Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The tool is very mature, and its valuable features are monitoring and configuration management.""As the kind of enterprise that straddles the line between telco size and enterprise size, it scales for us, because we're not all the way at telco yet.""The quick notification of issues, quick alerting because timeliness is always valuable, it's very important for us.""It covers a lot of different types of hardware. It can do a lot and saves us time.""It is easy to navigate.""The most valuable feature is the event correlation mechanism.""The monitoring just comes to us: "Oh, there's something wrong with that machine." It tells us. There are some 50,000 machines or so, all doing different things. And if they go down we hear about it.""Discovery: Scheduled, on-demand, synchronized with eHealth."

"The solution is a high-performance platform that effectively handles three-layered issues like SA and network fiber cables.""The most valuable feature is the solution's single-pane-of-glass approach to consolidating all of the various metrics and interfaces that I would typically have to access via multiple screens in other products. The ease of use would probably be the single biggest selling point.""By using virtualization, we are saving on the cost of hardware.""Nutanix Prism is popular in the Indian market, particularly in enterprises where they need a DR type of environment, and where they look for less than finite RPO and RTO. If you have this environment on-premises, and if you can just rent out some portion to any of the service providers, then you can easily set up a DR environment to give you a finite list versus RPO and RTO.""Duplication and compression work for data in a hybrid solution.""In the six years we have been using Nutanix Prism, we have never had a problem with stability.""It can combine computing, storage and networks in a single location.""Nutanix Prism is very fast compared to VMware and whatever you need to do, you can do it quickly."

Cons
"I would like to see them eliminate the Java console. The user interface for this is a Java applet that runs on your desktop, and it is very problematic for us.""The solution could improve by allowing the ability to monitor the network shortly after installing the software and adding an auto-discovery function.""From a functionality perspective, the product is not doing what it should. Also, there are some concerns about the accessibility. I would appreciate additional out-of-the-box troubleshooting scripts, like templates for addressing various issues. Currently, when troubleshooting online, I need to create my scripts. It would be beneficial if the platform could provide pre-built scripts or templates to help automate certain troubleshooting tasks.""I think the management or configuration of devices needs some improvement.""DX Spectrum needs to incorporate faster support.""Its visualization can be improved. It doesn't have a very advanced GUI. It is very basic and simple, but it does work.""The upgrade process could be smoother. More of the steps around upgrading could be automated.""It doesn’t give you performance metrics: You need CA eHealth for this."

More DX Spectrum Cons →

"In our environment we are using it alongside VMware, so some integration with that would be nice. VMware has SHD (Skyline Health Diagnostics) which diagnoses health and gives suggestions. A plug-in for taking information out of it would be helpful.""The main area where an improvement could be made would be the pricing.""I would like to see the integration of native, one-click "open support ticket" functionality for errors generated by the system within Prism. Currently, we have to manually open a support ticket in a separate web browser and manually input the error information.""The solution does not support creating hybrid disc clusters.""The simplicity that Prism provides is something of a dual-edged sword. It can be almost too simple at times. When there is an issue and something is really wrong, it can make it a little more difficult to track it down because the Prism interface is very limited for drilling down into those highly technical or highly complicated errors.""The three clusters we have at our remote offices are just one-node clusters. If there were an easier way to upgrade items such as the BIOS, SATA drives, the BMC, et cetera, on those, that would be helpful.""Does not yet have micro application using a company's provider.""I think that the Nutanix Prism Pro the terms it uses, it's not very user-friendly."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "It is very pricey. With the current trend of enterprises moving towards cheaper and more modern looking solutions like ManageEngine, SevOne, ServicePilot, and Paesller."
  • "It’s a great tool, but an expensive one. Learn how to use it properly."
  • "The cost of some of these products are a little cost prohibitive, which is unfortunate. We have to find lower cost solutions for some of the things that we have to pull in. For the most part, CA has capabilities in pretty much everything that you would need. You just have to figure out where are you going to spend the most money for what you have to actually get done. You can do all these things but, which ones do you have to do? And that's hard to choose sometimes because you want to do them all."
  • "In general, the license cost will be about 30% of the total TCO for this tool (hardware/support team, OS costs, and OS management)."
  • "The product, support, and maintenance are all expensive, which is another reason that we are switching to another solution."
  • "The price is very high."
  • "The price of the solution is reasonable."
  • "Currently, a perpetual license but some services are moving to a subscription"

  • "A lot of my customers complain about the price of renewals, so I think that this can be improved."
  • "Compared to VMware, the price of this solution is great."
  • "Nutanix Prism is priced better than some of the competing solutions."
  • "This product is cheaper than using VMware."
  • "The license we bought for Nutanix Prism is perpetual, so once you have it, you can keep on using it. It's a three-year license that's paid one time. The license we have covers the three-node cluster."
  • "The license for Prism is costlier than other VMs."
  • "We have spent a lot of money on the Nutanix solution with Prism. Yet, for this amount of money we could be buying high-end storage with a lot of IOPS and bandwidth, even more than with Nutanix."
  • "Nutanix have bundles for pricing. On a single bundle, we get everything including vSAN or VMware and there are no additional costs. It is just a single license that is needed."

It has all the capabilities that you're looking for when it comes to monitoring. Spectrum is great for root cause analysis. It has excellent correlation event management. Spectrum's stability and scalability are also amazing. If you have a CA Service Desk, then it can be integrated so that if you have open tickets they can be closed automatically.”

Itarchit, an IT Architect at a comms service provider, notes, “The most valuable feature is the event correlation mechanism. I also like the product's multi-customer approach.” He adds, “We haven't seen a better product. Overall, I am happy with this solution.
