eliminates predefining the data, and we can write script models in Python."

Cons
"Alteryx's data science and machine learning capabilities are where it loses out to DataIQ.""An improvement for Alteryx Designer would be faster bug fixes and updates.""We need more documentation.""The major concern in Alteryx Designer stems from the high costs attached to the product.""The product could offer more connectors and more databases with support for the in-database function.""Based on my experience, the tool could be improved by providing sample reports or pre-configured workflows tailored to specific industries, like finance. It needs to integrate an AI chatbot as well.""Alteryx needs to improve its web governance. The gallery you use to filter the data is something else that could use some work. For instance, if you have a report connected to a database and want to filter a specific user, you should be able to suggest a specific region or a particular year. I know that the Alteryx isn't designed for data governance, but that would be great to think about.""The conditional join feature should be improved."

More Alteryx Designer Cons →

"When using the SQL loader type there were not a lot of pre-processing features for the data. For example, if there is a table with twenty columns, but we only want to load ten columns. In that case, we can use a security script to select the specific columns needed. However, if we want to perform extensive pre-processing of the data, I faced some challenges with Matillion ETL. I did not encounter many challenges, but my overall experience is limited as I only have three years of experience.""I am looking forward to seeing the expansion of the source range for their data loader product.""To complete the pipeline, they might want to include some connectors which would put the data into different platforms. This would be helpful.""The improvement area could be possible if the tool provides better integration capabilities with other ecosystems, including governance tools or data cataloging tools, as it is currently an area where the solution is lacking.""Unlike Snowflake which automatically takes care of upgrading to the latest version and includes additional features, with Matillion ETL we need to do this ourselves.""One of the features that's in development is data privacy in the cloud, along with further SAP integration. For connectivity to SAP systems.""The current version is a bit more limited because it's on a virtual machine, and everything executes on that one virtual machine.""Our main challenge currently is that Matillion runs on an EC2 instance, limiting us to running only two processes simultaneously at the entry level."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "It is too expensive for our country. We are a small country, so it is too difficult to sell this solution. With Alteryx Designer, if you want to automate the data and run the flows, you have to pay more money. We were trying to automate the flows, and we found out that people have to pay 600 more for this feature, which makes it even more expensive. We are a partner for Tableau, and we are working with Tableau Prep, which is like a mini Alteryx. In Tableau Prep, you can drag and drop and make new connections with the different data sources. You can make all the connections. You can also publish a source. You don't have to pay more money with Tableau. You pay like $5 per user per month to access it."
  • "Alteryx is a little bit expensive compared to competing solutions."
  • "Alteryx Designer is an expensive solution."
  • "I rate Alteryx Designer a six out of ten for pricing."
  • "The licenses are expensive, making it difficult to consider acquiring additional licenses to the existing ones."
  • "Each license is something like $4,000."
  • "I rate the price of Alteryx Designer as a five on a scale of one to ten, where one is extremely expensive, and ten is a highly cheap product."
  • "I rate the price of Alteryx Designer a ten on a scale of one to ten, where one is low price and ten is high price."

  • "It is cost-effective. Based on our use case, it's efficient and cheap. It saves a lot of money and our upfront costs are less."
  • "The prices needs to be lower."
  • "It was very easy to purchase through the AWS Marketplace, but it was also expensive."
  • "Purchasing it through the AWS Marketplace is pretty convenient. There is a little bit of back and forth in terms of the licensing based on the machine size, but it seems to have worked out well. it is convenient to have it all as part of our AWS billing."
  • "It is not necessarily a cheap solution. However, it's reasonable priced, especially with the smaller machines that we run it on."
  • "The AWS pricing and licensing are a cost-effective solution for data integration needs."
